Title: All around newbie
Post by: Banksgars on 03/05/2020 06:48 PM
What's up everyone?
I am currently living in Alaska. I am still pretty new to cigars, and got the recommendation to join the site to help me learn as much as I can. Looking forward to trying new cigars and doing some reviews eventually! Going to be trying several Connecticut's to ease into the cigar world from the infused level! Excited to be an active member!

Welcome from Pittsburgh So you said your new, so I hope I am not insulting your knowledge, but Connecticut wrappers come shade grown and sun grown.  Shade tends to be milder but also a more fragile wrapper.  Don't be surprised if what you are smoking tears a little. The sun growns are slightly darker and a little more spicier and just a little more durable.

Here are a few Connecticut wrappers I like
Drew Estate Undercrown Shade - one of the very best
Room 101 Breakfast in Portugal (good budget price, can be had on cBid for an average under $3/cigar)
Roma Craft EC XVIII line, a number of vitolas available (most guys here will tell you I am whore for Roma Crafts)
Leaf & Bean by Oscar Connecticut - spicy, slightly more toward medium
Rocky Patel Connecticut, I'm not normally a big RP fan but his one is good and at about $5 a cigar)

I'll second the Roma craft EC.  Flatbed black natural is another solid Connie.

I actually did not know that about the difference in the wrappers. My cigar knowledge is very limited, so I won't be insulted by any mean. I really appreciate therecommendations, and I'll be adding these to my list of cigars to check out!

Chuck has some solid suggestions there!  I'll add that lately there have been some Connecticut Shade sticks come out with a Broadleaf binder that adds a little more flavor and strength if you want the next step up.  Joya de Nicaragua CT and Henry Clay Warhawk come to mind.  But the Romacraft is one of my favorite connie cigars as well.
