Cigar Geeks

I just seen this idea on another forum and thought it would be cool to see where everyone on here lives (city not specific address).  I took it a step further and thought it could be a great tool for us to find not only another geek to herf with, but everyone can enter their favorite B&M or Lounge. This could be a great tool for those geeks traveling and looking for someone to herf with and/or somewhere to enjoy a cigar. I started it out with where I'm from and a few B&Ms I frequent. Anyone with this link should be able to edit this map.
   

      Please follow this format

STEP 1: To add your city check the Geek Locations box and for B&Ms check the B&M box on the left side of the map.
STEP 2: Then search your city or B&M in the search bar on the top of the map.   (For those in large cities you can place your own mark on the map. Please do not put it exactly where you live.)
STEP 3: Click on the green marker that shows up on the map.
STEP 4: In this pop-up choose the add to map option.   (Last step to add a B&M)
STEP 5: Go back to the marker and open the pop-up again.
Step 6: Click on the pencil to edit and add your name in place of the city.  

Refer to the entries in Utah if you are unsure how they are supposed to look.   PM me with any questions and feel free to leave feedback and ideas on this thread.

That is an awesome idea.  I pegged mine in NH

So cool that I think it should be pinned on the Cigar Events thread imo. But for that, people would have to make sure to NOT put their home addresses and only their B&Ms.

Added my hometown and 2 shops I like.

I had the same thoughts. That's why I stated that we put city only and not address for members locations. Knowing what city a geek is in will help narrow down someone to meet up with where as the B&M should be address specific so others can use the map to go right to said B&M or lounge.

To go even further, geeks should add their names WITHIN their local B&M's Google listing so that others can see where groups of geeks congregate.

I think that is a great idea. I'm really happy with the interest in this idea so far.

This sounds like  agreat idea.Here where I live in the GWN the closest one is in Halifax 120miles away.I hear its nice but of coarse being here the sticks are expensive.For now my favorite one is my front deck. :-)

I added my link for me and the shops I love. Maybe there should be a link for the map in the main menu so as new members join it will be easier to find and know about.

Me and the B&M marked... I feel sooo alone.  :)

My closest Canadian brothers are far away from me. In fact, the closest Geek to me is Brian (Bmac7754) and he's in the US, about 350 miles away.

I took the liberty of adding just a few cigar lounges in the area..... :biggrin:

Now if only some of the old farts would put themselves on the map.  :whistle:

I note that some people have been adding lounges as members (My understanding is that the Stars are intended for lounges/B&Ms, and the red points for members themselves), and possibly vice-versa. Needs a little cleanup.

Unfortunately, I'm there for a metal festival, and probably won't have a moment of free time to get out of the area around the venue/hotel.  :-(

Thanks for pointing this out. Edited them and found a few that have no names associated to them in Atlanta and will figure out who they belong to and edit those as well.

I'm not deleting anything off the map. Just changing them to the right layer and putting in the geeks names that didn't put them in. Glad you brought up your cigars. Do any of them sell your cigars online?

Great idea, I posted my location and some cigar lounges as well.

I love checking back and seeing the new ones that people have added.

Original post updated with step by step instructions for those unfamiliar with the app and to help standardize the entries made. Thank you to all who have participated in this so far.

We now have 34 Geeks and 120 B&M/Lounge locations. Keep them coming guys.   :thumbsup:

Yesterday, me and the wife started planning next years vacation and are looking at map routes from Utah to Maryland. The wife said I could get some time at a lounge as vacation lands on my birthday as well. Now I'm at work and bored as hell so I hop on here and start looking through the cigar places. Then I remembered this map. Long story short, here I am planning a route that might get me close enough to some geeks to herf with and   :bump: ing this thread as it hasn't been used in some time. Maybe some of the new guys might want to use it too.

I added myself to the map, my 5 cigar shops I frequent, and removed one that went out of business...

I'd forgotten all about this.  Good Resurrection.

Added a few more places here in western PA, deleted the Cigar Den, it closed and was to move but nothing seems to be happening.

I see there are a lot of geeks in STL.  I go there every year to visit family.  I need to make a point of joining some of you for a cigar next time I'm there.   I actually stay down by Cape Girardeau, but usually have a couple of trips to STL while I'm in the area.
