A comprehensive list of the cigars that it contains is on page 7 of the thread.

We will do monthly prize drawings as follows...
You will receive one entry per contribution to the thread (posts with a purpose, even if it's just a "congrats!" to someone else, etc)
You will receive double the entries IF you have hit a weight loss checkpoint that month. Checkpoints are as follows...
March 1 - 2% total loss
April 1 - 4% total loss
May 1 - 5.5% total loss
June - 7% total loss
July 1- 8.5% total loss
August 1 - Final Deadline for 10% total loss.
The top 3 competitors will receive 5 additional chances. Monthly weigh-ins will be sent via PM to me. Just PM your current weight when I remind you, no need for pictures, the monthly weigh ins will be on the honor system.
Nice Mike. I would love to get in on this. Can I wear my socks in the photo, lol

. If you lose at least 10% of your starting body weight by the end of the 6 months, your name will be put into a drawing for the prize pack.
If I lose less than 10% of my starting weight, I will throw together a 5'er of some amazing smokes (not stuff I have listed for sale) for the person that has lost the most weight. Davidoff, AVO, and Padron will be at this boxing up party :dancing: - maybe even some isom from 2000!

I don't know about that. I'll take anything I can. I lost almost 40lbs last summer and I got a bad feeling I have put at least 15lbs back. Haven't checked a scale yet because I don't want to know.
Damn you XBOX ONE, I got that around September and that's when it went south for me.

A couple things...
You can send your initial weigh in photo anytime before February 1st. The final deadline will not change based on your submission date, so if you get it in early you have a little extra time to get the weight off.
I will not be accepting final weigh in photos until 2 weeks before the final deadline, so if you lose 10% in 3 months, that's great, but now you have to keep it off (or lose some more) to get in on the prize drawing.
Lastly, we've got our first donation for a monthly prize! So be watching the thread for details on that.

I would also suggest signing up for http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ honestly, it's a pain in the ass to track everything you eat but this app will make you think about what you're eating because you do need to enter it all in. It'll calculate your daily calorie amount based on the goals you put in. It really is a great app, just requires some work, but getting into shape requires work so what's another 10-15 minutes?
Count me in Mike.

So what is everybody doing to try and shed the lbs?
I'll be following a carb cycling approach, and counting calories. Like ninfiction said, it can be a pain to track everything, but it keeps you honest, especially when you are eating out somewhere.
I'm planning on slimfast and more exercise. It worked well for me in the past because it's fairly planned out for you already, nothing really to prepare. The first month is the hardest while your stomach adjusts to less food, after that it's managable...

Eat LESS
Drink LESS (Alcohol)
Drink MORE Water
Exercise MORE
Easy Peasy right!!!
chicken and more fish. Tracking #'s is key for me and Lots of water.
Less snacking especially after dinner.
If snacking, snack on a piece of fruit or carrots
Trying to track calories on that fit site but not sure how long I'll be able to keep up with it.
More exercise
We've got 3 confirmed prize packs for the monthly prizes, and a line out for a possible 4th! Thanks to those of you that have contributed so far!
My biggest vice is leaving for lunch everyday during work and driving thru a fast food joint. I'd gone about a week until yesterday, my body wasn't liking going without the chemicals.
Sounds stupid, but I have a Jillian Micheals dvd called 30 Day Shred. It's interval training, mix of cardio and weights, you just need some 3lb dumbells to start, doesn't seem like much but trust me, unless you lift the 3 lbs will cause pain.
You can find the videos on youtube, the girls are hot so that helps and it's things like jumping jacks, push ups, squats, some ab stuff. It really does work if you can stick with it. It's only about 25 minutes including the stretching so it's quick. Has 3 levels, you're supposed to do each level for 10 straight days. It's tough, when I get started I usually do every other day until my body can handle it and I don't feel like my heart is going to explode.
Push yourself but take it easy, injuries won't do you anygood.
I just plan to change my bad eating habits and focus more on a bit less red meat and more fish & chicken.
Eat Less + Move More
I am going to increase my juicing, subbing juice for meals. Snack on healthy items, drink plenty of water, reduce (not eliminate!) my coffee and ice cream consumption, and not eat after 6pm during the week. Toss in some exercise, a bit of laughter, some cigars, and the occasional chocolate treat, and I am on the way to shedding my "baby fat"!! :shy:

How is the prize pack thing working? I think I could come up with a few cigars... :shy:
I bought an ebook not long ago geared towards eating to perform since I am also trying to maintain/gain strength while dropping the weight. The guy that wrote has a PHD in this stuff, so he's not just some 'diet guru' and he put this chart in the book. It compares the importance of each aspect of 'dieting' as far as effect on body composition.
(http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y374/kmc06005/Diet_zps208801de.png) (http://s1031.photobucket.com/user/kmc06005/media/Diet_zps208801de.png.html)
As you can see how much you eat (calories) is the most important thing, with the second being macro-nutrient profile of those calories, meaning you need to have macro-nutrient goals for your day (protein/carbs/fats) and try to hit those goals within your caloric intake.
What I find interesting is how low on the totem pole the types of food you eat is (Food composition). While completely agree that you shouldn't be consistently eating cake and cookies, it is more important to not overeat.
In other words you can gain weight eating 5000 calories of grilled chicken and broccoli, and lose weight eating 2000 calories of ice cream. While these are extreme, if not impossible, examples, it has helped me put things in perspective as far as dieting goes. I used this last year when I dropped the initial 50 lbs, and found it easier to keep (most) of it off, because I really didn't change much about what I was eating other than how much I was eating. So I was able to occasionally indulge on my favorite treats if they fell beneath my caloric and macro-nutrient goals.

Just PM if you are willing to send a 5er out at the end of one month. I am still thinking of the best way to do the contest, but I want it to be based on participation and support in the thread, not success, or monthly weigh ins or anything like that.
I'm thinking at the end of the month I will place each competitors name in a hat based on how many times they have posted in the thread that month with 'meaningful' posts. (ie: no post whoring at the end for extra entries).
I'm hoping this may keep the interaction/support/motivation up.
I've been on some sort of a diet most of adult life  . So I'm going to make my own that I hope works for me low carb, good protein, etc..... I'm not much of a drinker so that will be no problem. But portion control is my big thing if it's good I've got to have it all :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: it doesn't matter what meal it is.

Lol here I thought my scale was odd because it would waver by 1 or 3 lbs every 5 minutes but that one is something else.
Appreciate the chart Mike, it really is as simple as burning more fuel than you put into the tank...or putting in less fuel than you're going to burn.

Excellent! I dig the idea for the monthly, should be good motivation to keep everyone involved.
Great set up Mike!
Here is my pick Mike. Also got you, and 3 others on MFP.
Mine
John, that reminds me. I went out last year and bought me a digital scale at Walmart for cheap money because I couldn't read the manual one without my glasses on. I usually weigh in before a shower, so that is why I don't have them on.
I'm in on this, i see a couple of us are on MFP. Does anyone on here have a fitbit?
My wife got me a fitbit for Christmas. It's the flex I believe, just an activity tracker. I like that it syncs with my fitness pal, not sure how good it'll be for tracking things like weight lifting since it only tracks steps. It has been a constant reminder to stay on track though and I like the detail it provides of my sleep patterns.
If I were to buy one myself I might have upgraded to one with a heart rate monitor but this one is doing it's job. Had to stop wearing it in the shower because I would end up with a ton of "steps" must be tracking arm movements for steps.
I have the flex as well, I had no idea it syncs with MFP! As far add weights and other exercise, you can log it in the app

Luckily no glasses or contacts here. Only issue I had was the flash kind of messing up the top visual part. I'll have to look into a digital one. I think they are probably more accurate.
I just went and bought the fitbit scale because of this... damn enablers...

:lmao: Too damn cold to walk around without socks!
Are you trying to cover up that Drew Estate tattoo on top of your foot until you get it "touched up" with the Swisher logo above?
:lmao: Yea, that's it. :lmao:
Here goes my picture. I have put on 60 pounds in the last 3.5 years since I moved to Pittsburgh (weighed 170 when I moved). Time to get rid of some of this weight.

Nice job on the weigh in yesterday Mike.
I'm on day 9 of tracking my food on myfitnesspal. It's not entirely accurate I don't think but we'll see where I end up the end of the week.
I'll get a pic posted soon.

Pats fan here. I'd really like to see Brady get a fourth.
not gonna participate in this one, but for you guys that are, in the weight lifting world/weight loss world, its a pretty good trick, to try to eat your goal weight in protein per day. I.E. if you want to weigh say 250 lbs, try to eat that much in protein in grams per day. I tried this when I was working out alot, and dropped 7 lbs in a week!! Learned this little trick from a person that worked at a max muscle.
You can also subsidize your protein with protein shakes, its not like you have to eat a whole bunch of chicken every day!

I didn't know this about eating protein in grams to the amount you would like to weigh. Thanks for the info!

great app. i used it and lost just over 65 lbs in two years last year and the year before. calories in verses calories out is the trick. i also wore a Fitbit and still do. very motivating. one good thing my new health insurance knocks a little over $200 a month off if i wear one so it worked out even better.
Finally got caught up with the whole thread. Pretty cool of you Mike for organizing. I'm not gonna participate but cheers to all of you that do. Wonder if we could get some sort of excerise program to help motivate those of us that are trying to get back on that horse. I'm pretty active working out on and off for the past five years or so. Spin classes and weights on and off and I just bought a rower to supplement.

I laid off of lifting regularly for about 6 years, and that is when I put on all the excessive weight. I contribute most of my weight loss last year to just lifting regularly again. Unfortunately I did not lose near enough. The thing that keeps me going is setting goals. Once I hit a 500 lb bench, it immediately became old news, now I want 545 or 550, then 565, then 585, then 600.
Those goals keep me in the gym (which happens to be in my garage) 3 or 4 days a week. Unfortunately when I was getting caught up in hitting 500 this last fall/winter I let myself over eat because my strength goes up the more I eat, but I have resolved to just maintain/gain a little until I get to my goal weight.
I would be interested in getting in on this one. I read through the whole thread. I don't have a digital scale, I do have an old school dr office scale here though. Would that work for the pic? I could stand to lose some table muscle for sure. Maybe this would give me some motivation to lose weight.

Diet nuggets, right?
OK so Mike gives me Fire-Cured  My favorite cigar- not! My target is to get into an old swim suit for scallop season this summer. Hey I will give it a shot and see if I can be competitive with this one, never been one for diets so definitely a first for me.
And for Brad- no Mcnuggets here, how about a Grouper filet right off the boat

Only 470 calories, I may have 20 for dinner
I'll take 20. I actually had burger and fries tonight. Just got back from a wake and wasn't being very smart about food tonight.
By the way give yourself a cheat day once and a while, no need starving yourself.
I agree with the cheat day. Mine will be this weekend as my parents are coming to town to visit.
Usually my "cheat days" are still within my caloric allowance, because if I know I'll be having a big meal, I eat just enough to get me to the meal beforehand.
I had a bad diet day after a good day in the gym. Too much temptation around the house today. My son had his cousins over for a sleepover.
Quotemike.casey - 1/17/2015 10:38 PM I had a bad diet day after a good day in the gym. Too much temptation around the house today. My son had his cousins over for a sleepover.
Tomorrow is another day Mike. We are only human. Temptations are so hard to resist, luckily I do the grocery shopping so all I have to do is not buy the junk. If it's in the house I'll eat it.
I'm the same way. We haven't been buying any junk but we did for the sleepover snacks and that was enough for me. It's not usually the sweets that get me, it's those damn chips and cheese dip that do me in.
I am the grocery shopper in the family also. It seems to be easier to make better choices at the store so you don't have the bad choices in the cupboard. LOL
I have the same problem with the kids liking tostitos and cheese dip. If you like soda, try out the coke zero. It has zero calories but it is soda so it still has sugars. Another thing, if you are like me and hate plain water, try using the drops that make water sweet and can drink a bunch of it. There is a bunch of mixed feelings about the drops, but I can easily drink my water amounts daily with these. I currently have the powerade ones but I have tried the walmart, target brands and Milo.
I'll have to try the drops, I use sugar free lemonade quite a bit, but I don't mind plain water so I drink a ton of that as well. As far as soda, I'll have a Diet Mtn. Dew with dinner.
Today and Superbowl will be really bad days.
Alright, getting my slim-fast on starting today. Starting off at 265.
Dropped 6 lbs prior to leaving for Chapel Hill to visit family. Yesterday was bad. Returning home tomorrow. Hoping for the best upon weighing in!!
Heading out to Raleigh today to check out Empire cigars. Hopefully they'll have some goodies that won't make me fatter!
Down 5! :dancing:
I've been dragging my feet will get my pic up this weekend.
I'm back on the wagon, but I saved enough calories today to have a nice big prime rib for dinner at a local place. Of course I couldn't have any of my side dishes so the kids got those.
I fasted all day today to save up for Friday Night Fish Fry at a local place tonight.
Only thing I had all day before dinner was 3 cigars and 2 cups of coffee.
Was down 10, and had a bad day yesterday so I put 2 back on
Was down 8.5 lbs but had a BAD Saturday night. Gained 2 back. Getting back on the horsey.
I was down 8 on Saturday and won't check again for a few days, fluctuations are hard to go by.
Once or twice a week on the scale is enough to try to stay consistent for me.
I've been crazy busy, but will get my pic up sometime this week.

Good going Kent, that is great. I will put some better effort into this after the Superbowl. They say weigh yourself once a week, because checking too many times or some people check everyday will drive you crazy. Weight will fluctuate daily depending on water weight. I can't wait for nice weather, to be able to stay outside and not be cooped up being lazy in the house.

X2 Was sick for 9 days with some sort of flu bug. Got better for a week. Now in day 2 of a nasty cold. Kinda pissed actually. Can't think about smoking a cigar in my condition. Ready for spring myself!
Apparently I'm going the wrong direction here... At least that's what my scale tells me... I'm getting a little pissed.
Beat the deadline...barely! Sorry for the delay Mike, I've been busy putting on some extra weight, at least that's what my scale told me today. Damn holidays!! :shy:

Brian, are your nails painted, and you're wearing a toe ring?
Brian it's going to be hard to claim that you're faking entries with all that you've got going on with those feet.
I thoroughly enjoy the pig tat. Going to be a long time, if ever, that I run out of other space and resort to tattooing my feet though...and I hate my feet so not drawing attention them is ideal.
Quick update:
Officially the contest starts on Sunday, I have received 11 of 15 entries, so if you haven't submitted yet please hurry if you still want to participate.
No weigh ins from the following

If any of you believe this is a mistake, and I have overlooked your entry, please let me know.
In other news I'll be posting a picture of the final prize pack on Monday!
Here is my weigh in. My goal is to stabilize under 210 by end of year.
Good luck everyone! All us geeks should be able to shed a couple hundred pounds off this site.
I think to keep the incentive going I'm going to enjoy an extra cigar every 10 pounds lost...
So pig out tonight, tomorrow its all over. At least that is what I am telling myself. Good luck to everyone giving it a shot

So how are we all doing, I am still hangin tough at 10 lbs down, today will probably be my first "cheat day".
Then back at it tomorrow.
:goodluck: my friends
As of Friday I was down 2 from my weigh in. Need to get my ass in gear this week and make some real headway.
I joined the gym and finally starting to swing the right way.
I'm down 4 pounds since my initial weigh in, but I think I'm even from my weight on Feb first... lol
I had a cheat weekend in Cambria with plenty of wine tasting (and managed to get one cigar in before the rain hit), but I'm back on the horse and it looks like I held even at 7 pounds down.
Recovered nicely after a Saturday night of Victory Beer, and Garlic Parmesan wings at the brewery followed by cards (Euchre) and Bourbon. Old habits die HARD!
Down 9 total. Hoping for a couple more by tomorrow. Good day today
Only bitch is I haven't had a cigar in 2 weeks. Getting over a bout with Bronchitis.......soon
I haven't had a great Feb so far, but I've got it turned around for a few days running now. I got pretty burned out tracking everything, so I'm just trying to make better choices and focus on more traditionally healthy foods.
Starting to get it done right. Hoping the almost 4 hours shoveling the roof yesterday burnt some good calories and not just hurting my back. Got my parents roof to do this weekend, roofs are starting to collapse and have massive ice dams.
C'mon everybody we can all do this, replace a few meals a week with an extra cigar  :lmao:

What I'm doing, I may not lose too much weight, but I will lose fat!

I've been making some good progress for the last couple weeks. I'm (back) down to 10 lbs net loss, and I'm feeling as strong as ever. It's funny how eating quality foods helps everything.
I lost 5 pounds Monday night... Not in a good way... but maybe ill keep it off...lol
Alright guys, exactly one week left in February, make it count!
Still sitting around the 12 lb loss but its way better than a 12 pound gain. Gonna kick it in gear now with my new plan.
Last few days of the month everyone... Make that final push!!!!
I've been on the Yo-Yo lately
Was down 13.5 lbs at one point. Then shot up 6. Now at 9 down. Will push to lower the bar this week.
Football score of 14 for me! :dancing:
Afraid I am at a standstill to date, but I have a new strategy. I will be back to work in a few weeks and should produce some results!
I'm down 2 as of this morning, had been down 4, but I'm super lazy....also my goal is only 20 lbs so if I can get back to 4 down this week not doing too bad.
The rest of you guys are killing it though. Keep it up!

Great job guys! Good to see you're still killing it.
I took a small step and went under 200 this morning. I was happy but I know I could do more.

What are we supposed to send in? Just a pic of us on the scale? I'm a bit out of the loop on how the competition is working.
I think he just wants a PM of your weigh in, no picture needed on the monthlys...

A comprehensive list of the cigars that it contains is on page 7 of the thread.
------------------
We will do monthly prize drawings as follows...
Here is my March 1 weigh in. I've lost 6 pounds so far this year. To make my goal, I need to loose 3 - 4 pounds per month all year long, so I am on track to make my goal. Y'all keep loosing !!

Well, too bad this is not a weight gain contest! I went up, but to be honest, I have not yet begun to fight the fat. Time for motivation!
Alright guys, we have a winner, but I am waiting on confirmation from a prize sponsor before posting.
And the winner is....
GARY (Headfirst)!!!
(http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y374/kmc06005/cgfeb2_zpsb4wtcate.jpg) (http://s1031.photobucket.com/user/kmc06005/media/cgfeb2_zpsb4wtcate.jpg.html)
It's no surprise as Gary had 33 entries from 14 posts (in the month of feb) and landed in the top 3, by hitting his goal and then some!
Brian (Nirab) will be sending out the inaugural monthly prize at his earliest convenience, please be sure to post here, and leave him feedback once you have received the prize.
Gary congrats on the win and on the weight loss.
Whoa!! Now that's a great shot in the arm to keep on trucking. And a prize pack coming from nirab?! Maybe there will be some Texas-based boutiques in there! :dancing:
I'll definitely post and leave feedback.
This contest gave me the extra kick in the pants I needed to get losing and keep it up. And I won't be letting up boys, I want that motherload waiting at the end too, you're gonna have to take it from me!
Congrats and Way to Go Brother :dancing:

So after a little CSI Pasadena mini-episode (somehow FedEx "corrected" the address to somewhere 5 miles away, I think I lost another pound chasing this package down!), I got my prize pack from nirab and somehow I knew he had a Phd in Geek Math and sent a hitchhiker. Best part is, you won't gain weight even if you consume the whole prize pack. Cigars have to be the best non caloric treat
Planning on going out for a long run tomorrow to burn some serious calories and prepare for a 1/2 marathon in a couple weeks. I'm way behind schedule on training.
Hey all!!! How is everyone doing with the weight loss goals? I am creeping ever so close to replacing the 3 with a 2 as the first number in my weight. Getting tougher but still trying to keep on pushing. Gonna be worth it.

Regaining focus after falling off the wagon.
My ultimate goal is to see a 2 instead of a 3 by August 1st When I head to San Fran for vacation.
Been hitting the gym, and starting to see results.
I've hit an absolute brick wall right at 20 pounds, I've been there for weeks now and it's pissing me off. When the results don't keep going it gets harder to keep at it. But it feels good to be tightening belts to 2 holes tighter than I used to, and now that's feeling a little loose, woohoo! Gotta push past this wall somehow...
If you working out you'll gain some muscle mass and still burn fat. Since muscle is heavier than fat it will appear to not be losing weight but inches will still come off...
Good luck

I have been doing strength exercises but I had been doing that since day 1 and still lost the first 18 pounds very fast. My problem is finding time for cardio exercise, I'm not doing that and I know that is what will help me lose fastest...
Nice losses you guys. Keep up the great work.
couple more days left until the end of the month. Make the final push!
I really want to replace that 3 with a 2 by April 1. Getting tougher.
I had a physical setback last weekend. I can't run because I have capsulitis in my right foot, essentially my second toe joint to the foot is messed up and last weekend it flared up. So my foot is swollen and hurts and the capsulitis makes it feel like I have a permanent rock stuck in my shoe right at the ball of my feet...long story short haven't done jack this week which made it easy to put back on the few lbs I had lost.
Woe is me....but you guys are rocking it, keep it up, you'll all start losing again.
I haven't weighed in since the original weigh in, partly because I know I didn't lose shyt
On a good note I was back to work on Monday, and the last 3 days I worked my @$$ off! I will weigh in in a couple of weeks to see where I am at

I've been struggling too... I'm changing up my lifting for the next 8 weeks working in the higher rep ranges. Hopefully, that will help things.
Mike, You ever heard of a program called 5-3-1 by Jim Wendler. When I was lifting a couple years ago I used this program, it's mainly for power lifting. 4 days a week, military, bench, squat and dead lift with an auxilary "lift" each day (pullups, dips, crunches etc) it's a 4 week cycle including a deload week. I did the program for over a year and was able to increase my numbers each cycle...granted i'm not/wasn't the strongest guy so it was easy to make gains.
Just an idea if you're looking to mix it up. The book can be had for about $25, but you can find workout calculators all over online.

Yeah man, I ran 531 for about 6 months when I got back into about 2 years ago. I like it, and think it's a great routine for someone looking to be in generally good shape and strong. Right now I've got some pretty lofty goals when it comes to the bench press so I do a more specialized routine.
My ultimate goal is 622 at 275 lb bodyweight. Which will be enough for the all time drug tested world record. It's a pretty lofty goal, but I need something big to shoot for long term to stay motivated. I'm a little less than 100 lbs away of both of those right now.

I put together a video each week with some commentary. It's not really for anyone other than myself, but I figure in a few years it will be cool to look back at the process, and all the work I put in.
I know I have lost some, I am on the USPS weight loss program. Some of my fat @$$ is being converted to muscle  I will weigh in soon but have been drinking water like a camel in the morning before I get home
I'll get that prize pack out today or tomorrow Steve, things have been getting crazy busy lately.
I find it amazing that you are benching more than any of us weigh and more than twice what some of us weigh.

Enjoy Steve! Keep working at those weights!
Down 24, just about back to my college weight, and just a few pounds from the 10% marker. :dancing: :dancing:
How's everyone else doing?
I'm stuck at 28-29 lbs lost, gotta make 30 sooooooooon.
Let's hear from everyone :bigthumbs:
Nice! I wouldn't mind being stuck at 28. I was stuck at 20 for weeks, keep pushing man, you'll break through...
You guys are killing it. I'm still dealing with foot issues and haven't been able to do jack, but I am eating cleaner and I'm down about 4lbs this month. i'm hoping for a few more before the end of the month. Might have to find myself a bicylce so I can do something with no impact.
I'm traveling this week so it's been kind of hard to eat real good... Though i haven't been snacking which is a plus.
Great job guys.
Mentally, I am really working at losing weight...its actually doing something about it that remains a challenge!

Thanks man. At least something is moving in the right direction for me.
I actually got a new toy yesterday called a "benchdaddy" it's purpose is to assist the lift (kind of like a weak bench press shirt if you're familiar), while letting you overload your muscles. Anyway, long story short, I did 600 with it last night.
The vid is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-P82HzboT7M

WASSUP Everybody? End of the month is nearly upon us, how is everyone doin?
My weight loss has slowed a bit but still melting away some lard. LOL
This morning I had to punch a new hole in my belt before work to keep my pants up over my arse. :dancing:
Let's all keep moving forward guys. :rocker: :goodluck:
It's been a bad couple of weeks so i'll be lucky if i'm down any this month. I'll find out in a couple of days.
I'm still moving down, but it's slow going these days. With 4 kids the easter candy that is still lurking around here is NOT helping me.
Looks like Kent needs a new belt! Spent the last month turning fat into some muscle. Still lost 5 lbs so I won't complain. A lot of you are doing awesome, keep it up !
Great job Kent!
I actually had to move in a hole on my lifting belt today, so I'm pretty pumped up about that.

Ended up 6 down as of this morning. Could be doing better but I'm happy, that's about 30% of my goal of 22lbs.
My wheel is finally feeling better, time to kick it back in gear and do some real damage this month.
Still at 294.4 and in a bit of a holding pattern but damn happy. :dancing:

Good Job brother
Well I actually managed to RUN today it was only 1/2 mile but I haven't been able to run without severe knee pain in years. I walked 1.5 and ran .5 this afternoon and it felt awesome. And for the record it is a lot easier to smoke a cigar while walking than it is when running, but I managed. :rocker:
Ha ha, the visual of guy running with a cigar, that's hard core Kent.
It is amazing how different the legs and joints feel with the shed weight gone.
I've been learning tennis on Sundays and that's helped me to continue losing weight past that 20 pound wall I was at. I'm now just 1/2 pound from that 10% marker. :dancing:
Awesome job Gary!

I had cartilage cut out of my left knee 15-20 years ago and it has come back with a painful force for the past several years. This weight loss is helping I am sure of that. Tennis is out of the question I believe for quite awhile for me. Slow and easy.

I think I've come to the realization today that I actually need to get serious about losing weight. I have no problem going up or down 5-6 lbs, the problem is that I go up as easily as I go down and it sdoesn't stay down....mainly becuase I only make changes for a few days at a time.
I'm hovering between 195-200 lbs currently and should be 170-175. 20-25 lbs doesn't seem like a whole hell of lot, especially when a few of you guys have already lost that or more since we started here.
I have zero discipline, I pack a salad for lucnh then I got grab some fast food instead anyway, my foot finally feels better but I still use it as an excuse to not start exercising...I'll start tomorrow I tell myself..or Monday.
Sorry just venting, not happy that I haven't made a real effort to this point.
How you guys doing?

I can relate on everything you said.
I got within 0.1 pounds of 10% down on Tuesday (which would be 26.5 pounds lost). Then someone had to go and bring a boat load of Cuban pastries into the office yesterday, that place is an Achilles Heel to my willpower. They're gone now so I'm back on that saddle...I gotta catch back up to Kent!
It's been great losing all that weight, I've lost a couple inches in the waist for sure. But lately I've realized it's probably half of what I should lose. I hope I can at least get to 35 pounds off by the time the contest ends. I'd like to keep doing what I'm doing until the holidays.
And you've won so many cigars lately that this contest probably isn't providing the same added motivation as it is me. Without this contest I don't think I'd have been trying this hard to lose weight...
I see some good numbers geeks, keep up the great work. As for me I went totally the wrong direction with life and family issues stressing me out the last few months, I know its no excuse and I am not the proudest to say I actually put on just about 6 pounds. I started to kick my own arse about this and been trying to step it up. Glad to say I have lost 5 of those pounds already and going to put my best effort going forward.
:bigthumbs:
about the only thing I've lost in this contest is my memory!

I'm thinking about picking up the mantle from Mike when this one ends to extend this through November 1st. But once the holidays hit I gotta have my reward for dieting all year long! Halloween candy followed by Thanksgiving yumminess with the family recipe Christmas cookies close behind...then I'll get back on this wagon!
Congrats to all of you with big numbers on weight loss! I am still not loosing a lot, most is going from fat to muscle after working for the last 2 months. Eventually that will flip around and loose some actual weight

I however deliberately sent my weigh in prior to my annual two day company retreat in Santa Barbara. I didn't feel hunger for about 3 days, terrible binge on hotel catering! Looks like the damage may be on the order of a couple pounds, back to the grind.
On the positive side I went exploring at the local cigar shops up there and found an interesting shaggy foot smoke rolled for that particular shop. Picked one up, we'll see how it is. If it's a keeper I'll be back next year to buy some more and maybe they'll pop up here and there in passes... :smoker2:

Awesome job Kent... I ran for about 3.5 miles and then walked for about 1.5 yesterday... Plan was to do the same today but my Father's Day is getting rained out. I feel like I'm the Pacific North West. I think we have gotten 15+ inches in the month of June already.
Finally back to my weight before the 1st weekend of June. Bike ride yesterday and tennis tonight, onward and downward I hope...

Excellent brother :dancing:
I crossed the 40 lb barrier last Friday, and after a little cheating on Father's day weekend it's been just falling off. I'm gunning for 50 in no more than 2 weeks. Wish me luck!
Giver Hell Mike :dancing:
A weeks worth of vacation has kicked my arse, Back on track this week
For starting out kind of slow you're killing it Mike. How much is it affecting your lifting? Obviously getting extra weight off is better but is it hurting your maxes?
Wow Mike, way to go! I've leveled off lately...
Thanks guys, this thread had been huge for me. Easily worth the sticks.
@ninfiction I don't think it's hurt my maximal strength much, but the calorie restriction has affected my training sessions. I did set a couple PRs lately 455x5 bench being one, but I'm not progressing anywhere near the rate I was before, and bad days in the gym are more common.
Mike,
455 bench still sounds absolutely crazy to me... Great job!
Last month guys, time to pour it on.
I Gotta make July better than June was, only dropped barely over a pound.
I managed to put a few lbs on so you're still doing better than I Kent.
Down 2lbs, watch out!! :lmao:
Send those weights in fellas!!!
235, an even 30 down, but only 1/2 pound of progress, gotta get a little more disciplined for the home stretch!
Weight sent in Mike. Got a few pounds off this month, looking to keep it going.
Alright guys, had to do a hand tally and old fashioned drawing (while I was in a profession development training, lol) again this month, but we have a winner....
And the winner is...
ninfiction

I'm contacting the prize sponsor right now. Congrats!
congrats!
:bigthumbs:
Oh wow, not sure I've earned this at all, but I have enjoyed watching you guys drop the pounds!
Congrats Brian
Mike I already told Brian cigars will go out next week when i get back in town.
2 weeks left
Crunch time
So Mike how many people thus far are in the running for the prize pack? :?:

I know I'm out, three of you guys have some impressive numbers. Best of luck to all you.

Right off hand I'm thinking just 2, but I'm not 100% sure. You guys can start sending in your official final weight any time. Just use the same weigh in word as last time.
And since I was officially down 50 lbs this morning, I'm throwing some more cigars into the prize pack to celebrate!

YOU DA MAN MIKE :bigthumbs:
50 pounds??!! Wow Mike, maybe you should reward yourself with the prize pack, way to go!
Kent, want to split the prize pack and call it a joint victory?
Seriously though, good luck everyone, and thanks again Mike for this contest, I wouldn't have lost this weight without the extra motivation and encouragement. :bigthumbs:
Awesome Job Mike, Kent and Gary for making your goals!
I just signed up for an 8 week deal thru work, maybe that'll get me moving some more.
Mike,
I'm assuming you want a final weigh in picture with the nicknames given at the beginning. How do you want to receive these? I presume the idea is to eliminate bias so I suppose we shouldn't post them in this thread or PM you directly, or does it matter?
:?:
I concede...I'm gonna go eat some ice cream...and lot's of it!!!!!!
Congrats to the geeks who were able to stick with this, way to stay dedicated!!!!! :bigthumbs: :bigthumbs:
:lmao: Is this where the term "concession" stand comes from? Enjoy the ice cream, but please at least scoop it into a bowl, pretend like you're not going to eat the whole gallon!
I'm still pushing for 40 by months end, not sure if I will make it but giving it a hell of a shot.
I wish there wasn't ice cream in my freezer tho LOL
Man I thought you were already there Kent, you've been shedding the weight so fast...I'm hoping to stay somewhere above 30 pounds, July has not been as disciplined a month as it should be, too many holidays and birthdays, etc, I'm getting used to eating again :banghead:
Congrats to Mike, 50 lbs is awesome, and a bunch of you lost some serious weight as well! I have lost close to 20 lbs since this started, a lot of it went from fat to muscle with me going back to work at the USPS. I don't have any ice cream in the freezer, but the wife just left to get me some Wings so I will enjoy them after my Whiskey with a beer chaser and an Undercrown. cheers!
Nice work man, 20 pounds is really good, especially if you bulked up a bit in the process. :bigthumbs:
Haven't checked this thread in a while. WOW!
Way to go guys.
I've only recently got back in the right frame of mind. I too concede!
Still going to try and hit my initial goal of getting below 3 bills at some later date....and then continue from there.

I'm still hanging right around 35-38 lbs down, having a tough time getting past that.
I also have to admit July has not been as disciplined for me either, weather is nice and everything tastes better off the grill.
Good luck you guys those are all so impressive. I myself am out of the running, I'm down just shy of 10lbs from starting weight and after putting on weight and loosing that too I am at 20lbs lost.
It was fun watching this thread and getting motivated, just because this contest will end shortly I'm not giving up, I have a goal of 20 more pounds set by my doctor.
Still over a week to go guys, keep pushing and best of luck everyone.
In the last lap of this race fellas, give er hell
This will most likely be my lunch all week
Way to go Kent!!!!

A lot of salads = a lot of trips to the can later :)
Well somehow I won the prize pack for June and received Johncw's prize pack today. He included a couple favorites and a couple that are new to me and look delicious. Thanks John!
Illusione Rex
Oliva V Double Robusto
LasCalaveras 2015 LC50
EH Cigars Vida Viva
Tatuaje Black Label Corona Gorda
I feel very undeserving as I've only lost a couple lbs. Some of you guys are killing it though, keep up the good work!
Nice prize pack.
If you smoke that Edgar Hoil on an empty stomach and don't loose yesterday's breakfast, lunch and diner, I can almost guarantee you won't be eating for the rest of that day.
That's a few more pounds off right there

Really great job Kent!

Inspiring Kent.... Awesome job!!!
Nice work Kent! :bigthumbs:
Alright guys, it looks like this is a wrap. I've got 2 final weigh ins from the 2 that hit their 10% goal. Since we've had some contributions to the final prize a couple times there are about 35 or 40 cigars in there, what do you guys think about me throwing in a few more and sending you each 25? Or do you want me to draw for the prize as it is now?
Great job all 3 of you. Thanks for putting this together Mike. Even though I only lost a couple lbs it was fun to be a part of and has me thinking...now if i could just get off my lazy a$$.

I would be good with splitting the wealth with another fine geek.
Either way works for me.
Thanks again for this Mike :rocker:

I'm not one of them but I personally think those two should split. Success and 25 cigars, can't complain there. Congrats guys.
Mike, I'd love to split the pot since Kent is willing, joint victory!!
And congrats on your killer weight loss too!
Quotemike.casey - 1/9/2015 9:04 AM
So what is everybody doing to try and shed the lbs?
I'll be following a carb cycling approach, and counting calories. Like ninfiction said, it can be a pain to track everything, but it keeps you honest, especially when you are eating out somewhere.
I somehow missed this post back in January
My biggest help was starting Thrive and I'm not stopping now. I am gonna continue to try to hit my HS graduating weight of 250 lbs within the next year.
Any of you that follow me on FB have probably seen this but if anyone is internested here ya go
www.kentpaulson.le-vel.com/industryshift
congrats to all you geeks!
I'll be picking up some medium flat rate boxes today, and hopefully have them sent out this week.

Thank you to everyone that participated, it had the desired result for me, and I do appreciate it.
Even with sending out double the original prize I still lost more than a pound per cigar that left my humi.:dancing:
I may have to do a couple bombing runs to reach my goal.
Awesome job on the contest Mike!
This was a great and inspiring contest to read through, and one that I'd love to be a part of next year if you guys consider doing it again!
WOWZERS!!!!!!!!!! I Got my prize pack today. Thanks a ton Brother.
I'm ready to shoot for 40 more

Me too, my doc told me 20 more lbs would be ideal for a guy my size, since then I've lost 7 of that. But I really would like to see another 35 lbs which I don't think I have been that weight since freshman year in high school.

Great job running this "contest" Mike. It was great watching some of you guys lose some of those extra lbs.
and hell of a prize pack there, very nice! Should help get thru your buying freeze Kent lol
great job dudes. I lost 65 a few years back and it's tough to keep it off but looking back at how great I felt about finally getting there is my motivation.
Congratulations to all the thinner brothers
Post office attempted delivery to my office Saturday and I thought for sure they'd re-attempt today, so no pic today as promised, hopefully tomorrow...

They found out what's in the box and spent all weekend smoking them. Better change this thread to cigar loss 2015. Hopefully you do get them today.
Ha ha, that's always in the back of my mind when something fishy happens with the shipping! :lmao:
Yeah, hopefully today...
They made it today. Wow Mike, this was an impressive package to open, thank you very much for running this contest. Honestly, the prospect of winning this prize really got my butt in gear 6 months ago to lose some weight. The double reward of the weight lost and the big pile of NICE sticks you sent is overwhelming. Thanks again.
Very generous prize packs Mike. Great selections!
Wow that is a nice stack sent Mike.
It's always nice when they all reach their destination in tact. Enjoy and congrats to the winners! Thank you to everyone that made this work!!!
Bumping this thread to say that I was down to 315 this morning. That's 60lbs so far.
That's spectacular Mike! Guess the idea of running a contest to get motivated has worked. I saw Kent this past weekend and he's looking good too.

AWESOME brother. That is fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was staying pretty steady then gained over 7 lbs during vacation and Cigar Palooza
Started back on track this week now. Still shooting for 250.
I'm up about 7 pounds too, need to get back on that horse. Just no momentum now. This helps encourage me to get back to it though, way to go Mike!
