This is a thread generated automatically by the Cigar Pass system to discuss the Cigar Pass named 'Virtual Yankee Gift Exchange'.

Here are the rules for this pass:
Each participant will send the moderator 5 cigars: 2x $5-10 value sticks, 2x $10-15 and 1 Hard to find stick. along with $5.95 to cover shipping (flat rate box)
I would then assign these cigars into lots of 2 (1x $5-10 + 1x $10-15) or 1 hard to find stick and each lot assigned a letter designation. The identity of the packages will be shared with the donator, so that they do not accidentally pull their own contributions.
The participants will be randomized, and starting with the first person, they would choose a package. The cigars in that package will then be revealed and a photo posted by me. The next person would then either choose a new package out of the pile or steal a revealed lot. If stolen, the person who was stolen from gets a turn again to pick or steal. This would go on until all lots are taken.
A lot can only be stolen 3 times before it is frozen and can no longer be taken.
You cannot directly steal back from the person who just stole from you. However, you could be stolen from and through a series of steals get your turn back. Then you are free to steal your package back. Just none directly without something taking place in between.
At the end, everyone will end up with 3 lots (3-6 cigars depending on whether they got the HTFs or not).
I have a Google Speadsheet that will be used to track each package, its contents and how many times it has been taken.
Unfortunately, because of shipping costs, the $5.95 would be limited to US residents. If Non-US geeks want to participate, we would need to work out shipping costs separately.
Also, because of the time that this pass will take, I am limiting it to 12 members. I will accept requests to join until after the 4th of July weekend, and will randomize the sing ups to see who gets in. Still, you must have at least veteran status and no negative pass feedback.

I forgot to say that if me being a Canuck poses any kind of problem as far as participating in this pass, I won't mind and could give my spot (If I get one ;-) ) to a US geek if needed.
The only two issues are speed of getting your cigars to me (we can do this off to the side with some pics as stand ins) and shipping cost. Again, can easily be worked out. So no problem.

It is kind of unfair, as some people will have less chance to get them (as they will be assigned to people who won't choose their own lots). Therefore, I will be adding 12 sticks to the pass so that each person has equal chance to pull a bonus stick (some cigars will be better than others, but that will be random). :angel:

What this delay all comes down to is global warming. It is pretty obvious that the reduction of the polar ice cap and the free roaming range of the polar bear has greatly impacted the the speed of this delivery.

That is correct. Any lot is stealable up to three times. The only restriction is that you cannot steal directly back from the person who stole from you. You can, however, re-steal as long as there was someone's turn between you and there-steal.
Also, bonus cigars are not stealable, but the original lots that they came with are. so if someone stole Jason's pic, they would get the Herrera Esteli Robusto and Illusione 2013 Rose Croix, but not the 3 Reynas.
Jeez I had some hot lots I guess. Kind of fun seeing what I had put in there :whistle:

What I generally see is that some groundwork gets laid down of people choosing from the stack for a bit, then once a certain critical mass is hit, all hell breaks loose and the stealing frenzy begins.

Sequence is interrupted and you pick right away (from the pile or steal). This continues until one from the pile is taken, then the sequence is resumed.

I was just thinking, maybe you could introduce the possibility to swap for geeks stuck with lots they'd trade with geeks in same position. Something like a trading block where lots are put up for trade. Now that I've written it I see how much more work that could give you and realize it could mean we'd still be playing this winter. This is a lot of work. Will be a little while before I attempt it again. I may want to wait until the browsers shake out before I do this again. Firefox and Google spreadsheets were giving me a lot of problems. I may have to do this again using chrome on my side if Firefox and Google don't find some common ground.

Need Tim to transition the pass back to me so that everyone can get their points. He hasn't been on for a couple weeks. Once the pass concludes, I will give everyone their feedback. If he doesn't show up by end of Sept, I will override and transition myself (which I don't want to do, since it doesn't award Tim his points).
