A great man said recently..ok, he's a great friend...no, he's a lawyer...wait he's a fellow BOTL here on CG...anyway, he promoted this contest with a comment made to a few of us here.
"No more special occasion cigars! Smoke them when you're in the mood. You could be hit by a bus tomorrow."
This resonates with me because I hoard cigars better than any hoarder could hoard. So let's have a contest!
Here's the deal. Post a pic in this thread of that cigar you've been saving for a special occasion or because "you'll never get another one" or "so and so gave it to you and now they're dead"...hopefully not but you should get the point by now.
Smoke that !@#%$ing thing, it's time. Let's all do it together. Today is that special occasion..
Light it up, post a pic, win a fiver from me which will include one of the many cigars I have deemed too special to smoke along with a few others that will be fantastic.
The cigar has to be special to you for some reason, it doesn't have to have cost $100 or any of that bs, it just has to be something you've been saving for the right time, that special moment.
It has to be lit and you have to post a picture of it...lit..in this thread. It would be cool if you gave the backstory too, but you don't have too.
You have until the end of the month(November) to smoke em. You can enter multiple times. On or around December 1st I will pick a winner via random number...if you smoke 2 special occasion cigars you'll get 2 numbers and so on and so on.
Let's try our best to not give some average ordinary, bought on cbid cigar the status of "special occasion"...unless you have a story to go with it.
I'm running this contest, I make all decisions and all my decisions are final.
Go forth, smoke the stuff you've been saving for that special occasion, weddings, births, alien invasion....if you don't understand and need some clarification shoot me a pm.
Hopefully I covered it all, if not I retain the right to change the rules at any time. Ready...set...go smoke that "special" stick.
Edit: Open to anyone able to follow the directions
I think I have a good cigar for this...
What a cool idea. I think it will be a lot of fun hearing the stories.
Well this contest leaves me out lol I don't keep anything I buy and smoke no special occasion for me, everyday is special. At most times I'm lucky to have 10 cigars on hand.
I like it. Time to get over this  cold ASAP.
Brian, great to see you carry this thru. I have more than one I have been saving, especially one given to me by the person who inspired this contest.
Love it....I have several options....
I agree with you, but I still have a few I have hoarded for a special occasion... Which hasn't come yet. You are giving me a good excuse... Just gotta fly home
Thanks for the contest, Brian!
God of Fire Serie B 2010 the other night out in the cold. This cigar was special to me because it ignited the idea in some crazy hoarder's head for a fun contest.
It wasn't a special occasion. I was just in the mood to smoke it. I could be hit by a bus tomorrow.
Awesome idea! I have way too many to choose from for this, I think. Which I guess is the whole point!
I have something I've been squirreling away for a special occasion which I think will be today/this evening. Later this afternoon I conduct my last bourbon tasting at the Kentucky Distillers Association to complete my certification as Executive Bourbon Steward.
Making my inner hoarder nervous already!
Hmm... need to think about this. Not sure I've got any I'm really holding on to but it does make me think about a bottle of Pappy I've got which I've been hesitant to open

What age?
are there extra points if you are hit by a bus?

I'll send out a bonus fiver to anyone that is actually hit by a bus.
Man, I can think of some but am I emotionally ready for this?! This may be a ground-breaking contest for me.

Yeah,
at some point, if somebody ever takes their last turn that has been 2+ months. :shamebag:
I’ve been saving this one for a special occasion. I successfully presented my final bourbon tasting this afternoon and have passed the course to become a Certified Executive Bourbon Steward.

Lol yeah we are still in the midst of working out a trade/ pass so those 30 are off limits lol but I got a good 150 I think that fall into this category as well, I haven't smoked hardly at all in the last 2 years! With any of "those" special sticks, I'm always just grabbing what's on top to play golf haha, so I for sure need to get in on this! Thanks for the inspiration!!
Congrats John! Great cigar.
So with your new title what do you plan to do?
The first 2 entries are in, great to see so many of you thinking about doing the same.
I guess I'm gonna have to smoke my last original OSOK...great contest idea Brian!! :bigthumbs:
GF and I went and got our marriage license yesterday, so I had to burn some nice ones...

Congrats Ryan.
Here is one...a Fuente Hemingway Untold Story from 2014. Rarely have time for these big boys but it is indeed special. Figured Bama/LSU was as good a time as any.
Well here is one entry
The cigar is a very rare 2007 Camacho Liberty given to me by the very enabler who inspired this contest. So I thought very fitting. Had it for a number of years, always looking for the perfect occasion. Had it scheduled for my daughter's wedding in over two years ago, ended up smoking another cigar.

Part 1
My choice for a cigar was the Davidoff Year of the DOG. I got this cigar in an amazing deal from a fellow Geek, but I won’t RAT him out. I wasn’t sure if I should attempt this fighting a cold and being a little HORSE. As I SNAKEd thru the house out to my usual smoking spot, all the time Eye of the TIGER playing in my head. Rather than MONKEY around with worrying about pre-light traditions I jumped right in. But I wanted to be careful not to hot bOX it.
After it was all done I thought about lighting second but didn’t want to be a PIG. Is this cigar the GOAT, who knows? I was only hoping this smoke would DRAGON as long as possible. If you have not smoked one then I can only go back to a line from a John Wayne movie as ROOSTER Cogburn “I can do nothing for you, son.”

 Chuck the word smith over here!! Lol nicely done brother :smoker:
In the Special Occasions 3.0 pass, I picked up a seriously aged Zinp Platinum 10 Salomon... I figured it'd be a good special occasion cigar but I'm burning it tonight.

I was saving my last Quai d'Orsay Imperiales (discontinued) from a 2006 box for a special occasion to smoke on a long, warm day since its a 2+ hour smoke. Rather, here I am today smoking it in 23 degrees for no good reason other than I felt like it! :smoker:
I totally agree with the premise of your contest Brian. More smoking, less hoarding. This cigar is special to me cuz I'm a Camacho whore, it's a Liberty, and they ain't never gonna make any more.
Excellent, all of you. It's cool to see some of the cigars that are being hoarded.
Well got into my stash. The first one to go Drew Estate Ratzilla.Nice stick
Well the next one to bite the dust is a Padron 1926 Robust

WOAH, nice way to celebrate.
Fantastic Ryan! Congrats!
I figure I better post at least 1 for my own contest. I've smoked a few this month that I've been hoarding and glad you guys have been too.
I smoked an LFD Limitado III. Given to me by Bruce. This cigar was fantastic, oily, cold draw and aroma was like a chocolate/fudge brownie fresh out of the oven. So smooth and flavorful for an 11 year old cigar. Thank you Bruce it was wonderful!
Had a couple great sticks on the weekend First was a CH Angels Anvil 2019 on Sat.and Tatuaje TAA2014
Congratulations on the marriage Ryan!

It's been so windy and s**tty outside I haven't smoked a thing since I got back from California. Hopefully no wind during this holiday weekend so I can finally get it on the fun, no wind would actually be a special occasion!
Padron Black No.89 TAA I was looking for a good opportunity to break out. Thanksgiving and the Saints/Falcons seems like as good a time as any.
2 days left guys. Supposed to snow for like 30 hours here the next couple days. Sometime late Saturday Night after a few ounces of bourbon and a couple beers I'll try to figure our a winner of this contest. Thanks to everyone that has entered, it's fun seeing the good s**t get smoked!
Finally got to smoke. 2015 Las Calaveras, pretty nice smoke!

I have a feeling I contributed that cigar!
What did you think?
Thanks very much to all who entered. I tallied 28 cigars that will no longer be hoarded. Well done!
I put everyone who entered in a spreadsheet in the order they posted. 1 for each cigar smoked and used random.org to pick a number.
22 came up...the winner is non other than ninfiction. Woot! I get to smoke more cigars I've been hoarding instead of sending them away!
:lmao: :lmao: Congrats to the winner!
