Title: Utah ruins everything
Post by: Camshaft83 on 02/04/2019 10:53 PM
Apparently Utah made buying from e retailers illegal this year. Tried to buy from Holt's and got a message saying they can't ship to me anymore

Maryland did this once and enough people fought back that they repealed the law... it might be tougher in Utah :-(

I tried to find it on the interweb and this is the closest that I could find:

https://tax.utah.gov/forms/pubs/pub-65.pdf

It has always been illegal to ship cigarettes because each state taxes them differently.

It has always been my understanding that, unless the retailer has arrangements set up with the various states, the end purchaser has always been responsible for remitting any and all taxes to the appropriate state and local authorities.  Being that tobacco products are taxed on so many levels, it's almost understandable with the gubmint's mind=set, that they'd just put an end to interstate purchases altogether.

You should be able to find a few that will still ship to you.  There will still be some small B&Ms with online storefronts around the country that don't have the resources or sophisticated systems to keep up with every state law.

WTF!  That is stupid.  I hope other states don't follow that law.  It would totally change what I smoke and how often.

Total pain in the ass but you could find yourself a proxy. 3rd party to ship them too and then they ship to you.

In the news today is that Hawaii looking to completely ban cigarette sales. In 2016, it became the first state to raise the age to buy cigarettes to 21. Now, its new bill calls for raising the cigarette-buying age to 30 by next year, up to 40, 50 and 60 in each subsequent year, and up to 100 by 2024.

Cigars will be next!

Time to buy more cooler-dors and proceed with filling them to the brim for those of us who live in other Communist-run, nanny states.  I'm in one myself....
