Title: Today's Smoke
Post by: Hot Stuff x on 08/04/2009 08:48 AM

No cigar today.   I had a bowl of Scotty's Butternut Blend in my Barling bent, and a bowl of Lane RLP in my classic cob.

I just started piping about a month ago.  I'm not giving up cigars.  I like cigars with friends, and the pipe when I'm studying or otherwise alone.  I'm trying not to get to far down the slope with pipes, though.

I have to correct my last post.  I ended up staying up unreasonably late and had a Flor de Oliva lonsdale with about one year of rest.  Those things are just about perfect now.  Flavor reminded me of a Hemingway Short Story.  The wrapper even had that lightly spiced touch of sweetness like the Hemingway cigars have.  A great cigar, should cost twice as much as they're charging.

ok, well it's just us posting I guess. Heres my tally for today, started at the shop with a hansotia park avenue 44, then a padilla golden bear. went home, came back to the shop, smoked a LFD DL-700 then a CAO LX2 lancero, then a CAO america, oh and also a Tatuaje SW maduro in there somwhere. (I'm in the habbit of keeping my bands in my pocket, and yes, on occasion I have to smoke a perdomo fresco as you can see, unfortunately they float to the top I guess). Tom :smoker:

'Twas a Victor Sinclair Serie 55 Yellow Grand Reserve Robusto on the way to last night's gig for me.  It was better that I expected.

Cool! That's what I had this morning on my long-ass drive to work (San Antonio to Austin). Just the right strength for me this morning--even went well with the Diet Coke I had with me.

Will have to remember to post my review later when somebody isn't paying me to do something else.

Man, I've only had the Park Avenue out of that top group.

I love the process of emptying out my day's worth of bands from my pockets. Sometimes the shorts I wear before bed end up with several days' worth of bands, which probably means I should have more than one pair of shorts (or I should wash them more often).

I started the day with a Gispert Corona.  A little too mild for my taste, almost like a 5 Vegas Gold Light and about halfway through it started needing near constant puffing to stay lit.

Shortly thereafter, I smoked what I think was a La Vieja Habana Rothschild Luxo, going by the description in the database.  All the band said was La Vieja Habana.  A buddy gave it to me about a month ago and said it had been in his humi "forever".  I enjoyed it much more than the Gispert.

I'm not sure what's next, but when I woke up this morning I said to myself "Self, I think this is a four or five cigar day!"

Last night, at a small party on my girlfriend's roofdeck here in Boston, two cigars with a fellow cigar smoking friend:  first, a '00 Bolivar Corona Extra, then a DPG JJ maduro belicoso.   Probably because it was well aged, the Boli CE was complex and much more subtle than the more recent Boli's I've smoked.  The DPG JJ was my end of the night dessert smoke, bold, rich, and spicy.  Yum.

Today, just finished a Montecristo Afrique Jambo.  My first Monte Afrique, a nice twist on the original.  Hoping to get in another smoke before the night's over.

Cigar #3 for me today was a Cu-Avana Intenso Toro.  WOW!  Strong and unrefined is the best description I can give, like being kicked in the chest by a mule when you think you're petting a goat.  I loved it.  I'm gonna eat leftover Chinese takeout and end the night with something nice...maybe one of those flavored Drew Estate Tabak Especial flavored jobs ...

Busy-assed weekend for me.   Friday night I went to a herf and had a Acid Extra Ordinary Larry.  this is a monster 60 ring cigar.  Unfortunately, the wrapper started to unravel the moment I snipped the cap.  That coupled with the giant ring caused a draw problem, felt like the cigar had a hole in it.  I smoked about 2/3 of it anyway.

Saturday I went for a short (150 miles) ride in the rain with some friends.  Later in the evening smoked a Victor Sinclair Serie 55 Yellow (cameroon) chiselfecto.  The flavor on this cigar is good, but mine was nearly plugged--like sucking a golf ball through a garden hose.

I really wanted to follow that up with a standard Punch, but needed to get to bed---big day coming up Sunday!

I had to take a couple of my girlfriend's friends to the airport this morning before work, so I refrained from smoking with them in the car. I think one of them said to smoke if I wanted to, but I try to do everything right when it comes to non-smokers because when I was young, cigarette smoke assaulted my senses...

Anyway, NO smoke today so far--I really wish I had a petite something or other so I could sit outside and puff during lunch break.

   :violin:

However, yesterday's first smoke was about the most perfect morning smoke I've had in a long time--a La Aurora 2nds robusto. I bought a bundle a couple of months ago and the first I tried was just decent.
However, this one seemed much better and went with my Latte extremely well as I sat on the patio during the early morning hours before the temp climbed over 100. AGAIN.

As for me, I am having my first Graycliff Double Espresso.  This cigar smelled phenomenal prelight, and I've really enjoed the 1/2 inch so far.

Don Lino 1989 maduro robusto.  Semi-decent smoke but the burn was horrible.  I've got another one in the humidor and I will let it sit for a long time before I try it.  However, I did have an Arturo Fuente Exquisito maduro later in the day and it made up for the Don Lino.  Great little cigar!

Enjoyed a Sol Cubano Cuban Cabinet Robusto on the way to work today: http://www.cigargeeks.com/index.php?action=cigars;area=showcig;cigar_id=16008

It went really well with the latte my girl made for me--she was up early for some reason. The coffee she used has a French vanilla flavor added to it. Normally I hate flavored coffee, especially for espresso. However, the Sol Cubano really had a great back-and-forth going with this drink. The vanilla of the drink complimented the caramel/chocolate notes; the steamed milk mixed well with the woodsy spice...

It was a good drive until I ran out of cigar and drink with 15 minutes left before I got to work (that's how long it takes for me to get to work.)

Had a Oliva Serie 'G' Maduro Belicoso this afternoon. Just an amazing cigar--probably my favorite size and wrapper for the Oliva G's.

Finished the Sunday night up with a CAO 'VR' Moby (i think it's basically a Toro).
Often the description in CI/CBid is a bunch of bulls**t, but I TOTALLY agree with this one:
"a robust bouquet of earthy and leathery flavors, complemented by a note of coffee and a lovely touch of sweet pepper on the finish."
There's such a great lingering flavor of coffee with this cigar, it makes you wonder why anyone bothers smoking a coffee-infused or coffee-flavored cigar when you can just have a REAL cigar like this.

Heh, the 5 Vegas Serie A Anomaly is my Wednesday Lunchtime Herf cigar.  Need a smoke that lasts under and hour, so it's the Anomaly, Hemingway Short Story, or Oliva Special G on most days.

Last night I had a Oliva Serie 'O' Robusto, and a Helix x550 Maduro, each with about 6 months rest.  I have a box of the Helix, and the cellos are pretty damn golden these days, and the cigars have just a slight bit of plume on them.  Mild but flavorful and delicious.

5 Vegas Series A Artisan while I was putting the hinges on my humidor project.  Tiny  little brass screws for the hinges!  My drill wouldn't hold a bit small enough to predrill the holes so I had to hold the drill in a pin vise.  I was a nervous wreck by the time I finished the last hole.  Kept expecting the teeny little drill to snap any minute.  The cigar settled me down though.  By the time I finished drilling a hole it was time to take another puff.  Worked out pretty good.

This is the only place I know that sells them.  I believe they are partly owned by Crown David since it represents about 60% of their inventory in the retail store.  I have never ordered from them online but have dealt with them in the retail store on many occasions.

Just finished a cheap Nicaraguan cigar called Gamboni Ninos (about a 4.5 X 44 gauge). It was given to me by a guy at Finck's Cigar Factory Outlet. Not bad at all--reminded me of the CI Legends Black Label (La Aurora).
Sold at Sam's Club for about $12 for 12.

Speaking of Finck's, I bought a Charles the Great which I am about to try, along with a Java Latte Wafe which was on sale for $3 at the outlet.

Finck's really is a cool place to hang. I went there earlier and smoked my last Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo Du Prince '99 (ISOM). Awesome mellow taste of woody spice. The last third of that cigar was as good as I've ever tasted.

La Fontana Vintage Galileo.  Not bad, not great.  I gave it a three.  It was a little bitter just after the light, but it mellowed.  You've got to like a robusto that drops its ash once before you're done.

Speaking of Finck's, I bought a Charles the Great which I am about to try, along with a Java Latte Wafe which was on sale for $3 at the outlet.

:cigarman:

Follow-up: The Charles the Great was dry and plugged. Couldn't get any kind of draw on it, so I had to pitch it. This is the fourth cigar I've bought from the Finck outlet that has been unsmokable. I'm beginning to think they aren't keeping that big-ass humidor properly maintained. Either that, or their cigars are the cheapest s**t they can get their hands on.

The wafe was not an enjoyable smoke. Burn was messed up. What a stupid shape for a cigar--a big popsicle.

Saturday was better. I stuck to cigars I could trust such as a RP Vintage 1990 and a Montecristo Media Noche. I also bought a variety 12-pack of Michelob wheat beers (Shock Top, Honey Wheat, and two others) that went well with my smokes. Especially the Michelob Dunkel Weiss.

Smoked only one cigar yesterday--and it was a good one (an ISOM). After dinner I sat on the patio with my video iPod, watching the last few shows of Entourage Season 3 and smoking a Rafael Gonzales Petit Corona from 1999.

It was so good.

Had a wonderful mellow aged taste of wood and spice. Built in complexity and strength as it went. I've noticed that I can exhale through my nose with a cigar like this and get nothing but more flavor--no sting or burn at all. And the aftertaste almost floats on the tips of my taste buds.

This is only my 8th ISOM and I'm really starting to understand what the big deal is.

Had a MAXX by Alec Bradley on the way home. I think it was a churchill, but I checked the database and it was probably the Curve or the Culture--definitely not a 48 gauge--more like a 54.

I thought this was a wonderful cigar with lots of body and a mellow woodsy taste as a base. Got dried cherries, leather, caramel, and cocoa/espresso notes. also got the 5 finger gut punch!

Loved it. Smoked it to the nub and was rewarded by citrus flavors in the last few puffs that I THOUGHT I had tasted in the first inch, but wasn't sure.

When I figure out what size I got in that sampler, I'll post my review.

addendum: It was a "Culture," the churchill size. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I started out with a Drew Estate Tabak Especial Robusto Dulce.  Far different than what I expected.  Very little true cigar/tobacco flavor and less coffee than I expected from a cigar that said "coffee infused" on the band, but tons of chocolate.  I wouldn't smoke one every day, but I enjoyed it quite a bit.

About an hour later, I smoked a Gispert Belicoso which didn't impress me at all.

I'm with you, Bob.  Gispert isn't on my "next to buy" list.  I did however just nub a surprising cigar, a Cigar Hut Bundles Box Pressed Maduro Robusto.  Surprising because the guy that gave it to me paid like 40 cents each, shipping included, and I'd smoke these every day of the week over a Gispert.  Not as perty, but sometimes even ugly girls can be fun... :-0

Had my first La Flor Dominicana today.  I've been looking for them at Schwab's in Lexington and they finally had some today.  Bought an El Jocko maduro and a Limitado III.  Had the El Jocko on the way home and it was a really decent smoke.  Funny looking little thing though.  Looks like a miniature bowling pin.  The foot has an abrupt taper from about 40 to 54 ring in the span of a 1/2" then it tapers to 32 ring at the head.  It's only 4 and 1/2 inches long so it looks a little odd.  Doesn't affect the taste though and it lasted close to an hour.  I'll save the Limitado III for a special occassion.

La Flor seems to fly under the radar a lot of the time.  Their Double Ligero series are some of the most flavorful cigars I've had, albeit they are nicotine bombs.  The LFD DL Chisel is my favorite of their offerings.

Speaking of which, I need to find a deal on those...

Last night I smoked a Chateau Fuente Maduro... and did not have a good experience with it.  It burned hot and tunneled like crazy.   I think it may have been a bit dry though.   Unfortunetely it was my only one, so I won't be able to give it a second chance.

I keep all the sticks I receive as gifts/trades in one humidor, and I think it may have gotten a bit dry, so the sticks in the one humi are in need of rehab.

I had a 5 Vegas Classic today.  Pretty good smoke until it came apart about 2 inches in.  Never saw anything like it.  It suddenly swelled and the wrapper frayed out all over the place like it had exploded or something.  I tried to keep it going but it was a hopeless cause.  Sorta looks like the filler was bunched funny in that spot and something went haywire.  I know it wasn't overhumidified because it's been at 65% for over a month.  Weird!
Title: RE: Today's Smoke
Post by: nwb on 09/13/2009 09:27 PM
I just smoked a Cain Maduro, and it was not what I expected.  The cigar definitely is a nicotine bomb, but it wasn't nearly as full as I would have thought being 100% ligero.  It ended up being fairly comparable to a RP Edge Maddie.  I had expected something along the lines of a LFD DL.

That being said, it was definitely a solid cigar.  Not too complex, but some nice coffee and sweetness I like in cigars.  These would probably get better with age as well.

I smoked a Padilla Obsidian belicoso tonight. I got a bundle of these about a year ago and  smoked a few fresh. I haven't had one in a long while, but pulled one out on a whim. It was really good!  Smoother, balanced, mellower, yes, and not super complex, but with great dark maduro flavors. I still have more than half the bundle and am looking forward to the rest of them.

I'm really sorry to hear that.  I usually try to smoke most CAOs after dry boxing them for a while - they smoke better at 60% RH.   The Italia has a very unique flavor I haven't found in any other cigar.  If you get a chance to try another, let it sit out for a while and then give it a shot.

Right now, I'm really digging this Carlos Torano Virtuoso I'm smoking.  It is the best cigar I've had that carries the Torano name.

Tonight was a Carlos Torano 1916 Cameroon Robusto and a Nica Libre Exclusivo.  Both were acceptable, but fell short of my expectations.  Granted, they are recent arrivals to my humidor, but I wanted to smoke smoke something new to me.  I think the 1916 will definitely improve with adequate aging, but unless the loose, under-filled feeling of the Nica Libre was an aberration, I harbor little hope for much improvement.

I felt that way about the Acid Liquid (part of the red line). Now I want to try the Kuba Kuba from the blue line. I had a Cold Tea Infusion from the Yellow line and it was horrible--a total wreck.  :blech:

Today I've had a LFD Double Ligero chisel (STRONG), a RP Signature Series lancero (tasty light cedar and caramel flavors), and a Finck's Travis Club Especiales/perfecto (mild and flavorless until halfway in; then average tobacco/grassy flavor).

Tonight I tackle a recent refugee from an ISOM, a Punch Corona. I've had one with 10 years of age on it, so this be to see what it tastes like with no age. Oh, and the last aged Punch I have looks EXACTLY like the one from 1998. They haven't changed the label or size in over ten years, at least.

Gotta love that kind of consistency.

Dupont lighter, HOLY CRAP never thought I would own one, Im going to light somthing special with it for the first time. either a LFD salamones or maybe a GURKHA TRIAD. got to do somthing special, did you know a special refill for this lighter is 8 bucks, I didnt till I got it, Thats nuts!!!, Guitar Tom. oh did i mention whiskey.

Did somebody say WHISKEY?  :rocker:

I had a CAO Italia Novella after lunch and went to the TNT B&M and grabbed a La Vieja Habana Gordito Rico with the Brazilian Maduro wrapper. Liked them both.

I had a CAO Brazilia Carioca this morning after I went to town to check the mail.  Found an Indian Tabac Super Fuerte natural in the humidor for something to smoke while I was sawing some wood and running the planer.  I was surprised by how good the Indian Tabac stick turned out to be!  Their idea of Super Fuerte isn't the same as mine though as the stick seemed more on the medium end of the spectrum.  Nice sweet tang to it though and some creaminess.

Amused myself during the morning drive with a TNT Padron Aniversario Alternative. This is the toro size with the natural wrapper: http://www.cigargeeks.com/index.php?action=cigars;area=showcig;cigar_id=16223

SOOOOOOOO good. I s**t you not. I smoked a buttload of more expensive cigars this weekend that were not as tasty as this one. I wouldn't recommend ALL TNT alternatives, but this one in any size with any wrapper seems to be a winner: https://www.tntcigar.com/store/index.php?cPath=36_305

This is the only cigar I have ever bought from TNT.  I would also say it probably has the closest flavor profile to the Padron X000 line, although they need a little age to show their full potential.  If you order them when they are on special, the cigar is hard to beat.

Last night had a Hemingway Short Story. Started off tasting like burnt toast and after reading so many great things about this cigar I thought I was about to be disappointed. But once the burn round the bell it mellowed out wonderfully and lasted about 45 minutes. Perfect time as I was tired.

Tonight was a DPG Generosos for me and an RyJ Habana Reserve for my buddy Hernandez. The DPG was good, had to touch it up twice but nothing major. I prefer the Black label to the Blue's but still enjoyed it. I think the Blue's would do better with age while I like the Black's young.

A Toro 5-pack costs $22 with free shipping. A bundle of 25 costs $55 with free shipping, so why pay $4.40 each when you can pay $2.20 each? So it's just a matter of who has $55 to spare. I smoked two of the maduro robustos and they were very good, although not as good as the reviews these naturals got. (4 stars vs 4.5 stars).

601 Blue Label this morning on the long-ass drive to work. It was a near perfect smoke--perfect strength for the situation, perfect burn, pleased by every flavor I tasted (including some I didn't pick up on last time I smoked one a few weeks ago)...

I had talked up the Blue so much, I had to verify I was remembering the cigar correctly... and I just got another 5-pack in the mail yesterday, so life is good.  :shades:

Saint Luis Rey Serie G No. 6 this afternoon.  Graycliff G2 Toro after dinner.  The former (in various large rings sizes over the years) has been a staple in my humidor.  The latter is a new favorite but sadly it's both too expensive at it's regular price (IMO anyway) and I read somewhere that Graycliff will be reblending the G2 very soon.

About a year ago, CA gave this a 90 and you suddenly couldn't find them anywhere. I recently received a box, and I must say I am disappointed. I'm going to let them age for a while (a year or so, perhaps) and see what develops. Watch for the review.

First today on the way to the gig was a Famous Dominican 3000 Robusto which was better than I expected it to be.  While I was loading in, setting up, and doing the soundcheck. I thoroughly enjoyed a Bolivar Toro.  The first Bolivar I smoked a few months ago left me unimpressed and wondering why some folks made a big deal about them.  Today, I got it! .  The final smoke was a Belinda Prominente.  I took it out of my travel humi for a prop for the "smoking big cigars" verse of "Folsom Prison" and in a fit of exuberance, I bit clean through the cigar, about a half an inch past the cap! When it was time to tear down and load out, I figured what the hell, cut the head off at about an inch past the cao and smoked it anyway.  I did have a "pseudo-Cordell" moment...when I slid the cedar wrap off of the Belinda, the wrapper was dotted with several white spots.  I brushed them off and smoked it anyway and listened to "Dark Side of the Moon" on the way home...

I'm smoking a Drew Estate La Vieja Habana Corona.  It had a year or more in my friend's humidor before it found it's way into mine a while back.  It's a tasty albeit mild cigar.

Had a chance to smoke several cigars at an outdoor Halloween party last night (had a bit of beer and vodka, too)...

In reverse order:
ITC 10th Anniversary Robusto (pales in comparison to the Edge, but a solid smoke)
Rocky Patel Edge Corojo Toro (really liked the spice in this one)
Java Latte '58' (a good cigar to smoke around others--smoke smells good to non-smokers and it is a beautifully unique cigar)
San Cristobal Clasico (one of my new favorites)

Gave an EO no. 21 torpedo to a friend who I'd given one to a couple of months ago. He's slowly getting into cigars since I keep handing them out at work on Fridays. SPREAD THE LOVE, I say.

Started with a La Caya Vintage Robusto after lunch.  Decent cheapie.  Followed that with a Benchmade Robusto.  Better cheapie.  Now I'm having a 601 Green Tronco.  Very good cigar, made even better by the fact I won it for $3.

This is the first time I've had 3 cigars in a day in a LONG time.

Yesterday I had a fantastic day on the golf course and had:

1. Tatuaje Drac (a little disappointed with the construction but the flavor was excellent)
2. Graycliff Crystal Series Torpedo (a little over 1 1/2 years of age - Fantastic cigar!)
3. Rocky Patel Sun grown petite corona (over 2 years of age - also excellent!)
4. Nub Connecticut Torpedo (great smoke - a little spicier than I expected, especially following my earlier cigars)

This morning: a RP Vintage 1990 Robusto.

Yesterday, I had two cigars I've never tried before:
The first was a Punch London Club Maduro I got from Alphairon in the Short Smokes pass--very solid little cigar. Tasty maduro flavors.

The second was the Joya de Nicaragua Antaño Robusto Grande I got from DonM in the Unlimited Pass Without End pass. This cigar was super strong, but tasty. It was everything I expected from the LFD I had a few weeks ago. The Antaño is packed with delicious flavors and stays mellow as long as I go slow on it. I'm not much of a Full Flavor guy, but this cigar made me wish I had a glass of Scotch to go with it. (Even though I've never had Scotch before) .

THe Kuba Kuba is too sweet for my taste.  I prefer the Liquid or the Acid Ltd. Def Sea (a CI exclusive).

For some reason, some of the Acids I've had recently were very poorly made, in that they were very loosely packed and felt spongy.  Never had that problem with a KubaKuba until this one, although I have had that experience with some of the other Acid line.

One of the large on line retailers (Tex? CVT? Anyway, based in the Southwest somewhere) copntinues to run specials on all his Hoyo/Excalibur brands starting with a disclaimer that states (paraphrasing here) years ago, they used to be great smokes but have really gone down hill a lot in the last few years.  I wouldn't know as I haven't smoked many Hoyo brands and the Excaliburs I have smoked have not been at all memorable, except for the Hoyo de Tradiccion which I found to be an excellent cigar in every way -- even their classy CC-style band.

Anyone else ever have a day where none of the cigars you smoke taste right? I've had a GH 3 Siglos this morning that seemed "off." Then on the way home, I had a Brazilia and it seemed off, too (but that was after a Camacho 1962, so maybe that affected the taste of the Brazilia?).

I ate Palek Paneer when I got home--if anything can fix my tastebuds, it's a whole mess of Indian food.

Anyone else have off days taste-wise? (Unrelated to illness, that is.)
I remember a day months ago when every cigar I smoked seemed off. I blamed it on the cigars, but the next of each type I tried was back to how they had tasted before...

I don't think it's a humi issue--the two cigars mentioned are from different humis (and I run a tight ship, humi-wise).

It can happen. The senses are complicated, and small health issues can throw off the sense of taste & smell to make subtle differences in our perceptions, even if you aren't sick per se. Professional tasters and "noses" in the scent industry have to stay in top form, and you may have something going on which they would notice as a cause, but you only find the effect.

Another explanation is, it is possible you were abducted by aliens who left false memories implanted to explain the missing time. Their experiments may have left a strange taste in your mouth. For example, what if they mixed up the oral thermometer with the other kind?

Advertising comparisons?

From CI:

"Calling all Padron fans!

Hand-crafted in Nicaragua, Nica Libre is a veritable candy bar. This blend showcases an aged combination of Nicaraguan long-fillers secured within a Habano binder, inside dark and oily, positively resplendent San Andres maduro wrapper. A classic maduro experience: rich, hearty, and silky smooth. Deep notes of coffee and earth smack the palate in balanced fashion, leaving behind a bold, somewhat peppery aftertaste that lingers long on the palate. A hint of dark chocolate is present during the slow burn, completing an eventful and enjoyable medium-bodied cigar. One of the finest values in a Nicaraguan handmade maduro that you'll find on the market today."

It ain't no Padron, but te Nica Libre is a good cigar.

Arturo Fuente Anejo Reserva No. 48 tonight.  It was the best of the three I've had.  Perfect draw, perfect volume of smoke, lots of dark chocolate, perfect aroma.  By far the fullest body of the three.  I smoked it down so far I was spitting flaming chunks of tobacco before I let go of it. :smoker:

I had my first Diesel today.  What a good smoke right off the truck!  Can't wait til they get a little age on them but they are already good.  The PA broadleaf yields a rich sweetness that is very tasty.  Good pepper blast for the first little bit then it settles down nicely.  I'll have a few more before I do a review but the early signs are encouraging.

Had my first RP Edge Maduro (toro) this morning. Taste was solid, but I was a little disappointed. The burn was wonky and the flavor got a little boring by the end.

Rich, can that mess with the taste of a cigar? I was wondering because I cut a toro in half not long ago (due to time constraints during a lunch break) and it turned out to be a horrible smoke--and it's a cigar I normally like a lot...

Just wondering. I personally can't think of a reason why smoking a half-cigar would affect the taste that much.

La Herencia Cubana Oscuro Fuerte right off the Big Brown Box on Wheels.  This one is a winner!  Opens with a little burst of pepper then settles into a sweet mellow smoothness.  Strongly reminds me of Punch Rothschild oscuros and the ERDM robusto oscuro.  I think a little age will really kick this one up.  Inexpensive too.  I'll smoke a few more before I review it to make sure this wasn't a fluke.  I think I am deeply in love with the PA broadleaf wrappers.

In my experience it messes more with the construction than with the taste.  Cigars cut in half have more of a tendency to unravel.  But I'm done this a couple times with smokes that I have enjoyed before and it has never affected the taste IMO.  It is not my preference but I was out at a bar last night with my brothers and gave each a cigar.  I figured I was only going to have one but I brought 2 so I would have a choice.  I smoked the liga and wanted to smoke the other but didn't think I would have time to smoke the churchill, thus the split.  I have never had one before but I liked it.

Java Wafe; just for kicks, but turned out to be a very smoky and tasty little stick. Moved on to a Nica Libre Torpedo - very light smoke and smooth as can be. Slightly tight on the draw and burns very cool.  Started to lose interest at half, but it's making a nice come back...

I think you asked a while back where I was finding these for $3/cigar.  In the past month, I've been able to snatch around 20 of them in various sizes for $3 on CBID.  IMO, they are really one of the best medium-bodied cigars out there.

No travel tomorrow, so I grabbed some Maudite and some good cigars tonight.
1. Montecristo White Pronto
2. Don Pepin Garcia Serie JJ Belicoso
3. Joya De Nicaragua Antaño Gran Consul (4.75 x 60--weird taper to the head)

I got time for one more. Maybe a Oliva V Double Robusto.

At this rate, I'm going to have to break into the wine and write some random thoughts with Bob.

The Acid Opulence Toro was pretty nice.  For those of you who haven't tried any of the Acid cigars because you were a-feared of the strength of the botanicals, this one would be a good starting point.  It had more traditional flavor than the others I smoked.

What a day for maduros. The air was fairly nippy but the sunshine was quite warm, I felt like a lizard sunning on a hot rock, fairly laid back all day. I had a Bolivar Cofradia as the sun was setting while taking time to stir my haluska I was cooking every now and then.

We watched UT beat Kentucky, barely, and I lit a JR Ultimate Oscuro at half time. What a cigar, every time I smoke those I'm wondering why I dont have a box...

5 Vegas Triple-A for me.  It was the second one I've had and both have been very good.  The PA broadleaf wrapper really has a nice mellow sweetness that balances the taste very nicely.  If you are a maduro fan this is certainly one to try.

On the way home, I had a Bolivar Cofradia No. 1 (from rkarkada in the Long & Luscious pass). It was a very tasty cigar that (I think) had crystals on it when I pulled it out of the cello. Unfortunately, the cap popped off when I cut it and the wrapper gave out in the last third. Still, I got a good feel for the cigar and come it to the ERDM...

Long drive home, so I sparked a 5 Vegas Gold. Busted the cap on that one...

I NEED A BETTER CUTTER! Any suggestions? What's the best cutter I can get for under $30?

Xikars can be had for around $30.  I've had mine for about 6-7 years, and it cuts just as well now as when it was new.  Also, their warranty and CS is superb - I had to return mine because the inner spring finally gave out.  They sent me a new one  :dancing:
