When you own a 3D printer, you're always looking for excuses to use it...

You actually own one? That is too cool, I would love to get one myself!
It's an interesting, but often frustrating toy. It's nothing like plug and play or just design and print. I have more molten blobs than useful things. It's in pieces getting some upgrades right now.
Do they all come with the three little UFO's?
Oh, and the tubes are useful and work well for a corona or smaller. I just used someone else's design file for it. The cutter takes a utility blade, and cuts, but not anywhere as cleanly as a good cutter. I've been using it as a cut-off tool if I need to stop smoking but want to save the cigar. It's not precise enough for regular cutting, and besides I only use a V cutter.

Well? You haven't answered the question yet!
Now really...is this just a big toy or do you have a real purpose for it other than just to have?
I was told today that some enlightened wealthy person has decided that my school needed one of these things. I raised my hand and asked why my tiny little high school would ever need it, there has to be better ways to use the money. I was told that they are donating the machine and money for training, even if noone uses it and it just sits on a shelf in the closet. Maybe the Art teacher could use it. If I had known that I could print humidors with it I would have been much more supportive. I hope they donate lots of materials for me to "test out" the machine.
Go to http://www.thingiverse.com and get yourself some print files. If it's a higher-end model it will be quite a bit easier. And get in on the training!
Any idea what model or type?
No but I think they were intent on moving things along fairly quickly.
wow ive been looking at 3D printing and its really cool. I wish i had that when i was in school for architecture, all the building modeling wouldve been so much simpler.
Very impressive, I would have so much fun with one off these.
There is a group trying to perfect a printable lower for the M-4 assult rifle. The last I read the tests fired but they crackes after a few rounds.

The latest version of the printed AR lower lasted 650 rounds so they're getting better.
Wow, I did not know that.
A friend of mine is excited about this printable lower.
I reminded him, you still need to buy all the internal parts to make it go boom.
Yeah, I've been watching the progress on gun printing. As a rabid libertarian I think it's critical for us to get back rights and abilities like creating our own firearms outside of the government-controlled system.
Watch for legislation to start hitting as soon as they figure out that 3D printing empowers the people, however.
3D printing....mind blown, way cool to be able to have this technology. :rocker:
