Title: Thompson cigars.
Post by: Longo on 05/23/2010 11:22 AM
I have tried in the past to order from them.  Three orders, three boxes of dried out prune like cigars.  Outtler leaf peeling off, that bad.  Complained abou it, and they sent me a 5 pack of undesirables for my trouble.  Once I can forgive, three times, and they are NOW OUT.  My primary now is HotAsh, followed by Cigars International.  Have never been disappointed with the cigars nor the delivery.  Just a point of interest.

Even more of a coincidence that there are two of these threads which are identical testimonials.

After long consideration about the implication of my actions, my only recourse is to declare shenanigans.

THERE IS NOW A DECLARATION OF SHENANIGANS ON THIS THREAD.

Just kidding. Welcome to the site Longo. We appreciate good relationships with other members and dislike overly pushy sales efforts. I suspect John invited you, yes? If so, have a drink, join in the conversation, enjoy a cigar or two and get to know the group.

If John invited you he's the winner of a point for referring a new member! Way to go, John!

We can't send mixed messages to salesmen, per se. They are welcome. There is a Forum column dedicated to them. We only castrate overly pushy ones.

As for members with multiple handles....how do we catch them?

There's a plausable explanation. Most of us have accidentally sent out a message twice, even 3 or 4 times. Can't we wait until he really sticks his foot in his mouth before we confiscate his entire inventory of cigars? Beware all members! One misplaced foot and your cigars are ours! Lucky I never say anything weird!

I have two Thompson humidors at arms length from me right now that I got on their $30 sampler deal.  I've given three away as gifts.  I'll smoke a Phoenix, Don Lugo, Old Timer or Black Label any day of the week.  I've still got some AOA's in a humi as well.  I've never had any problems with Thompson at all.  Are their "housebrands" up to the hype in their catalog?  Probably not.  Are they serviceable smokes?  Definitely.  Will I order from them again?  Without a doubt.

As for these "Hot Ash" cigars, it'll will take more than some fat New Jersey chicks you picked up at some Rollerdrome after some Derby game leaning over a riding mower to get my business.  Where I come from, this is a hot ash:

Funny how you can be branding for one thing, but the "marketing" makes you think of something else completely.

I won some auctions long ago, and the cigars were fine.  The telemarketers sucked.  I don't order from there any more.

Hey Longo:  Welcome to the site.  I appreciate the plug for HotAsh.  I've been doing business with other, very trusted vendors for many years.  With all respect, I'm not going to suddenly place an order with a new shop simply because someone I don't know joins my online community and before ever introducing himself begins to talk up an unknown shop.

I'm not accusing you of shenanigans or shilling, and I'll accept that you're not associated with HotAsh.  But if I owned HotAsh, I'd be quite concerned about the reputation of my business, because your postings have caused this whole community to question the integrity of my shop.

Just my thoughts.

The biggest problem I've had with Thompson is anything I've ordered takes 3 weeks or so to arrive.  Even when I lived in Texas it was the same.  There are plenty of other quality cigar vendors out there, so I don't need to deal with Thompson.

I have, for very many years, used the store as my humidor.  My idea of aging a cigar was to wait to get home before lighting it.  I had never ordered tobacco online before.  So my first online experience was with Thompson's to get one of their $30 humidors ... gotta start somewhere.  The experience seemed ok -- though I will say the house brands they sent me swing wildly between "awful" and "surprisingly good".

I have been looking at CI, Monster if I have a moment to look ...  but have not pulled the trigger yet. No auctions. So, other than these hotash guys that have impressed us so much, are there any other (or better) sites you folks would recommend?

I largely buy my cigars and accessories from the following sites in order of frequency.

Cuban Crafters.
Cigarbid.com (CI auction site, also known as the Devil's site, easy to over buy).
And Cigars International.

These vendors have proven to be very reliable with excellent customer service.

For me these are the best sites to deal with:

CI - great prices and customer service

cbid.com - great place to find a deal if your patient and don't get too hooked , HA!

cigar.com - mostly for the daily deal only plus the rare other special

JR's - sometimes some good specials

TNT- sometimes some great box prices, but not as good as they were in the past, some good alternative smokes

famous - the odd good special, but rare

cigarplace.biz - sometimes some really good special, and a few brands the have lower prices

cigaramerica.net and slipperyrockcigars.com - the odd good daily special

Thanks for the info!  I have the sites in my favorites now.  My wallet senses impending danger ...

I used to drive by the JR outlet warehouse on hwy 40 in Burlington NC all the time, but never stopped in.  Now that I don't live in that area any more, I'm kinda kicking myself in the ass.  I have not run across anything like it in central VA - which seems strange considering this is supposed to be big tobacco country.

bonitasmokeshop.com also has great customer service.

Their prices aren't always the best, but they have some great deals and have some smokes that other onlines dont.

Holts is also a very reputable dealer and some of their Tues and Thursday specials can be really good and their 6 packs to go can get you some excellent deals.  www.holts.com

I usually check the Daily Deals thread on this site when that thread has been updated.

Also want to mention that I have bought a number of samplers from Mike's Cigars with good results...however, their deals these days aren't nearly as good as they used to be.

wow this has been a very informative thread actually

i usually only buy from outlaw cigar north in MO. but i have been trolling the internet for an online vendor to buy from and found tompson's. shortly after that i became a member of this website and was looking for reviews of thompsons and found tons of other reliable vendors that are popular
example
CI
Cigar bid

i think i will start with these for my online stogie shopping

thanks everybody for your input
