Just noticed this today. CI has a small warning box next to some smaller cigars that there are "Shipping Constraints ". There is no consistency to the warnings as many (even most) of the small cigars do not have these Shipping Constraints, and many are different. For example:
Shipping Constraints for Tatuaje Negociant Monopole No. 4 (Petite Corona) (4.1"x46) :
These items cannot be shipped to a Washington state address.
Ashton Small Cigars: No restraints on 8 facings, but one has:
Shipping Constraints for Ashton Mini Cigarillos - White Box:
These items cannot be shipped to a Pennsylvania address.
These items cannot be shipped to Maryland or Washington state addresses.
Due to UPS carrier restrictions, adding this item to your order will cause your entire order to be shipped via Basic Economy. Delivery estimate is 4-8 business days depending on your location.
Romeo y Julieta 1875 Cigarillos, 7 facings, no restraints.
Swisher Sweets Cigars and Cigarillos, no restraints.
Etc.etc
Any idea what is going on here?
CA now requires an adult signature for cigar deliveries. It must have been effective March 1 (shipping date) because I received orders after March 1, without a signature. Famous is currently passing on the signature cost to the customer; $5 UPS, $6 USPS, so free shipping is no longer free. I haven't ordered from anyone else since March 1, so I don't know what free shipping will cost in the future. I complained to Famous and got a refund but that is probably a one time deal.
How do they verify a signature is from an adult? This type of rules hurts adults more than teens. Most teens, from my experience, can find a young adult who will order for them.
