Thinking about putting a walk in humidor in the basement. If Spanish Cedar is not able to be in my budget, is there any other wood(s) that would be acceptable?

Have you thought about doing it in concrete board and then lining in with the cedar closet liners. It's kinda like tongue and groove flooring but for the walls. It may be just what you need.
I would caution you against using an aromatic cedar to line your walk-in unless you wish ALL your cigars to taste like that because eventually they will ALL taste like cedar. Although, you won't have to worry about moths if you do use it! Any soft wood with low odor should suffice as many walk-in type humidors use only rough-sawn pine, fir, or other easily obtained low cost wood. The problem will be to determine which one is most stable for a sub-grade location like a basement.

GREAT POINTS I didn't even think about that issue with that type of cedar.
Brad beat me to it, I would not use regular cedar. Monogany s in the same family of wood but would probably be expensive as well. A quick google search, there are some links on building a walk in and would recommend doing some reading. If you go forward with it, let us know how it turns out!
Vroomp got it right on. Cedar is definitely not the way to go as all Cedar comes with an odor that will "infuse" the cigars and you do not want that.
Spanish Cedar is from the Mahoganny family, not even cedar per say. Many humidors use mahogany, I've read that Honduran mahogany has certain similar properties with Spanish cedar but it won't emit the particular odor that pest dislike but smokers don't, which is the #1 reason for using it in humidors.
It has to be natural wood, untreated and as odorless as possible. But what's a couple thousand bucks in wood when it comes to storing our precious collections :biggrin:
they do make Spanish Cedar veneers in 4X8 sheets and also make thin boarding. You can get sheets in 1/4 and 3/4 inch at a semi-reasonable price. If you use a veneer then the underlayment needs to be untreated.
You don't need full 1/2 think boards (save those for the shelving).

Luaun is a very cheap but usable option.

A walk in humidor is something every house needs (along with a wine cellar). Ever since I was a kid, I wanted a house with both.
