I'd like to be a part of this.  I still consider myself a newbie, but obsessive about all the great smokes out there.  The passes ARE fun and it's a great way to learn and try some new sticks. So if you'll have me, I'm in (despite Sugar Bowl 12/31/95  )

No, a newbie who joins this pass will be joining one ran with integrity and honesty, and some killer cigars. Stefan, you simply do not understand how we treat each other here on CG. You are doing things completely the opposite. You are proving that you cannot be trusted, and that is not easily earned back. But don't worry, there are other sites for you to join.  :notamused:

I just can't let this one go by. I mean wow, man, you haven't been ACCUSED of not running a traditional pass, your "pass" is nowhere near traditional and that's a fact, not an accusation. You have chosen to continue running it the way you intended to and that is, from a certain point of view, you prerogative.

But I fail to understand how it is you think you can go on disrespecting the rules and, in the end, most of us geeks, while calling yourself one. To me, being a geek is a whole lot more than smoking or collecting cigars.

I too, like you and many others hate it when people force my hand or plain tell me what to do but I still adhere to society's rules as I want to be part of it, shouldn't it be the same when joining a club? Those rules were there before you joined and the pass etiquette as well. Hundreds of passes happened with diverse themes, each an original pass with happy Geeks participating and ran in many different ways, but all had in common the fact they respected the rules and etiquette.

Why is it you want to play with us but don't want to play by the rules we are all happy to obey? I believe being a Geek means acting like one, can you?

I'll need a little help from some of you that have already signed up - if there are any brands that you are interested in having in the seed list, post up and I'll do my best to get them in.

The usual suspects will kick this off... Arturo Fuente, CAO, Drew Estate, Flat Bed, Illusione, La Flor Dominicana, Tatuaje, and Viaje.

Post up!  :-)

Ok, I am drawing a line in the sand.
posts on this pass thread are limited to discussions about this pass.  No more pass comparisons or what is wrong and/or right, no more baiting.
Brad has set up a pass and now its purpose is to move forward under the rules he has set.

You may now resume smoking your cigars.

Just a quick update - we have all slots filled but one - I'm waiting on the last potential participant to reply to a recent PM and then I'll close this off and get the ball rolling.

Since we're so close to the holidays, I'll kick this off right after the New Year to avoid personal schedule conflicts.

The seed cigars will be updated soon - I've had a few requests from our newer members - if you have particular brand that you'd like to have in the initial seeds, post on this thread your requests and I'll do my best to include them!

Welcome aboard to all the participants!

The cigar list is very impressive!!  Newb question - I am having trouble with a value for some of the cigars on the list.  I want to make sure that I am trading cigars of equal value.  I have checked CI, Cigar, and Famous, but some of the cigars listed on this pass are not for sale.  Where else should I look to determine a value?  Is there a Kelly Blue Book for cigars?

The cigar list is very impressive!!  Newb question - I am having trouble with a value for some of the cigars on the list.  I want to make sure that I am trading cigars of equal value.  I have checked CI, Cigar, and Famous, but some of the cigars listed on this pass are not for sale.  Where else should I look to determine a value?  Is there a Kelly Blue Book for cigars?

Safest thing to do with any pass when you're not sure is to send the pass creator a note and ask. Odds are some of the cigars you're wondering about will be replaced with different ones by the time it reaches you, so while it's great to be prepared things will change.

Google is the Kelly Blue book of cigars...kind of, chances are you can find all the cigars there if they aren't being sold by CI or Famous. Easiest just to ask if you're still unsure though.

Which cigars and if you have another source for pricing, we can take a look at them!

OK - the pass order is set and I'll kick this off on Sunday (see below).

Please take a look at the pass order and assume about a week between each participant to get an idea of the time frame your turn will occur.  If you think you'll have a conflict or have a question, please let me know.

Players 6 and 12 are tenured Geeks with experience in participating in passes.

Note the first player is Thomas and he lives in Norway.  His turn will be played virtually (Thomas, the final line up of cigars will be available by 11:59PM ET, Sunday.)  Once his takes and puts are updated those specific cigars will get mailed to/from Thomas.  When his cigars arrive, I'll physically mail the entire pass to Clay for his turn.

Clay, and every participant thereafter, will receive the entire collection of cigars.  Once received and before you execute your puts and takes, perform a check against the cigar list on this pass (it is updated after every turn) to ensure all cigars are accounted for and they are in good condition.  Please PM me with any concerns or questions.

I was just wondering how you set value on hard to find cigars.  Like the flying pig?  Original MSRP seems low if it has become a very hard to find cigar.

I found it via Google and am figuring $17.80 for that one.

Feel free to touch base with any of the Vets for help brother,  that's what we are here for.

As far as the FFP, MSRP is fair, I personally may add a buck or two.  But the point of this pass is for the newbs to try sticks they havent and get a grip on passes.  With any of the Unicos patience is key.  If you have to have them today, people pay over $30 @ stick for them.  But just wait it out till you see them MSRP or below and be ready to pounce.  I have not paid over MSRP for any Unico.

Panaceas are definitely not out of your league!  There will be times when the three main sources for pricing do not have a particular brand or vitola (Panacea is a good example).  In such cases, a Google search with a dose of reasonableness will work fine!  :cigarman:

I usually just Google search "cigar name msrp" so in this case "liga flying pig msrp" and the first link that comes up is Halfwheel which states $14.95. Now two things to consider, 1) the article is from 2011 so there may have been a slight price jump since and 2) its a HTF cigar so that would add an additional few $$ in value as StogieDad said.

ETA: Halfwheel should be an acceptable source for msrps but just wait for approval from the pass runner first. Also the newer Undercrown Pig's msrp is $15.30 for reference.

NIC = Nicaragua, DR = Domican Republic

The Reds have a bit of spice to them but the rest I would say are more balanced. The Greens, IMHO, are the best as the PA Broadleaf gives them a flavor that you don't really find anywhere else.

One note guys.  I removed the Liberty (and my Reconquista put) from their coffins and put them in finger bags, then stored the coffin outside the pass box.  For you guys that have not done passes,  this would be the prefferred method as the coffin takes up space in the box, and can damage both the cigar in the coffin and the rest in the box.  Just a friendly note so you know.

The package arrived today in Minnesota and Eric attached a bomb to the outside of it....that's not really playing fair now is it...but thank you very much!

I should hopefully get my puts/takes done tonight. Supposed to snow tonight & tomorrow but I'm not one of those wimpy east coasters, I will get the package out tomorrow so it lands at the next location by the weekend.

I printed out a new Pass Order list. It's changed after Chuck/Cfickter. I left the original pass order sheet in the box.

Everything looks good and the Bovedas are still doing their jobs.

Did my puts and takes and will transition tomorrow when I have the tracking info. Thanks for letting me play!

OK, folks... the pass is MIA at the moment.  Multiple attempts have been made to contact Chip - hopefully, he'll resurface soon and all is well with him.

If I've not heard from Chip by a week from Friday (April 3) I'll get the pass back on track for the balance of the participants with a newly seeded box.

Write the name of the cigar on a strip of paper and put it in the finger bag with the cigar... Good to go!
