I'm sure I'm not the only geek here that enjoys a bit of music with his smoke. I thought I'd start this thread so people can describe what they are listening to as they enjoy their sticks.
For me tonight it was an old standby with some live Genesis, mostly focused on the older material. We had The Musical Box, Firth of Fifth, Cinema Show, Supper's Ready, Dance on a Volcano / Los Endos, In The Cage / Afterglow and It / Watcher of the Skies. You might be saying, "wow, must have been a short cigar for only 10 songs, but those 10 beauties provided me with close to 2 hours of smoke absorption. Loved every minute of it.
What about you guys?

Queen and Steely Dan!! Two great bands!!
Sure, sports radio counts, but I find for me that I find myself getting annoyed more than relaxed when I listen to it :uzi:
I have a Progressive Rock station on Pandora that I have pretty finely tuned now that gives me a great mix. Genesis, Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, Peter Gabriel, Yes, King Crimson, Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater, TransAtlantic, Marillion, etc...

I have a very eclectic mix of music stored on my computer which is connected to my stereo and plays on two pair of outdoor Bose speakers when I choose to listen and smoke outside. Mostly rock from the 70's onward, I also have a large assortment of jazz, reggae, alternative, New Wave, and a little country music. I prefer instrumental when smoking though......otherwise, I have to sing along.

Like a lot of you, I have a very broad range of music I listen to: classic rock, southern rock, country, hip-hop, modern pop (usually the stuff with good instrumentals), grunge, etc. Strangely enough, I don't usually listen to a lot of music when I'm smoking - I tend to like it quiet.

Well...I have a hard time admitting this in the presence of so many younger members...but I am a dedicated fan of hard-core classical music. Always have been and always will be. However, I also have a fondness for Devo, B-52, and ABBA...venues which might qualify as classical music in the eyes of some. Drives my MoTown-loving and rock-loving wife nuts because she can't understand why I love listening to all the old dead guy music and still like the weird stuff like Devo. Can't explain it but it's there.
Anyway, if it rocks...it rocks...no matter which century it comes from!
Nothing can quite match the majesty of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Hayden, and all their brethren in scope and richness of sound! And nothing for me is more relaxing than sitting up in the shop listening to their works while smoking a good cigar and reading.
Devo is awesome live if you ever get the chance to see them!.One of my favorite black metal bands "Ghost" did a cover of ABBA's "I'm a marionette".See Ken,we have a lot in common besides cigars.

Currently listening to Soundgarden "A-Sides" a greatest Hits compilation from '97. Such an awesome band that got lumped into the whole Grunge scene of the early '90s but to me was just an awesome Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band (depending on the album).
Been mostly country lately, but I tend to go in phases. I still pull out the old hard rock like the Scorpions, ACDC

This last week I've been listening to the last works of Schubert, who wrote them while gravely ill with the syphilis that killed him at 31. I didn't expect them to be so good, especially his last piano sonata. When I latch onto music I love, be it classical, rock (ie Radiohead), or classic jazz (1915-1945), I listen to it over and over, sometimes 100 times, until I get it out of my system for a good long while. Whatever your musical taste, Youtube is a godsend. I used to spend a fortune on CDs. Not anymore. It seems everything ever recorded is there. I hate it though when it says copyright laws in my country don't allow me to listen to something everyone else can hear.

Most recently the Pearl Jam show in Philly on Halloween 2009 my brother took me to for my bday. They closed the Spectrum- played for 4 1/2 hrs! Some lady gave us her front row seats (friends with the band) and as a result I have Ed's tambourine in my cave on the wall!
I'll prob listen to more of it tonight...smoking with my best man!

The Slacker Radio station of the morning in our office today is Prince: DNA
Station Description: One of the most eclectic and accomplished musicians of the pop era, Prince Rogers Nelson is a genius, an icon, and a mystery. From the sexed up disco-funk of "I Wanna Be Your Lover" to the rock intensity of "Let's Go Crazy" to his later sorties into jazz and R&B, there's seemingly nothing Prince can't do, even if sometimes his experiments leave audiences shaking their heads and the Purple One himself in conflict with his own music. Prince turns 56 years old this week, and in celebration of his remarkable career, we've created a station that features Prince's discography, inspirations from George Clinton to Sly & the Family Stone, contemporaries like Shelia E and The Time, and artists he's inspired like Chromeo and The-Dream. This is Prince: DNA.

QuoteCfickter - 8/12/2014 7:46 AM Does anyone watch "Live from Darryl's House"? Awesome show. Darryl Hall (Hall and Oates fame) invites various musicians and singers into his private studio at his home for what seems to be a session of doing that person's and some of Darryl's music.
While the show isn't quite the same since T-Bone died, I do watch it from time to time and LOVE some of the collaborations. Which show or tracks are your favorites?
I watch this show, but it's all old stuff now....he has a new show called "Daryl's Restoration Hall" or some likeness....I really liked the stuff with Todd Rundgren though

Quotelubrix - 9/17/2014 12:16 PM Hank Williams
Yesterday was the birthday of Hank Williams (http://hankwilliams.com/), born in Mount Olive, Alabama (1923). He was a radio star and a successful recording artist, but he kept playing roadhouses — big smoky places where people came to drink beer and dance. He died in Oak Hill, West Virginia, on his way to a New Year's concert in Canton, Ohio. A blizzard had grounded all the airplanes in Nashville, and so he paid an 18-year-old kid to drive him in his new baby-blue Cadillac all the way to the venue.
When the driver stopped at a gas station and the singer was found dead in the backseat. He was only 29 years old.

Schubert's Last Three Piano Sonatas over and over and over again for at least a month driving everyone else crazy. I used to think most people weren't into classical music because they weren't exposed to it enough. I now know that can't be true. Some people will never get it, just like I'll never get many other types of music, like any post-1950 Modern Jazz. Yet I love 1915-1945 Jazz.
Schubert wrote them in his last few months while dying of syphilis at 31. Beethoven had died the year before at 56. Both wrote their most profound music on or near their deathbeds. Nowadays people don't die naturally like they did back then. Maybe that's why you don't see genius erupting near death that way. Or maybe I've missed examples of it.
But I digress....
