Title: Need A Bigger Humidor Surprise Surprise
Post by: STL_Cohiba on 08/26/2015 11:35 AM
Ok so I have grown out of my 120 ct and I purchased I nice size Rubbermade Tupperdor and have grown out of that quickly. I only have about 145-150 sticks as it stands now but next month I have several orders of cigars coming in and im starting to buy box's. Either I have looked at having something custom built. Or buying one off the shelf. I want it to hold Min of 500 Cigars 2-300 loose and boxes and max out at about 1000 maybe 1500. THis is new territory for me I would appreciate any feedback from our Senior BOTL and SOTL. Coolidors are not completely out of the question. But im willing to spend at least a min of $500-$750

I'm by no means a senior BOTL, still a growing novice, but I got a foot locker humi and it holds about 300 sticks (though it claims 500, which might be true if you load up the trays and block the humidity), has room for boxes, and isn't a massive piece of furniture, and you can find them online for under $150 a piece.  123stores.com had a nice deal on them when I got mine, $130 or something like that.  Humidity holds well and seems to reach the corners of the humidor pretty well, though I have put in some black ice in the corners at the bottom for fear that it doesn't circulate well enough.

Maybe a couple of those will save you some cash and get you what you need...for now.

Let us know what you do get and how you like it.

I scour Craigslist all day everyday and have missed out on a few here and there. I check from her to KC all the way to Chicago. I will try Cigarbid that looks like a great deal to that for less than a grand

123 sure does have a lot of stuff to look at and a huge selection of humidors thank you very much. I just want one big piece instead of multiples

Someday when the kids are out I'll have room for a nice tower or something, if you can pull off a tower go for it! :bigthumbs:

If you are looking for just one humidor my opinion is that you have to go with a tower that claims to hold at least 2000 . You'll get room for your goal of 1500 and enough room and shelves / trays for both boxes and singles. It won't be too packed and therefore allow better air circulation.

My guess is you'll have to spend a little more than your budgeted amount but there are some good deals are out there on good quality towers. You'll also need a good humidification device and fans if they are not included in the deal.

If I lived in the US, I would have bought one years ago but here in Canada, the towers cost more than double their US price and shipping is just a killer so I am still waiting on a deal and use my many Coolerdors, a Wineador, a few wooden desktop humidors and a few Tupperdors.

I do have to say that keeping RH and Temp levels stable and steady is easiest with a Cooler than with any wooden solution I have tried though. And I have tried many, even very high quality desktops just don't even come close. It's not pretty and you probably would need maybe 3  big coolers for your needs but they are cheap and efficient. It costs me roughly $200 CAD for a big cooler with Heartfelt beads, Spanish cedar lining and about 10-12 SC trays for singles. They are much less when putting one together for boxes since you won't need the trays then.

Hope it helps a bit even though I don't consider myself a Senior BOTL as there are many here with much more experience and I don't just mean they are old

Ohh man I would love to do this at my fathers house. My old room has a two closets the smaller of the two would make for a great humidor.

I completely understand what your saying. I don't mind spending more I just figured to get some feedback from the crew would get the creative juices flowing. Whatever I end up getting will be a sound purchase and Chuck let me on to a 2000 ct tower that could sell for less than $600 on auction. Thank you very much for your feedback. I will say this though your taxes are outrageous but at least you have real Cubans out there compared to what they try and pass along out here

Gonna be awhile before I have a stock like that but once I start buying boxes Ill probably just do a coolidor. You can store many boxes and cigars for less than 100 bux.

If you want one that looks like a nice end table, I have this one.  It holds about 40 boxes in the bottom, and about 200 loose cigars in the giant drawer.  If you decide to get it, sign up for emails from here and he often offers 10-15% off deals a few times per month.

I got lucky and found a tower on craigslist earlier this summer, $300 but I also had to buy a humidifier and fans. Be sure to add in shipping if you go the cbid route, I think it's like $250 on the towers. So far I love it and it's not even close to being full.

Go to Walmart and buy an Igloo cooler or 2 and a container of silica cat litter. You'll have more than enough storage space and spend less than $50. I saw Igloos on sale for $16 the other day. Been using mine for years with great results.

I've been scouring the local classifieds lately looking for a curio cabinet. Figure I can get a nice one and line it with Spanish cedar myself for a few hundred bucks. Then put in an active humidification system like an oasis and mount a thermoelectric cooler to it. I guess I could just go with a Wineador but for a 400 count your looking around $400 before the humidifier.

Some advice from an old guy...go the Igloo/KL route. Doesn't look bitchin'....works like a charm, and saves you a bundle of dough to spend on a ton of cigars! IMHO, of course.

So I have taken some advice from my fellow geeks and have started acquiring. Rubbermaid Tupperware and starting to look for a nice Igloo cooler. My girlfriend was surprised at what I decided to do. My reponce to her was when we get a new house I'm buying a large cabinet as a personal housewarming present and she said deal. So all in all im in a great situation. Now I can start making an extensive list of box's of cigars to buy

I love my two tower humidors I use at home, but I use a large cooler in my office for sample storage. Fortunately you can stack several of them on top of each other quite easily if you need more space! Just glad my own line requires no humidification with another 2000 being delivered in the next couple weeks!
