Title: ISO CAO Amazon Basin
Post by: raize on 10/18/2015 09:40 AM
Had a few of these last year and was a fan.  None of my local shops have them anymore.  Anyone have a few they'd be willing to part with or trade for?  I *do*have access to several TAA 2015 sticks.

I have access to these all day everyday. I also have access to the TAA. By chance do you have access to any DE Liga Privada's??

Both of the shops I frequent carry them.  Is there a specific line/vitola you are looking for that I can check into further?

I'll give them a call sometime this evening or tomorrow and let you know what I hear...  Any idea how many of the Amazon Basin are available?

Just talked to one of my shops. They have them and are $8.57/ea after tax.  Apparently they no longer come in the tins though. What do you think?

You must be referring to the little Papas Fritas cigar, which came in a tin of 4 up until this summer. But your state taxes must be really high, because the MSRP on these is only $5.25, and they can be found for $4.80 on the internet.

Yeah, I saw that. The cigar shop guy said they don't have the tins anymore, that they just come in boxes of like 50.  And yes, IL state tax on cigars is 27.5% and the City of Chicago tacks on an additional $1/ea.  Hence why I typically buy online.

I'm scouring my sources to see if I can find any Amazon Basins out there for you.

I just talked to my shop in Kansas City and he is putting aside as many as i Need. How many you want? Will have a price tomorrow

Depends on price.  Due to my experiences with B&M shops and high sales tax, I'm not sure what to expect.  I would say no less than 5 though.  Still interested in the DE's with the price being what it is...?

Honestly that's $3 higher per stick than what i can get them for.let me see what the pricing is and we can figure something out

Such is my life.  Love my city, hate the taxes.  If you're interested, I work right by Tesa Cigar Co which has their own house branded sticks that are good quality and tax exempt.

I don't see them in the shops I get to. The closest good shops are about 2 hours from me so I do most of my purchase online. I haven't seen them online either.

Yeah, ive got 2 good shops within a couple of miles and they havent had them for a while.  thats why im asking here...

There's a shop by me that has them but with MN tax you're looking at about $14/cigar. Been a couple weeks since I was in there but he had a full box. If you want a couple at that price I can swing in there today and see if he still has them.

Totally understand that. I have a really hard time buying anything local myself.

If it makes you feel better, my tax is worse.  IL tax on cigars is 36% and Cook County (Chicago) adds another $0.30/cigar. Fortunately some of the local shops eat a portion of the sales tax but it still trends to sit over 25%.

**Edit: Holy s**t! I just looked up MN's cigar tax. 95%!!! That is insane! **
Title: Re: ISO CAO Amazon Basin
Post by: ninfiction on 10/26/2015 04:26 PM
Yep, 95% of wholesale but capped at $3.50 per cigar with a $.50 minimum. All the places sell at MSRP or higher and then add $3.50 on top. No discounts here, which is why the Amazon Basin is just about $14 and an Arturo Fuente Curly Head is $6...just stupid. But I can drive about 30 miles over into Wisconsin and save more than enough to cover gas. Sucks for the B&M's here.

Side note, I'll be in Chicago in Dec for work and will be making a trip to Tesa for sure. Love their cigars.

I work literally two blocks from Tesa and live 3 from Iwan Ries. You should also check out Up Down in Old Town. Its only about 5 minutes out of the Loop via the Brown Line.

Made my first trip to Tesa last month, I'm staying at the Swissotel and figured I'd take the L to a few places. I'll have to shoot you a note when the time is closer.

Surprisingly, the Binny's in River North has a decent humidor as well and their prices are reasonable.

I found a box of 18 amazon basins at Serious for $132.95, but since I'm in-state I have to pay tax. Ideally if one of yall out of staters are available Friday afternoon to make the purchase, and then handle the split, that'd be the cheapest way.

So far interest wise I think the split is pretty full, I've heard from Raize, RDF, and terrys1991. But that's up to yall to split it. Let me know!

If there is still room in the split I'd take a couple...and would be willing to make the purchase/send out cigars, but do not want to step on the other 3 guys toes if one of you want the box or you guys want all the cigars...just an offer, and will step out if you guys want them.

Just need Raize to chime in, he was the one that started the post looking for them. I'll send him a PM, but if he wants the rest I'll step out.

Since I initiated, I will purchase and distribute. I'll do 5 for me and RDF and 4 for ninfiction and terrys1991. That sound acceptable to everyone? If so, I'll make the purchase Friday.

So after a few hiccups, they are ordered and en route.  Ron @ Serious said they should be to me Thursday.  If so, I'll try to get them turned around ASAP.

Randy, sent you a PM.  Brian & Terry, apparently the sticks arrived this morning.  Will post pics when I get home and try to ship them out this evening or tomorrow.

P.S. This is my first purchase of a *real* box of cigars.  I've done the Cuvee 151 before but I don't think that counts...

Sorry for the delay in shipping guys.  Tried to ship them Friday but got out of work too late.  Tried to ship them via FedEx after work yesterday and they said they wouldn't ship them.  Got up early this morning and got to the post office as it was opening.  Sticks are now on the way.  Great doing the split with you all and hope you enjoy.  Tracking #s below:

maybe that's what i'm doing wrong. i still have most of a box for a reason. the flavor of the three i've smoked tasted like what burning damp leaves in the fall smell like.  everyone loves them so i'm holding on to them until they click for me. i hope.... :smoker2:
