Hi Geeks, this is my first attempt at running a pass. I hope this will appeal to both newer members like myself and long-time veterans alike, and have attempted to include seed cigars based around this.

Running a pass can be a lot of fun but there can also be some unexpected surprises. If you run into problems don't hesitate to ask questions of any of the pass pros. They can save you some time and aggravation.
I've been doing lots of back-delving, research, and questioning of some (very helpful) senior Geeks. Special thanks to headfirst, brlesq, and bmac in particular for giving me a hand and some education.

If I remember right, you dont assign yourself along the way, you just decide once you see a few you want to "purge", then you just decide it's time for the pass to come back to you.. That goes over well....

Wow, we've got a strong lineup of experienced Geeks! Let's get some newbs in here (and the door's still open for vets). Right now I think the newest member is the pass moderator. That doesn't seem right!!

A couple of updates this evening:
- chadboskie has been added and inserted into the pass order. We're up to 13 participants, which is getting right around where I'd hoped to have this. I will leave the pass open until at least the end of the coming weekend in order to allow those who see this a bit later or who are waffling
- I have updated the description in a couple of places. Most notably to allow Canadian Geeks to participate virtually if they so choose, and also to clarify the rule on special cigars - probably easier if you just read it. This is borne out of a desire to be able to share these sticks with whomever wants to try them but doesn't necessarily have equal/higher value cigars of the same type
- I have laid out a pass order to try and minimize shipping gaps, allow for potential in-person handoffs where applicable, and to accommodate a request or two that I've received. Please let me know if you are going to have prolonged out-of-town periods or would like to be shifted.
Can't wait to kick this one off!

Justin (Gustoff) has joined, and suddenly we're up to 16. I had extended an invitation to another couple of newbs and vets. I will honor those invitations, but otherwise I will be considering the pass closed. Nice growth from last year!
Just a reminder to those newer to passes (including myself) - remember that as the pass goes on, especially with a larger number of members, the box may get heavier, and the shipping cost may gradually creep up if you're near the end of the pass (poor Gary, all by himself on the west coast). This is part of the reason that I tried to start this pass with some higher-valued cigars, so that hopefully everyone has some real goodies to pick from and it's well worth the cost on your part. However, if this concerns you, please feel free to contact me.

All right fellas, I'm closing the pass because it looks like we're ready to roll. I've attempted to get the biggest container I can find that I'm sure will fit in a USPS Medium flat rate box, but local options have proved to be somewhat limited. I think there's room for a solid five full finger bags, plus boveda, in the container, but if someone more experienced ends up having to swap out containers for optimization, I will be very appreciative and make sure that you are taken care of!
Trent, will you be ready to receive the pass within the next few days during your Mardi Gras festivities?

Box has arrived~! The container and box are both too small to accommodate further cigars so I will be upgrading both to a more fitting size~! I also am arranging a meeting with Stogiedad to do a hand off but we may not meet until Friday and he will probably not be able to get the package back out until Monday. That shouldn't be too slow since we are getting two people done in 5 days~!

The box has been transitioned to Stogiedad....... after a couple beers and a cigar or two..... :biggrin:
I added another container since the first one was stuffed to capacity already and increased the box size to accommodate both containers. Maybe Stogiedad has a better suited box?

I dropped it at my UPS store for pickup Tuesday morning I believe. Not sure. I can pop by on my way by tonight to make sure they put it in the drop. But my USPS stuff has been weird, I send Headfirst something a couple weeks ago, just sat there then showed up. Who freaking knows.
I've had four or five Priority Mail packages delayed by 2-3 days each since the last rate hike. In my mind, there was no question of whether or not we'd hit a shipping delay, but merely when.

Really? Camacho about 6.25 for the caldwell. I put the diamond crown in about 14.00 for the romeo. No clue what that is but figured 10. The hemingway is around 11 i put that in for the illusion. And leaf and bean at 9 for the torano which is 7. I thought i was pretty good. The Diamond crown is the best of the group in my opinion. Sorry about that
Chad - no worries after reviewing. I couldn't find anything for the Leaf & Bean, and saw $5.85 on CI for the Camacho. Gary cleared up the former, and I'm not too concerned about the latter. This is why it's helpful to stick to posting values with your sticks (though I think only one other member did it so far :rolleyes: )
I forgot to mention I grabbed one of Brads Xiphos Short Panatella. Going to toast this little baby up tomorrow.

Yes. I still think it's considerate practice to replace one CC with another, but I didn't want to deny anyone who really wanted to try them out but didn't have any of their own to swap. At this point, there are only 2 CCs left in the pass, and so there is now a *hard* rule that one must be replaced with another.
I still have heard nothing from anyone about the pass "secret", and so it is my assumption that it is still in place.

Dude, don't sweat it. Brad is correct, it is normally customary, but it is usually stated in the rules. Daniel stated otherwise, which is perfectly fine, and his intent was accomplished by somebody getting to try one they don't have access to. Passes take a few to get used to, but there was no error in the end, Daniel OK'd it, I say on to the next one.
Just for future reference,which is what learning passes is all about, genrally you swap a CC for a CC, HTF for HTF. No sending back, I've got more of somebody down the line needs one...:biggrin:

Chad, as I said above, you were within the rules of the pass with your P/Ts - you don't need to worry about anything. Brad and I were just clarifying that now we've hit the minimum of 2 CCs, and while that's the case, you should put a CC to replace a CC take.
On your turn, there were 3, so it was not required for you to put a CC. Make sense? Perhaps I didn't articulate this the best in the pass rules.

Following up on my last post, I want to comment that the senior Geeks have been terrifically generous in this pass. Some of the great sticks being put in make me wish I was in the middle of the pass order, and to hell with it coming home to me!

Hey gang, just got back from a weekend trip home and the box has arrived safe and sound. I will take inventory and whatnot tonight.
You may want to check in with Jeff before you send it, I've been trying to reach him for over a week with no luck, hope everything's alright with him.
I sent Jeff a message. I see he hasn't been around in almost two weeks.
Devin, please hold the box today. I told Jeff I would give him a day or two to respond. If there's no word by Thursday (4/21) morning, we'll skip Jeff. Hopefully he'll pop in shortly, though.
I got a message from Jeff saying "Have been here most of the time just have not had the time to log onto the site."
So, he hasn't been on CG to my knowledge. Devin, have you heard from him? I will try sending one more message asking him to post here in the thread by tomorrow morning (4/22). If he doesn't post here, I will drop him and we'll move this along. Sorry to keep you all waiting!

Sorry, to clarify - he messaged at that time as well, but just prior, it was pointed out to me by a senior Geek that he hadn't logged in in 11-12 days. Ok, ignore my message then, Devin. It's *always* a good idea to check the pass thread before you ship, so that we can avoid confusion and make all communication public. We'll hope that Jeff gets this and has the time to turn it around!

I am assuming this should have landed in CO by now, but I do not have a tracking number from Devin. Hopefully this thing doesn't get lost out west.
Additionally, I've had no response from Jeff in the last week.
Devin has added tracking. The box was delivered to Jeff's last Monday. Waiting on and hoping for a response from Jeff.
I am sooooo sorry!! I got boxes TODAY and trust me they were post marked WAAYYYY before that! Got a call today saying I had a box in the office. Went over to grab it and there was the Mild Side PASS box it was delivered WEDNESDAY not Monday? and she said "I know my husband had something else for you?". Sure enough there is a small USPS express box with the May Review cigar and and very nice letter in it that now makes me look like a total ASSS! And to make matters even worse he has 2 USPS express boxes for me that the wife had DROPPED OFF to be given to the postman from 2 WEEKS ago! A Trade and a birthday bomb for one of my favorite and and the 2nd Geek I ever even spoke to on here for gods sake :(
I swear to everyone that ALL of this will be out TOMORROW and that 1. I will never have the wife doing my mailing for anyone again. and 2. Neither of us will ever use the office for any of out mail drop offs again (So much for the GLORY of the advantages to TOWN HOUSE living!!!).
The three boxes I am sending I 100% swear to everyone will have at least DOUBLE if not TRIPLE what was originally in them.
PLEASE forgive me everyone this WILL be made right by me!

Will have the box in hand when I leave in the morning but wanted to get the transition done. Will post the tracking # on here tomorrow afternoon. Also in my haste I didn't put prices in if you need em for anything I have more so they are listed in my VH with a fairly accurate price. Only one I have to explain is the Lusi yes they are listed as a full but when you smoke this one with over 4 GOOD years of sleep on it you will see the mild and mellow side of it :smoker:

Oh please don't anyone send me "tip" cigars (that's like telling a dog not to bark though, I guess). I will probably do a small contest to re-distribute some of these sticks at the end of the pass. I'll reserve and enjoy any gifts, but I am smoking extremely infrequently at present!

Since I can't smoke all of these, I'm going to cook up a contest sometime in the next few days and post it up here so that someone can enjoy these. Additionally, I will get feedback left for everyone in the pass (other than the few members that I left it for right away).

Ok guys, I've been trying to come up with contest ideas and have been going nowhere the last few days, so let's make this easy.
If you like your milds and would happily smoke any stick that was placed into this pass, AND will share a couple of these sticks with friends or (even better) someone new to the hobby, put your virtual hand up below and I'll do a drawing this week.
