It sounded like there was some interest in a OAG "Ordinary Average Guy" Superbowl Squares Contest.
There will be one winner per quarter of the game. The winner will be determined by the last digits of the score at the end of each quarter. For example, if NFC has 21 and AFC has 28 then the square that intersects with the 1 on the NFC side and the 8 on the AFC side is the winner.
The buy in will be five cigars = (five squares). No more than five squares per participant, so that there is room for all who want in. If, at 6:00 PM on January 31st, there are still empty squares then they're up for grabs to whoever would like them.
If there are still empty squares at noon ET on game day, then they will be assigned as follows... Everyone who's already in play will have their name thrown in a hat, once for each fiver they put up. In other words, if you put up 1 fiver, then your name will go in 1 times. If you bought 2 fivers , then your name goes in 2 times. Names will be drawn and assigned to the empty squares from left to right, top to bottom. These extra squares will not increase the pot size, nor obligate anyone to more cigars than they already put up.
Please select 5 numbers for your 5 cigars they can be viewed here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1k6kRkc-V8iBPVkKlBFDsOy2TcS-53FT-Iq5kjJymatg/edit?usp=sharing
Prior to game time, post the list of cigars that you will be betting. Cigars are to be within the $5-$10 range, using CI or Cigar.com, Famous box pricing. Please post list of cigars your betting with your numbers if at all possible. PLEASE DO NOT SEND CIGARS TO ME. You will ship them out to the winners explained below
Once all the squares are filled I will use a random number generator, the columns and rows will be numbered.
After the game is over, the winners will choose their 5 pack cigars in the round robin style format. They will be choosing in the same groups of five that were bet by the others. The order of the choosing will be final score, 3rd quarter, 2nd quarter, 1st quarter. The winners will not have to put their bets in the pot for others to choose. Simply put, the pot will consist of just the cigars put up by the losers. The exception to this is if you buy ten squares but only win one quarter. Then you will have to put five cigars in the pot. You're free to choose your own cigars, but they will count as one of your picks.
Once all of the choosing is done, the losers will ship the cigars (5 packs) to the winner that chose them. Clarification if you lose you will only be sending the 5 cigars you bet to the winner who choose your 5 pack.
In order to participate you must have a feedback rating of 2, and at least 100 points. If you believe you warrant an exception then please PM me.

Come on guys lets fill this one up, You put in 5 everyday cigars, pick 5 numbers and you are done. You need to know nothing about football, the solar system, or how many toes a rooster has on each foot, and yes luck has everything to do with these pools. Playing for cigars is always a good time.
Cigars are added...
John, I didn't see anywhere how the pot is distributed out between the four quarters, did I miss that somewhere? I imagine the final score gets the largest pot unless you were thinking it would be split up equally? :?:

If I'm not mistaken there will 4 winners, one for each quarter. Starting with winner from last quarter working backwards these 4 will take turns choosing a 5 pack until all gone.

Brian is correct.... the reason we list all the fivers is because in order from final, 3rd, half, 1st they pick the fiver they want then those are off the table. Restart again Final, 3rd, half, 1st until they are all gone. This way the losers only have to send to 1 person and the winner just keeps the fiver they put up. If like last year I think Brian won two of the quarters so he got to pick 2 times per round.
Hope that makes sense.

John, looks to me you're looking for Geeks who like sending cigars to their brothers and sisters of the Geeks? Man, if I had known that, I'd have jumped in faster.
You can count me in. I'll go with 8 - 18 - 24 - 84 – 89, already on the spreadsheet. Will be choosing and posting cigars soon. I have no luck whatsoever with lottery type games and contests so I'll more than gladly send nice cigars to the lucky winner who chooses my 5er.
But is this really only about luck? Aren't certain digits more probable to pop up than others? I'd assume, and that would also be influenced by the quarter, that some are statistically more probable to appear than others therefore making this a bit more than just pure luck.
Then again, I could just be off my rockers and you know what, that's all right 'cause just has I have no luck in these things, I have no pride either
Ok, my first time in the CG superbowl pool, I guess the rules were pretty clear about it. :shamebag:
I'm used to the regular $ superbowl pools where final score wins a bigger share of the pot...but I like this better, final score gets first choice but all the winners come away with 25 sticks.
Thanks.
Yes John I won 2 qtrs and Mike.casey won the other two. We alternated back and fourth picking cigars.
Gary they actually each get 20 sticks as the winners cigars get removed from the pot and don't have to ship out. Check out Robs premium cigar pool which still needs more players. The amounts are split differently and cash is given out too. You can play 1 to 5 cigars and the pot is awesome.
Thanks Brian, true, 20 sticks each.
Yeah Rob's is out of my league, this one suits me better.
Thanks.

Mojo yes certain numbers are more popular like 0, 3, 6, 7, 9 because those are popular scoring in football but since they moved the extra kick back the extra point isn't as guaranteed anymore. So some teams go for 2 instead of 1... It's all luck because you don't know what numbers you have until all the squares are gone and you don't know how a game is going to turn out. All it takes is a safety.
good luck and thanks for entering

Actually 0's are a good number a lot of time. It's all luck really... At the end of each quarter you take the score (last ending number of the score 10 = 0) for the AFC team and NFC team and figure out which square has the combined score...
HMMMM
1 - 3
0 - 8
9 - 9
5 - 5
8 - 4
5-3
9-1
8-4
0-7
7-2
Not terrible...

My numbers "look" good together, but I have no idea if that is a good thing or not ;-)
AFC - NFC
9 - 3
9 - 2
7 - 7
7 - 1
5 - 1
Sorry for the noob question here, but this is my first time Superbowl Square'ing. I can't help that notice that some of you are counting the Y axis first, and some the X axis first. I understand we're talking AFC and NFC, but is there a usual scheme for which league's score is designated first? Are folks just counting placing their "home" league first?
as long you're counting AFC score for AFCand NFC score for NFC, thats all that matters.
NFC AFC
2 - 3
9 - 7
2 - 6
7 - 6
6 - 6
Not bad... whole lotta sixes though
I can work with these... Seem okay <fingers crossed>.
N - A
8 - 3
0 - 4
5 - 4
2 - 0
7 - 5

I haven't paid attention which is NFC AFC for those that didn't post it.
Your numbers are
NFC AFC
2 2
0 0
8 9
9 4
5 1
So if the ending score for a quarter ends in your numbers you win that quarter.
2-2 and 0-0 seem terrible. I don't know the first thing about football scoring. Go team, score some points for me!
0-0 is better than you think... if the score is 10 - 0 or 20 - 10, or just no score... you're a winner!
I guess as good as the rest
NFC AFC
6 2
1 2
4 6
7 0
7 3
I have to say...I'm lost...I don't know what the random numbers are for....
QuoteMacMac - 1/18/2016 2:06 PM I have to say...I'm lost...I don't know what the random numbers are for....
N A
2 5
5 7
4 9
1 3
6 0
those are your numbers. So, at the end of each quarter you want the last number of the score for NFC Team and the last number of the score for the AFC team to match your numbers.
EXAMPLE NFC Carolina has 12 and AFC Denver has 15 at the end of the quarter... YOU WIN! Because your square that is N 2 A 5 matches the score.
Cool Thanks!
Quotemillarddj - 1/18/2016 2:28 PM 2-2 and 0-0 seem terrible. I don't know the first thing about football scoring. Go team, score some points for me!
0-0 is actually a great set of numbers. Assuming there is no score in the first you win. 10-0, or 10-10 are very realistic scores.
So mine are
AFC NFC
4 7
5 0
3 0
0 5
0 4
Someone please check me and make sure that is right. I'm a N00B when it comes to these fooseball squares!

I about did this myself. I know my cigars best by look, and so sometimes don't recognize when combing my virtual humidor. I've gotta segregate all of my "held" cigars so that I don't touch them.
As soon as I pledged mine I bagged them up and removed them from "My Humidor" otherwise I'd end up doing the same...or smoking them.

I could see this happening, so I did the same as you. Removed them from my humidor and moved the cigars to a humidor I don't open very often so the temptation to grab them is a lot less.
Here are my proposed substitutions:
CLE Cuarenta Robusto ----> CLE Cuarenta Sixty
CLE Connecticut Robusto ----> Ave Maria Immaculata Belicoso
DRAM Cask #1 Gigantor ----> El Primer Mundo La Hermandad Embajador
If anyone has objections feel free to speak up.
The spreadsheet is now locked (for good reasons, like say, avoiding this kind of thing) so John if you're ok with this please update the spreadsheet.
Thanks.
I screwed up and gave one of my sticks away as well. I need to make a substitute:
Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Robusto for an Oliva Master Blends 3 Box Pressed Robusto.
I now have all of them packaged seperately though!

Quoteheadfirst - 2/7/2016 11:34 PM Congrats Justin!
I was rooting for no one to score at the end... Kind of fitting being that I didn't care for either team.
Congrats to all the winners!!!!! This will be a round robin selection starting with final score to 1st quarter then back to Final Score... I have removed all the winners bidded cigars as they are no longer available to choose from.
First up with be Gustoff

I have opened up the google page if you want to put your name on the selection of cigars or write it here and then the next person will be up.
After you make your selection please post here and PM the next person in line so we can get this finished and cigars all sent out quickly.

Thank you, and thanks to everyone. This was fun to follow and be a part of. Just for one last, fun jab of irony: I learned from Facebook last night that the Panthers were one team involved (don't know where they're from), but I don't know who they played, where they played, what the score was, and I had to look up who Peyton Manning was this morning.

I think the postman may have been a little careless. The wrapper leaf on the Flatbed Track 7 looked somewhat damaged and peeling to me inside the finger bag, and sure enough, it started coming off wholesale when I eased it out of its slot. It's resting carefully in my tuppedor, and will probably receive a smoking attempt at one of my next available opportunities.
