I sent invites to everyone who has posted regarding this pass. I know some of you are not able to play at this time, and that is fine but you will be missed.  If you haven't received an invite or know someone that needs and invitation let me know. The bovedas are ready and the digital hygrometer will be in the tuperdor for easy checking. I'm going to get it packed up and ready to roll out soon.  :dancing:  :dancing: (http://www.cigargeeks.com/../images/emoticons/HappyDance2.gif)

All aboard !!

Tracking says I'll get my hands on it Saturday!  Looking forward to it!

By the way - quick question... I thought I read something about someone putting a cigar in there specifically for someone.  Is that true, and if so, which one?  It would be my luck that that's the one I would wind up taking.

Mike

I haven't heard anything about anyone wanting anything in particular. I think it's safe to snag anything in the box. If anyone has made arrangements for a particular cigar please chime in and let us know.

Thanks,

Ron

What was the value on the H. Upmann?  Cuban for non Cuban?  I'm done in this pass, just asking for the rest.
Title: Re: Cigar Rights of America Pass (This Pass is in transition)
Post by: ninfiction on 08/03/2020 09:38 AM
It should be Cuban for Cuban, but that wasn't stated in the rules. It is how we roll around here usually.

They are harder to get a hold of while not always being highly priced.
Title: Re: Cigar Rights of America Pass (This Pass is in transition)
Post by: nirab on 08/03/2020 09:57 AM
That is not cool at all. Integrity and honesty is surely lacking in that last put/take. It shouldn't matter if it's in the rules or not. When you know better, you should do better.

The host of this pass may be fine with it, but I am not...

I respectfully request that I be removed from this pass...

In fairness, we could give Mike the benefit of the doubt before it goes nuts.  If he hasn't sent the pass it can be clarified or corrected.  We may not agree with the put, but it is a Hemingway Sungrown, which it appears are pretty hard to come across, it is not just a regular Hemingway.  May still want to keep it Cuban for Cuban (I would) but I am not sure this is egregious as at first glance.  Let's not jump to conclusions.

The H. Upmann  is $301 per box of 25. That's about 12 bucks each not including shipping and gymnastics to get it to your door. Just addressing the value question.

For a 2017 box??  Please send me a PM and tell me where to find them!  Those 2017 boxes have been sold out for over 2 years now from any sources that I "might" know about; they're unicorns.

Sorry, that's my bad.  I haven't participated in a pass for years and some of the unwritten rules lapsed in my mind.  I switched out the Cuban for the Padron 64.  Again, I apologize for my misunderstanding and mistake.

I will get the box on its way to MD today.  I'm planning on heading out once the worst of this tropical storm passes.  Should be this afternoon.

Sorry again about the mistake.  It has literally been 12 years since I last participated in a Pass.  As I mentioned before, the rules that we normally recognize, whether they're stated or not, completely slipped my mind.  It's no excuse, but that's my story (haha).  I hope my correction is adequate for the group.  I definitely did not mean to try to rip anyone off or be shady or anything along those lines.  Thank you for calling me out on it.  I hope this doesn't ruin any decent reputation or image yall had of me.  I love being a part of this community and want to stay in good standing with you.  Sorry for the speech, I'll shut up now.

Also, I was asked about one of my puts. The Davidoff Special 53 is the current rerelease, not an original from 2002.

Good morning,

I would like to apologize to the members of this pass. I reacted quickly, and in a negative way, before pausing, to speak my opinion. I was wrong to react as I did, and take full responsibility for my actions.

The trust, honesty and integrity of this site, and the folks who participate here, is simply incredible. It is the one of the reasons why I continue to be active here. I should have trusted the process to unfold as it should, and was wrong to react from a place of anger.

Ron, thank you for reaching out to me. If the group approves, I would like to rejoin the pass. If not, I understand completely.

Brian

Brian, no need to apologize.  You spoke up when you saw something wrong.  If you weren't one of the members who did so, I may not have taken notice of my mistake.  Sometimes you have to give, and in my case take, some tough love.  I appreciate you all, and if my vote counts for anything, of course I have no problem with you rejoining the pass.

I noticed that!  It went to Maryland, but turned around and went to NYC.  It was scheduled to arrive to Otter yesterday.  Not sure how that happened.  Sorry for the delay.  The Postal Service obviously screwed something up!

Option 1 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00284AG5U/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1)
Option 2 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002AS8NOA/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1)

I need to research the shipping cost for the larger container.  Are the cigars still in the cigar bags or can we gain some space by losing the bags?

Thanks,
Ron

Yes, we would gain space by not using the finger bags.  My only concern then would be the wrappers getting damaged.  its one thing to have them resting in a humidor at home but another bouncing around in the hands of USPS.  But I have seen passes done both ways.
The next size up is a large flat rate that adds $6 (total $21.10 vs $15.05) to shipping.   I have that large flat rate box plus a smaller sealable container that would hold another 10 cigars.

IMHO ur second list of much better match. Ur Maybe even over. FYI the Don Bosco is $10 and LE maybe HTF. Matches well with the Holy Lance. The Southern Draw is also $10 and matches well with the HVC or Symmetry
My other two are much less. The Juarez have dramatically dropped to about $5 or 6. The La Mission is $6

Just a suggestion, but it would help if prices were posted with puts.  Some of these sticks may not be readily available anymore and it would save those of us down the line the time spent researching to see what sticks are going for or have gone for in the past.  I tend to over-put and under-take just to make sure I'm good, which I would probably do anyway, but prices posted up front would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance if anyone decides to do this.   :smoker2:

From 2012

For those of you unaware, José Blanco worked for La Aurora for over two decades, most recently as their Director of Sales. In June of 2011, José announced he was stepping down from his position. He went on vacation and shortly thereafter began visiting potential new workplaces. While it was not the presumed favorite amongst those handicapping the José Blanco job search, he eventually chose Joya de Nicaragua and was named as Senior Vice President in August of 2011.

We had heard for months that Blanco was working on blends for his inaugural release, and in May of 2012, Joya de Nicaragua announced the fruits of their labors in a press release.

The initial press release announcing the cigar has quite a bit of information:

Departing from Joya de Nicaragua's traditional puros of all Nicaraguan tobaccos, the Cuenca y Blanco had been blended to be a cigar comprised of air-cured black tobaccos from four different countries of origin. This unique recipe is handmade with aged filler tobaccos including Habano Seed lead from Nicaragua's Estelí Valley and the volcanic isle of Omtempe, Piloto Cubano from the La Canela region of the Dominican Republic and an aromatic visa from Peru's famed Tarapoto region. The cigar is expertly finished in a beautiful Grade 1 Ecuador Habano wrapper. This complex blend is the fruit of nearly a year of ceaseless experimentation and has resulted in a very flavor smoke with a tantalizing aroma.

According to Blanco:

It is very exciting for me to make blends at a different factory and how accustomed to a new environment and their traditions. As many know, I have always been deeply fond of Nicaraguan tobaccos, but I am also very pleased to bring more origins, including my own Dominican heritage, to Joya de Nicaragua." José adds, "The Cuenca y Blanco is a symphony of well balanced tobaccos creating a rich and complex smoke, with lots of flavor which I always find important and with a type of strength satisfying for most smokers.

_______________________________________________________________________

The Cuenca y Blanco is scheduled to be released in boxes of 21 in five different vitolas at the show. They are:

Corona Real (5 1/2 x 46) — $7.25 (Boxes of 21, $152.25)
Robusto Deluxe (5 1/4 x 50) — $8.35 (Boxes of 21, $175.35)
Lonsdale Club (6 1/2 x 44) — $8.45 (Boxes of 21, $177.45)
Toro Supremo (6 x 54) — $9.35 (Boxes of 21, $219.45)
Torpedo Especial (6 1/4 x 52) — $10.45 (Boxes of 21, $196.35)

2-Illusione HL Holy Lance Lancero $9.93

HVC 500 Years Anniversar y$10

Ashton Symmetry Robusto $12

Maybe a couple of penny's difference!!!!

If anyone has a problem with my takes and puts PLEASE lmk, by Wednesday, if not I'm shipping this out.

I have to start using the keyboard and not the phone to post messages. So I can be sure everyone understands the tongue in cheek humor. I sent tfkirk a bunch of cigars that I just couldn't bring myself to toss out  and  I referred to them as Dog Rockets in our email conversation. His first puts were a list of the crap I sent him. I was out on the deck sucking on a Gurkha when I read his post. I was laughing my ass off spilling my scotch trying to thumb in a reply on my phone.   I hope there isn't any hard feelings with anyone I thought we were just having a little fun.   :-)

To my dear friends here that PMed me, Chuck whom I respect and to Ron whom I'm glad to have traded, passed, and pm'ed with recently, the best to all of you, BUT I won't be called out like this.

Zino Platinum Z-Crown Chubby Single Cigar $75.00

now you may have that confused with the Zino Platinum Scepter Chubby which goes for about $11/$12 a cigar

There's the price TODD, coming from you that has this in your humidor, and paid, and I may be wrong but since I'm looking up prices for cigars:

Caldwell Cigar Co. Anastasia Mercure (7 x 48, DR) 1   6/23/2020   62 Days   $20.00

Which is about $12/$13 a cigar

and

Cult Classic Torpedo (6.25 x 52, NIC)  1   6/23/2020   62 Days   $15.00

Which goes for about $8 a cigar

as 2 of your highest price cigars, with a lot of $2, $3, and $4 cigars, I take offence to the post that was directed to me personally. I will seriously think about not posting in here again. I have never called anyone out like this before, and this won't happen to me here again.

My final takes:

RoMa Craft Tobac CroMagnon EMH Don Bosco (5x56 NIC) (8/21/2020 7:28:09 AM)
Crowned Heads Juarez Willy Lee (6 x 54 NIC) (8/21/2020 7:28:09 AM)
L'atelier La Mission 1959 (4.75 x 52 NIC) (8/21/2020 7:28:09 AM)
Southern Draw Ignite 2019 San Andres No. 2 (7.5 x 50 NIC) (8/21/2020 7:28:09 AM)

Puts:

2-Illusione ~hl~ (Holy Lance) (7.5 x 40, HON) A Geek was looking for 1 of these just forget where in line they are so 2 should satisfy maybe?
1-HVC 500 Years Anniversary (5.875 x 52, NIC)
1-Ashton Symmetry Robusto (5 x 50, DR)

My apologies to all my Cigar Geek Brothers, Brian I'm still going to go through what we had planned, Gary my left coast brother forever, keep me abreast with any endeavors. I will PM everyone else that reached out to me. Ron I will PM you with all the shipping information.

Farewell my brothers and stay safe.

I have made arrangement for a new container and StogieDad has offered to swap with the currently over stuffed pass box. So we have one more turn before we can make the switch. It sounds like Kirk has us setup by rearranging things and we should be fine for the next turn. Please reach out if there are any concerns. Sorry for the little delay.  I finally got to the store to get a bigger Tupperware today and got my P/T together so I can get it boxed up tomorrow.  Had a new trainee this week so a little frazzled.

Did I send the Sistema Klip Container to the wrong address or was it too small also?  This is what I had shipped to you on August 27. Container Link (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00284AG5U/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Thank you for putting it together either way,

The tupperware was cracked on one corner and I put some tape on it, so hopefully it'll hold up at least until it arrives in CA.

Box received today.  Another trip, another cracked corner on the tupperware.  RH looked ok though.  I taped up the corner, it should hold ok.  I'll packing tape the other two un-cracked corners just in case it gets another rough ride.  I'll get my P's and T's done this weekend.

Pass transitioned, this will hit the road today.

I added some padding in the box to see if maybe that helps protect the tupperware.  The box was still serviceable but getting close to needing replacement.  Thanks for having me Ron!

Thanks to everyone for supporting this pass. This pass began with 13 cigars in a small container. It contained 10 sticks from a  CRA Sampler and 3 additional from my collection. The container has been replaced twice and has more than doubled in number of cigars and quality of cigars placed during the box pass by our members. Thanks again everyone involved.

I put in some extras. The KFCs have been sitting for about 5 years. So even though they smell strong, they should be easier on the palate. And they are double bagged separately as not to spread their smokey smell. The CAO MX2 Daggers are a tin of 5.

I will get this ready to ship to go out tomorrow. Thanks for having me.

The pass box arrived on Saturday. Thanks so much to all the who participated. The additional cigars are appreciated as well. I'll be closing out the pass feedback and will officially click the done button so the points can be awarded today or tomorrow. I'll try to post a picture or two of the final contents. I did see that only one cigar from the original 13 made it back to me. Well done everyone! I hope you all enjoyed this as much as I did. I have added a photo and inventory below of the collection of fine cigars that ended the Cigar Rights of America pass.
