I want to thank all of you who upload photos to the database. I also want to give all of you some tips to help you to submit photos that will get approved and stay around for a while.
First off: Please check the ruler on your template vs a ruler/ tape measure. The second most common reason for me to decline photos is that they are being submitted on a template with a bad ruler. This generally happens when "fit to page" was selected as an option in the print preferences.
Second: The way that the site is set up, I cannot edit your photos, and still give you credit. This includes rotation. If a photo is sent to me upsides-down, I will decline it. If it is sent sideways then it will be first in queue for the chopping block (see point 3).
Third: There is only enough space for 5 photos (approved/ pending) to be in the system at any given time. This, I only allow 4 photos to be approved at any given time. The 5th slot I keep open so that new submissions can still be made. When we have 5 pics for a particular cigar, I choose the worst pic and delete it. Worst pic is usually based on lighting and clarity of image, but sideways photos are on the top of my list, and will be nuked even before a blurry pic is.
Thanks for reading this far.
Another piece of friendly advice from the paws of the Jackal.
Hey man, I try but, sometimes I forget to save them again or rename them after rotating and they seem to revert back when posted to the site..... I shall attempt to be more vigilant although, I see you accepted the Home Depot yardstick required to measure the DE Liga Privada Unico Serie A!

mmmm DE Liga Privada Unico Serie A!
But I really love those sideways pics :-( It's the view I get while smoking :smoker2:
Thanks for all the effort you put into the DB brother!
Could be a stupid question...Do all of the pics require a ruler? Can we put up just nice shots of the cigar that show off its wrapper?
They should be submitted on the approved format ruler available when you go to the review and submission page. Print that out and take pic's of youre submission's on that paper. It even has the CG logo at the top. If you just have a cool pic of a cigar then post it under today's smoke.

It is our way of proving that the pics didn't come from another site. We don't want any trouble with image copyright infringement.

Do I get any notice if my submission is declined? I have uploaded eight, one is posted, the rest says that I already uploaded an image.

Sometimes you will get an email, but I have had a few that seem to have pended indefinitely as well. I just assume my photo quality wasn't up to snuff.
If they are declined due to being the wrong cigar or other irregularity, you will get a message. There is a limit to 5 images for a single cigar, so if there are 4 images already up, one will get deleted to make room for a new one (so that there is always space for a new submission). If your new submission is of lower quality than the 4 already up, or if you had one of the 4 that gets deleted, there will be no message (however, it will allow you to submit a new image).
Photos can take up to 5 days to get approved. I am the only approver. I try to get them vetted within a day of submission, however life, the number of photos in queue and number of database submissions can affect the speed at which I get these taken care of. Database submissions have priority, and they do take longer to approve. Also, the submissions to both the cigar database and photos come to me in alphabetical order, so I do not know which submissions are newer, and this can lead to newer submissions being addressed before older ones.
To give an example of the current database load, there are 13 cigars needing approval in the database and 11 photos needing approval. I will try and get as many taken care of today as I can.
Also, if a photo submission is for a cigar where there is currently limited information in the database, I will usually launch an investigation to fill out the proper info for that line, which can take time.

I couldn't find much about that Oneoff. I was glad it was already in the DB.
Oh, one more thing. Is pictures with the cellophane wrapper on just as good?
Thank you, Jackal, for all your hard work with these. Vetting can be a time consuming process.

Indeed
Thanks for the reminder. I need to get around to doing this. Easy points too!

The Oneoff was a perfect example. Most of the entries for the various Oneoff lines were incomplete, so I took the time to fill in all of the blanks. Unfortunately, that meant that the photo took over a week to get approved.

I did spend some time looking for info. I discovered some in an older issue of Cigar Aficionado. I'll be sure to put in a review when I get around to smoking it. They are near impossible to find anymore since they have been discontinued for several years.

They have been closing out Oneoffs at Cuban Crafters for a while now. From what I can remember, it was a good cigar. Not great, but good.
