This is a thread generated automatically by the Cigar Pass system to discuss the Cigar Pass named 'Mystery Item Contest Pass'.

Mystery Item Contest Pass This pass is an idea that I had recently, a little different than a standard one. I hope it'll be something fun for those who decide to join in. Let me know what you think of the idea in the forum thread -- if it turns out to be brutally unpopular, we can always change it around, or just make it a regular pass. On the other hand, if it's a successful idea then this may be the first of several. :-)
Here's how it works:
- I will send the box out to the first person with a selection of cigars and an extra "item".
- The recipient will do their takes and puts just like a standard pass, and they will take a photo with "the item".
- The participant will email the photo to me, but will not post it to the website, nor will they mention to anyone else what "the item" is.
- The participant will then pack up the box and ship it to the next person.
After all of the participants have done this, I'll have a collection of photos, one from each pass participant (except me). I'll create a new thread in the forum, post the photos, and everyone on the site can then vote for the best/funniest of the bunch.
The winner will get an extra prize sent their way, probably a fiver or something along those lines.
==== Notes ==== Pass:
- This pass will be open to anyone of Regular status or higher.
- Standard pass etiquette applies (see here (//../boxx/knowledgebase.asp?iid=37&Cat=7))
- The starting lineup will be a wide range of cigars, from the lower end of the price spectrum to the higher end. Hopefully this will allow everyone to feel like they can participate.
- As with any pass, replace with something of equal or greater value. Do not replace a $20 cigar with two $10 cigars, etc. If you take a limited release or rare item, replace it with another one. ISOM for ISOM, etc.
- Use box pricing if available to determine value. (Cigars.com (http://www.jrcigars.com), Cigars International (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/), or Famous Smoke Shop (http://www.famous-smoke.com/))
- Don't forget to pack "the item" back in the box before you ship it out to the next person!
- Please don't hold onto the package too long while you decide on how to do your photo.
Photos/Contest:
- You don't have to be in the photo if you don't want to be, but "the item" must make an appearance.
- Email your submission for the contest to me at jeffk42@gmail.com
- You do not need to resize the photo before sending it to me, I will do that once I have them so they're all about the same size for voting.
- Once the pass is complete, I will create a voting thread, and everyone on CG will be able to vote for their favorite photo.
- The funniest/best photo will win the prize, so be imaginative!
- Please take care not to damage, destroy, or deface "the item" or set it on fire.
- Remember not to mention what "the item" is or show any photos of it until after the pass is complete. That way no one gets a sneak peek that will give them an unfair advantage. Plus, it adds to the mystery. :-) You can certainly mention it in the forum thread, just don't give out any clues that might help someone to guess what it is!

Okay here's where we are at:
- I have procured internal and external transport vessels.
- I've updated the initial cigar list (http://www.cigargeeks.com/index.php?action=cigpass;area=cigs;boxpass_id=175) with my final selection. (Hopefully everyone has something they can work with, a few on the low end, a few on the high end, and most somewhere in the middle)
- "The Item" is ready to go, looking forward to some craziness.
Now we're just waiting to see if anyone else wants to join up, I'll set the order once we have a final group. :-)

Just a quick tip from an old vet. :biggrin: When you receive a pass, do an inventory before any takes/puts. That way, if the person if front of you accidentally left out a smoke, you find the error sooner rather than later. It happens, but it is an easy fix.

I'm a little disgusted with myself - I had the thing and should have checked to see his last logon before sending. I do agree that if your circumstances prevent you from being active then don't ask to be in a pass.
We had the same thing happen to Jackal's 'Where Did You Find That" pass this past week, but because of this experience I was able to redirect instead of sending to a Geek that had not logged on for several weeks. Jeff has been patient with this - I'd be p**sed if this were my collection of cigars.

This is such a tough deal. He has a lot of good feedback on the site. But don't you have to notate somehow this could be a problem in future passes so noone else gets hung with these. I mean I know there was Boveda and such in there, but months in a tupperdor, we don't know where they are stored, these sticks could have taken a toll, and Jeff is sitting there with no recourse.

You guys really are awesome. I don't want to rush into anything yet, but I do appreciate your generous offers. Maybe we can use most of them as a "group seed" for Mystery Item Pass #2 (although I've only had one ISOM in my life so to be honest that one may not make it back into a pass ;-) ) and you guys will get the first option to join in if you like.
Brad (cavenbk), I filed a request with USPS to find your package. I'm supposed to call them back tomorrow morning. For some reason of the two packages I mailed out that day, the other one got a tracking number but yours didn't. Hopefully it'll show up at your house but since it was supposed to arrive 5 days ago I'm not holding my breath. We'll see if USPS can figure it out.

Geeks, I plan to send cigars out to Jeff on Monday if ratboy hasn't posted up by then. I think he's waited long enough for his first time moderating a pass.
I'd also recommend when you're participating in a pass that you take a look at the member you are transitioning to and if there's been sporadic activity give the moderator a heads up in case he/she wants to reroute. :cigarman:

I have had a handful of the Uzi's and enjoy them. The Padron 1926 is a cigar I have been wanting to try and have never brought myself to buying one. The rest are all new to me, and I am excited to try them all out!
Along with the cigars Jeff threw in a coupe of tins of H. Clay mints to get rid of the "cigar breath".

Everyone, keep an eye out for MICP#2, probably happening in the next couple of weeks, based heavily on the generous donations I received. True that. I remember this one and the one Jeff Ward had that disappeared. Collections were taking up and cigars were replaced with additional ones as well.
We certainly tried to make Jeff whole on this one, but one would hope someone who basically stole at least $150-200 worth of cigars could come forward and make things right. I just don't undertand how after all the good will and generosity that happens on this site, someone would take advantage of a fellow BOTL like this and not even have the stones to say "screw it, Im keeping them" and just disappear.

In this particular case, I don't think it was a "screw it, I'm keeping them" situation. I think it was a "I'm too busy and completely forgot about it" until it was too late case. Either way, it is stealing and he should own up to it.
Yeah the generosity of the other members was incredible when this pass was lost.
But it does seem interesting to me that he's at least occasionally active on FB, but has been conspicuously absent from this site for almost a year. Not a single login since Nov. 2013. That makes me think he's intentionally avoiding us.
Makes you wonder if he has his profile set to hide when online and is one of the "invisible users" you see on. Maybe he has seen the comments in the past and is afraid to speak up. Then again, he is probably enjoying these cigars laughing at everybody.
