Title: XIPHOS CONTEST WINNER NAMED!!
Post by: Vroomp on 02/09/2016 07:59 PM

I have a bad habit of saving my bands for a project I will probably never accomplish and I even save the ones from the cigars I smoke in my Jeep~!

                                                                      (https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xap1/t31.0-8/1497845_1597575600490726_4025200734486297397_o.jpg)

There is a tiny little indention in front of the gear shift that holds my cigar cutter perfectly and a little change along with a small stack of bands, which I have to use my cutter to hold in place. :shades:

I just emptied the dang thing only to find quite a few bands were stored in there from the past several + weeks~~!

The person who can tell me within 1/100 of a percent what percentage of them were Xiphos bands will be the first to receive a sample of my new blends (which I should have some samples available for you in a couple weeks) and maybe a few hitchhikers too~!

Your answer MUST be a 4 digit numeral Which will be .???? _ No decimal point,, and you are banned from CG forever~! (just kidding, but you will be required to ride the short bus from then on)  :lmao:  :lmao:

And don't worry,,, there aren't too many permutations being as there were only between 10 and 60 bands total~!  :lmao:

This contest is open to any and all members regardless of seniority, status, rank, or likability....  It will end on March 10th to give the Arcade Contest time to wrap up (hopefully)...

Here's a hint for you guys that hate math or were taught common core math.

If I had 60 bands and 13 were Xiphos the answer would be 19÷60=.3166 (or .3167 if you round up, your choice here :?: ) or 40 bands and 39 were Xiphos 39÷40=.9750 etc, etc.....

Leave off the decimal point or the last numeral from your answer and you are disqualified~! Or banished, whichever you prefer..... :banghead:

Guess all month long, change your answer whenever you want to, first answer posted without any further guesses ( I suggest editing your first response to eliminate this possibility) with the response closest to the correct answer wins~!

 Contest ends March 10at 12:00 midnight~!

If you're no good at math just give up now, otherwise let the guessing begin~!

Amended rule #1: Limit your guesses to four posts please....... more than 4 is spam and you will be disqualified or bludgeoned or both~!

P.S.     If you don't get the rules ask one of your kids~!

Maybe because it's the winning number? Or because it just makes sense, since they are such good cigars, that every 6.666 out of 10 cigars you smoke would be Xiphos. ;-)

Sorry, but you fail at math.  4-digit number.  The 0 serves only to locate the decimal and therefore cannot be considered a significant figure.  Hence, my guess is .3125 or 3.125 x10^-1.  :-P

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - but only slightly less well-known is this:  "Never part an engineer's hair in math when you're an architect"!  Ha ha ha ha ha!!

It is closest guess wins, but this contest isn't officially over until March 10th~!

That gives you plenty of time to enter more guesses, although if you simply guess all possible combinations I will have to disqualify you for the infraction of spamming~!

Let's limit this to 4 guesses per person please!

       Rules~! I don't do well with those things~!

I make them up as I go.......

And re-route the pass box to me every third person too~!

Title: Re: XIPHOS CONTEST (or math conundrum)
Post by: Vroomp on 02/25/2016 11:39 AM

There can be only one winner and that is the first guess posted closest to the mark. There is, however, a possibility to beat the current leader by guessing closer than the .0031 spread.....  Get it?

We Have A Winner!!!

The  new guy Savonian has guessed the correct answer without any margin of  error~!  There were 44 bands in my car and 16 were Xiphos bands~! The  correct answer was .3636363636363636...........

Fran95 was leading the pack previously with a single guess of .3667 which was off by only .0031

Unfortunately  for him, he will be waiting until my return from Costa Rica to receive  his prize as I have yet to receive my promised set of sample  cigars from Nicaragua and the other two cigars from Costa Rica will be riding home with me.....

In order for him to receive one of each of the full line (9 cigars and maybe a couple hitchhikers) it will be after March 13th before I can ship~!

Congratulations Simo~! I will ship these as soon as i have the full line available~!

Geez,,,,  this contest might cost me a small fortune in shipping charges~!    :?:
