Good call Jared.  I thought about CAO, there are some I really like, especially when I started.  I will add them both.

I'm in so long as I can be near the front end of this (first few spots).  Schedule is going to be pretty busy in a month, and I wouldn't want to hold it up.  If that's an issue, no hurt feelings if I sit it out and just watch.

Looks great, Michael!

You got me thinking about some of the cigars I enjoyed when I first started smoking back in the 90's...
Partagas 150 Anniversary
Partagas #10
Ashton Maduro
etc

I recruited some help from a friend at work just to make sure I had enough qualified puts.  He bought me in some today.  "How much age?" I asked.  He replied "5 or 6 years, I guess."  Looking at the cellophane, I'd say he's right.

In the tizzy to get this out yesterday, I forgot to put any extra bags.  There is plenty of room in the tupperware if needed, but I should have put some extra Boveda and bags.  If anyone has to add a bag or refresh Boveda, let me know, I'll make it up to you.  :)

Post by: Cfickter on 04/29/2014 04:13 PM

OK puts and takes are in, here is a little explanation why I think my puts belong.  I hope these meet the spirit of the pass.

Gurkha Prisoner - say what you like about Gurkha and ask anyone and they have an opinion.  They have been around for 115 years or some ridiculous period like that.  While many are dog rockets the Cellar Reserve line is one of my all time favorites and easily forgotten in the fray of the Gurkha opinions

LGC Serie #5 Maduro - Another all time favorites, this, and the #6, have been a go to cigar for me since my early days in this hobby.  LGC is easily a forgotten brand although they have tried recently new releases

Partagas Black - For me the poster child of full strength cigars and many people walk past them on their way to the boutiques

Punch Rare Corojo - Punch is another legacy brand lost in the sea of boutiques and the Rare Corojo is one of their finest blends

I filled the last slot in the finger bags so I threw in a few extras for the pass, awesome packing the container is sweet

Title: Re: Forgotten Classics Pass
Post by: StogieDad on 04/29/2014 04:24 PM
Awesome puts Chuck.  I agree, I keep several of the Cellar Reserve around, as they are awesome smokes.  And that LGC has always been a go-to.  You had the "spirit" nailed I think!

So I offloaded some junk...and tossed in an extra winner (not on the "puts" menu, just in the box) for anyone who'd like to smoke it...I bought some of these while visiting my family in the old country...its band has been removed.

This pass was a great idea and a pleasure!

Peace

Pass arrived today, safe and sound.  I took an inventory and everything looks correct. (Its still early in the pass so I would hope so!  :lmao: )

Bad news is that my wife has a burnt out brake bulb in her car and I need to go get it fixed tonight.  I will try to do my P/T's tonight, but I hate to rush those (that's the best part of the pass) so it might take me one day.  Sorry if this slows it down!

Maybe you could, but the drive to your house was over 20 hours so I just took it local.

My P/T's are done, and this will go to the Post Office tomorrow morning and I'll transition it after I have the DC#.  Also, as one of my takes I took the "extra winner (not on the "puts" menu, just in the box) that John threw in for anyone who'd like to smoke it".  I checked with John first to confirm that this was not meant to be a tip for the moderator, but rather a cigar for someone down the line to try out.  He confirmed. I've added some extra similar Puts to make up for this. I trust that is OK with everyone.

Quotegitfiddl - 5/10/2014  2:57 PM  Methinks this one may have gotten a little too rich for my blood.  No offense meant (or taken), but I need to humbly bow out from this one.
 Dave, there's 4 or 5 higher priced out of 23 cigars.  Take another look before you bow out.
Okay.  Twist my arm, dammit.  I'm still in.

:bigthumbs: Way to go Bruce, glad to see you are still in Dave. BTW some nice puts there too Bruce. Don't figure any will be around when its my turn.

This is quite a nice pass and the list of cigars is impressive. Nice jobs on the P/Ts fellow geeks. I'm a long way down the list but I can't wait to play.

You will be fine.  Remember, a lot of the focus was the traditional brands, as we get so wrapped up, and rightfully so, in the new boutiques.  Age is nice, but the traditional named brands that you really enjoy are welcome here.

Puts and takes are in.  I'll get by the PO here shortly and post the tracking number in a bit.  I meant to do it yesterday, but got caught up in "honey-do's" and whatnot.

There's a story to the Fuego del Rey.  Many moons ago there was a local chain of stores called Pic 'N Save based here in Jacksonville.  They had 40+ stores throughout NE Florida with a couple up Georgia.  I worked for them from 1988-1991, working as what they called their "Electronics Market Specialist", basically the "go-between" between the buyers and store management. They finally succumbed to competition and internal issues and starting shutting down stores in 1996.  A friend and current co-worker bought a crapload of the better cigars they sold (they had a humidor in the warehouse and cigars were stored on tupper-ware like containers in the stores that sold them)  He bought the Fuegos on "closeout" for $.75/5pk and they went into his and his dad's humidors.  He gave me a bunch a couple of years ago.  Surprisingly, they're not bad.  I'd like to hear what whoever gets it and smokes it thinks.

I'm gonna tape up the box and head to the PO.

Don't know what I did or didn't do, but my "takes" didn't show up when I transitioned the pass.  If anyone can fix it, I took the H. Upmann Sun Grown No. 2 (6.125 x 52, HON) Aug 2013, and the La Gloria Cubana Gilded Age Magnum (6.13x60, DR).  Sorry, it's been a rough day...

Puts and Takes done. Pass transitioned and shipped with 250 insurance. Sammy, do me a favor and check all my puts once you get it. I was in kinda a hurry, if I didn't ship today it would have had to be monday.

Also I tried to add a couple of aged cigars to the pass, if you take one please have another rare or aged cigar to replace it with. I realize that I took a cigar way older than I put but this was carefully taken into consideration and I did as well as I could. Michael thanks for having me and I enjoyed this little ride. Feedback being left shortly.

John, see if you can find it. Also, I must have accidently clicked a box requiring a signature when I got online postage. Didn't mean to. Supposed to be there 7/23/2014. Nice box coming your way.

Happy you like them. That 14 year old cigar is just for you   It's one of the advantages of being last, I know my puts will be your takes, literally. I think you'll like the package coming your way, should be there by Monday.

Thanks for having me in the pass.

Alright guys.  Thank you so much for an awesome pass.  I am closing this baby out shortly, and I am pretty sure I left everyone feedback.  If not, please PM and I will rectify that.  An awesome bunch of geeks in this one!

Once some of these other passes clear out, maybe I will devise another one.  Hope you all would want to play again!

Ok, I know it seems like this pass was completed but it wasn't, not exactly.

I got my takes from Michael today. Let me be clear, StogieDad sent them to me a while ago, it was just one of those packages that wants to travel a bit before hitting it's final destination. From Woodstock to Miami where they stayed a while basking in the sun, and then finally on to Montreal.

I'm happy to say all is well and the sticks, although a little dry, are in good shape.

Only problem is, I got 10 cigars but I could swear I only had 5 takes, I'll have to inquire about that

Thanks Michael, I enjoyed being in your pass, would do it again tomorrow.
