Have any Geeks been to the Drew Estate cigar safari. They are not real helpful in giving out details.

I don't know what the dates are for 2018...but you should check the news regarding the violent protests.  US Govt. site; Reconsider travel to Nicaragua due to crime and civil unrest.

On April 23, 2018, the U.S. government ordered the departure of U.S. government family members and authorized the departure of U.S. government personnel.

Yes, I've done a cigar safari back in 2015.  It was an amazing trip, a unique insight into the inner workings of a cigar manufacturer, a relaxing vacation, a happy herfing time with cool people, and a trip I'll remember for the rest of my life.  The tickets are fully refundable, though the airfare is on you.

If you are going to be in Nicaragua, visit us next door in Costa Rica at Tabacos de CR.

Has the date for the cigar safari been announced?  I have friends from Nicaragua, I like them, very hard working people. I have been in Nicaragua several times, it is a very nice country. Cost of living is cheap but there is a lot of poverty. There are many good things there besides premium cigars, but the government it is not trustworthy, not at all, and it has been that way for many years. I have nothing against Nicaraguans, but the government is a dictatorship, so you can expect anything from them in order to quell the social unrest throughout the country. I have been living in Costa Rica for 24 years, and believe me, today in Nicaragua the situation is not good. Daniel Ortega fought with the Sandinistas and he wants to be President for life and his wife Rocio is the vice-president.  Hopefully peace & order will be restored before the cigar safari happens.   Some of you may remember the Contra War. The Contras were the various U.S.-backed and funded right-wing rebel groups that were active from 1979 to the early 1990s in opposition to the socialist Sandinista Junta of National Reconstruction government in Nicaragua. The Contras lost. Does the name Oliver North ring any bells?  He was recently made the President of the NRA.  In July of 1989, North and other major contra-gate figures were barred from Costa Rica. The order was issued by none other than Oscar Arias Sanchez, president of Costa Rica and winner of the 1987 Nobel Prize for Peace. President Arias was acting on recommendations from a Costa Rican congressional commission investigating drug trafficking. The commission concluded that the contra re-supply network in Costa Rica which North coordinated from the White House, doubled as a drug smuggling operation.         https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?zx=1hlzi99qliac0#label/BME/163732725814e0c0

I was there early April. Fantastic bucket-list trip. In fact, it was so good that it's gone back on my bucket list! The people there are truly wonderful, hardworking people. Unfortunately, the current unrest makes it unwise for travel right now. It kinda breaks my heart how these poorer countries get effed over by their politicians.

Amigodecigrs I've been to Costa Rica had a great time a friend of mine as a house down there. Thanks guys for the info.

I would not be surprised if Drew Estate waits until things have quieted down to schedule the safari because Esteli has seen some trouble in the streets and security has been increased and transportation of cigars to the airport in Managua has been affected.  I live in Puriscal...where is your friends home located in CR?
