Title: Your worst cigar review
Post by: bmac7754 on 06/02/2013 09:36 PM

Thought I would have a little fun with this one.  Everyone talks about their awesome cigars, so I thought lets hear about your worst. For this take a look at your own cigar reviews, and tell us your lowest rated one.

For me it's the Ron Mexico Churchill coming in with 1 star.

One of the not so great cigars out there:

Boardwalk Churchill Review

So far, this is the worst cigar I have smoked. Harsh, acrid, sour, bitter, and depressing...just like my ex, it can't get any worse! If there is anyone out there who takes a shine to these please PM me...they're yours. 1.5 stars.

Now here is a cigar that I could have sworn could never improve...and I really can't say that it has, but something is different. At over 600 days later I actually dared to try another. Low and behold it was almost palatable, well rolled, dead on burn, tight solid ash, and barely smokable. There is a bit of a weird tang to it, but not so offensive. Hmmm...I wonder is the ex has mellowed as well? I'll pass on that curiosity and give this stick 2 stars until I smoke a couple more and see where it lands. Not happening.

El Mejor Emerald. Sticks out in my mind as one of the worst cigars I've ever had. I never did a review on it but I sure remember pitching it.

Edit:  If I did a review I might have given it 1 star but then again, that wouldn't have been fair to the star. :barf:

This is easy, as I just had a cigar take the top spot in my worst cigar ever, and I reviewed it for y'all. David's post on funny reviews inspired to not let this one slip through the cracks...

Cigar Reviews
Leon Jimenes Imperiales Corojo Maduro Short Robusto   5/30/2013 8:12:35 AM
Rating:    1 Star...and that is generous!

This is a great looking cigar...and a horrible tasting one! I barely got to the half point when I had to chunk this hunk of shyte. It tasted exactly like licking a 70's black light poster that has mold on the felt, toss in a hint of dirty, used unflavored edible underwear, and finishes with a heavy dose of crap on the palate. If sucking on a great looking, perfectly formed piece of dog shyte fits your flavor profile, then this thing is a winner. This dude Leon, whose name is on the band, would be best served to put some azzholes name on it...call it the Sandusky Corojo Juvenile Maduro Butthole Robusto.

I actually smoked a Cuban Rounds cigar tonight that a friend gave me to try. It was the worst thing I have ever smoked... ever.

Burned like crap, tasted like bigfoot's dick smells, fell apart on both ends, tarred up so much that I had to cut it 3 times just to smoke the half of it that I did.

Funny thing about it was that the band was a knockoff of a Cohiba band, yellow, white, black stripes with the little white dots.

I too reviewed a Cuban Rounds Churchill Claro and it earned 1 star:

This cigar has a band that is supposed to look like a Cohiba. That's  about all it has going for it. The flavors were mild with cedar a light  coffee and maybe a hint of mold? Good for keeping the bugs away maybe!

Prida Robusto.  I picked up a bundle from CVMcigars.com back in March '09 for $15 as part of that newbie quest of a great cigar at a really cheap price.  Epic fail!

"Stay away...stay very far away.  After a couple of months in my humidor, these still taste like bitter freshly mowed grass.  The only reason they are still in my humidor is because they hold humidity.  The construction is weak, and the filler is about the consistency of that of cigarettes.  I'd rather smoke a Philly Blunt!"

I saw Brian's (nirab) review when he posted it and spewed coffee all over the place as I was laughing so hard!

I smoked a turd rocket in the local B&M a couple of months ago although i cant remember what it was (I'd know the wrapper if saw it though - cheap looking embossed foil). The owner lit one up as well and, after a couple of puffs, opened his cash drawer and handed my money back.

I've had a few nasties, for sure...Victor Sinclairs of course (I actually puked after that one), I had a Padilla once that tasted like soap and a Joya Del Jefe which was probably the second worse cigar I've ever had.  But the worst, by far was a Montecristo that this guy gave me and told me was a Cuban.  He was a nice guy and knew I was into cigars, but the minute he handed it to me I knew it wasn't a CC.  For starters the band looked photocopied, the wrapper was grey, but he and I both lit up anyway.  I've had bad cigars before, what's the worst that could happen?  Well, you know that smell when something has been pissed on and it's like a few days later?  That's what this tasted like.  Pissed on cardboard.  He looked so pleased though about his Cubans that I just had to keep smoking and hold on. I think I made it halfway before I made up an excuse to chuck it, but in every way, it was the worst cigar I've ever had.

Being cheap I've had lots of dog rockets, hey, you get what you pay for and sometimes you find a diamond in the rough, mostly not. However the worst cigar had to be the Flor de Oliva Gold Churchill. It was well constructed and really really pretty but the draw was so loose it was hard to tell there was a cigar attached to that cap, and what little smoke there was (anemic at best) was completely flavorless. It was like being completely ignored by a cigar. It was a waste of butane to light.

ACID - Anything with a maduro capa
Boardwalk
Cuba Libre
Henri Wintermans - I think that these are just cigarettes with brown paper trying to pretend that they are cigarillos
Palomino Cigars - Any (they all taste metallic)
SP Extra Fuerte

I'll second those worst cigar votes with El Mejor Emerald. I remember CI was trying to pass them off as "Premium" cigars a few years ago, so I bought a 5 pack to try. Nice try, chumps. What a horsecrap smoke those are!!!! I still have a few left in my "Moocher" tupperdor, but I haven't had the heart to spring one on anyone. I haven't met anyone I've disliked that much yet.

Worst cigars?

Villiger Original-Krumme (Culebra)

Anything by El Artista (worse than Victor Sinclair)

Fake Cuban Cohiba Edicion Limitada

Fonseca Vintage Churchill

CAO Gold Churchill

Acid One

Drew Estate Egg

Macanudo Maduro

Camacho Havana Monarca

Romeo y Julieta (Cuban) Coronitas En Cedro

Pirata Torpedo (one star) ---   Not good.  The cigar was nearly plugged, which was okay becuause the  flavor was bad, in spite of over six months' rest laying in the cedar  amongst superior cigars.  The cigar held together well and burned fairly  evenly, but there was a cheap, grassy taste to the tobacco.  Less than  2" in to this dog rocket and I decided to toss it--had the draw not been  so tight I may have suffered through more of it, but did not by any  measure enjoy the experience.

Les mentioned the RyJ Cononitos en Cedro.  I have learned that with these, if they are under 3-4 years old, they are completely unsmokable.  Something magical happens around teh 5 year mark and they become pretty good, not great, but decent.  Unfortunately, that means that you have to keep these little mold magnets around taking up space in your humidor for half a decade (and they do attract mold under the cedar).

Let me say I love nub cigars but the habano I just had tasted like a ashtray from get go.  I dont think I could even bring myself to try another habano specifically at that price to see if it was a fluke.  It went in the water bucket the rest of the ends go in so at least once the water is anicetea color it will make decent for getting rid of ants in the yard and add a little dish soap and a dry crushed ghost pepper will make a decent insect killer in the garden.

My standout worst was a Tatuaje torpedo.  Smelled and tasted like a plastic bag that had been worn on someone's foot.  Construction was terrible too.  The other four in the 5-pack were delicious.  Also, got some R Patel lonsdales a few years ago that were unendurable.

I agree that Gurkhas are generally overrated.  I've had half a dozen in the past decade, and every one had good points, but they all had disappointing aspects that spoiled it.  Too many great cigars out there for the same money.

Back in July 2010 I reviewed a K. Hansotia Park Avenue Series 44 Toro, 2 stars. As is says in the review, I was working while I was smoking it, sat it down to check on something and forgot about it. The cherry died.

The next part I removed from the original review as some were upset by my decision. As an experiment I put it in a ziplock bag and relight it two weeks later, it didn't get any worse. My point was a crappy cigar was no worse after sitting for two weeks and then relight. I found this funny, some did not.

Isla del Sol Toro - I liken that experience to smoking a pixie stick. Made the mistake of buying a second last year, tossed it off the porch within the first inch!

Many of the "cigars" mentioned in this thread are bargain bundle /house sticks from CI, Famous, Thompson, etc. What a surprise that dirt cheap sticks would taste like dirt. When most of us dove head first into this hobby, we filled our $30 humidors with $25/bundle cigars from the big online houses. Now I have a Moocher Tupperdor filled with these caca stix!!

As a newbie I haven't smoked as much cigars as most of you guys in here have but I think i've smoked enough to know that Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Corona Grande is the worse for me so far. Was just dry and harsh and the burn was uneven, I'll leave the rest in the humi see if they get better with age....fingers crossed.

Hi, One of my favorite infused cigars is the Drew Estates Tabak. I enjoy the coffee flavor of the cigar, but my wife doesn't like the smell of the smoke. She often sits w/ me on our porch while I smoke, but there a few cigars that she really doesn't like to smell off and this one seems to be the worst for her.
