Just wondering has anybody sharpened a cigar cutter, or do you even do that. I have a Xikar XI cutter that I have had for a couple years and it doesn't seem to be cutting as good as it once did. I can't see throwing it away especially after spending $60 for it. Maybe I could send it in to Xikar and let them replace the blades??

Xikar has a lifetime guarantee. Contact them and tell them the issue. They will tell you what to do to send it to them for sharpening. Many times they simply just replace it. I have done this 4-5 times over the past 10 years on various Xikar products. They are the best customer service group out there!

I have used the warranty on a couple of their lighters. Doing warranties thru their website is a breeze. Maybe I will just send it in, whats the worse they can say, no.
What about Colibri? Anyone return one of their cutters?
There is a form on the Xikar website. Print it out, send it in with the cutter. No need to contact in advance. Just had one fixed
Palio are another great company to deal with. If their cutter gets dull, you don't even have to deal with shipping it back. Just take it to any store that sells them, and they are obligated to replace it, no questions asked.
I wouldn't try to sharpen one, I would send it back to Xikar, but I had cleaned mine before. Sometimes they can seem dull due to residue build up on the blade. I just use a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol and clean them off. Usually does the trick pretty well.
Aren't Xikar cutters supposed to be self sharpening?
Haven't had any problems with mine but then I do loose most of them before they get really old. And unfortunately, contrary to many here, I just cannot find time to smoke 2+ cigars a day, so my cutters are not getting used as often as some here :biggrin:
I concur that they have an outstanding customer service philosophy, they'd faster replace for new than repair almost anything you send, can't go wrong.
I have sent two back. they just replace them.

You might even try going to a local B&M that sells Xikar and trading it in. There are some shops out here that will give you a new one for your old one. Worth a shot. :biggrin:
Xikar is outstanding with their guarantee. I had a v cutter that wouldn't cut hot butter due to my daughter trimming wire fake plant limbs with it and they replaced it, don't ask about my parenting skills its a long story.

This^^^^ and if that doesn't work it's a lifetime warranty and they will either fix it or give you another...this is why it pays to buy Xikar merchandise.
Return is the best option if possible. Hope it works out.
Have a at least 20 year old cutter, No name brand but it is all stainless, I have used a very small round shaped ceramic rod and is about a 1/4" in diameter on it many times just to get a edge back, It is the smallest one I have ever found for sharpening any type of blade, I am not a expert but works for me, If you have a name brand I would follow the prior advice...

I was at Outlaw cigar store in KC had my cutter with me and I told them that it felt like it was catching or something. The girl behind the counter looked at them and tossed them in a box and asked if I wanted the same color. I purchased mine off C-Bid. :biggrin:

They will replace it I'm sure. I sent back an old punch cutter of theirs I had for 10 years or more that wouldn't cut. They no longer had the same punch and sent me a new one that was more expensive and better than my old one. Good company.
I suspect it would be hard to sharpen a cutter on your own, trying to get the correct angle on the blade with a round hone would be a challenge. It being a Xikar, I would send it back as others have suggested.
I have had 2 Xikars for 3 or so years, one is a V and the other is a Ultra Slim. The Ultra is just as sharp now as it was new and the V is as well. Let us know how it turns out
Sounds like a plan to send it back to them. I would bring it into a store, but I have the green leaf pattern that I really like and doubt they have the same one to trade. I have other cheaper cutters to use in the meantime, and when all else fails I have a Xikar V cutter to use.
I use the perfect cutter by cuban crafters. They have a warrantee but I've never had to use it yet. Plus they are a lot cheaper then the other brands and you can get them on Amazon.
I have mine cleaned and sharpened thru a local B&M. Apparently one guy in town does it for all of them. Many of my cutters are quite old, were gifts, or are engraved so I prefer not to warranty them out.

Ya Xikar is pretty good about this kind of stuff, I have had a lighter that i had to replace 2 times, each time when i sent it back, they just replaced it!

Yep...why sharpen them when you would get a replacement...this is why I buy Xikar products.

You can indeed sharpen a cigar cutter but it takes patience and skill + the right tools to do the job. Far better to buy Xikars and send them back when they get dull like most of us do. However, if you really want to try your hand...have at it! :biggrin:
