A humidor is a humidity-controlled box with components that create an ideal environment for your cigars to be stored in. But without humidifiers, cigar humidors are just boxes. It does control the moisture inside but it's the humidifier that creates the condition that helps your cigars age properly without drying out.

If your budget is tight, try a Tupperware with a little wad of cotton with distilled water. Keep the cotton faraway from the cigars and use a combo hygrometer/thermometer to see humidity and temperature (they should be around 70%/70 ºF).

The lower budget you'll buy an airtight plastic container (cleaned out) for your storage if you are doing not got to worry about temperature.

If the temperature is a problem then you would like a wine to adorn (wine fridge turned to cigar storage, thermoelectric) so you'll regulate the temperature.

Do not keep them at 70/70 (RH/temp). Experiment with what RH that works best for the environment you smoke in. for a few it's 65% et al. it's 75%.

As for humidification (even though you didn't invite that), I might accompany Heartfelt Beads or Boveda packs. If budget isn't a problem the inspect Cigar Oasis stuff!
