Title: Second Growth?
Post by: ROTHNH on 05/29/2010 06:02 PM
I was invited to the Global Launch Party for Second Growth Cigars held Wednesday May 26, 2010 at Club Macanudo in NY, NY.

Cigar Agency in NH is doing the marketing on these and according to the hype, Second Growth is an exclusive cigar made by Henkie Kelner at the Tabadom Factory in Santiago. The boxes this cigar comes in are made from the actual wine barrels from St. Julien, France and only 400 of these vessels were made in the United States.

This was a big deal, but unfortunately I couldn't attend so I missed out on "a once in a lifetime opportunity" ...   Media Coverage from all over was  invited including Cigar Aficionado ... Hors d'Ouvres, Vodka, wine and tasting of the cigars was provided to your attendees.

A quick search reveals a box selling for just under $1,000US with actual prices over $600.  I see our Geeks data base lists this cigar but (no surprise) without reviews.

Fellow Geeks who are in the business -- I'd be interested in your input concerning Second Growth cigars.

This was actually mentioned on Winezealots.com.  Here is a bit more info.

"More info" is the key here, hence my post.

Hey no offense -- and thank you!

I'm  just wondering if anyone in the business has more details regarding Second Growth.
Title: RE: Second Growth? HEY, TIM...

I'd be interested to try them, even if just to see if they live up to their marketing. Tim, can you get these, or is NHCigars the only source?

At $40-$50 retail per cigar, how many do you want?

Again, info from a retailer's perspective would be both appreciated and interesting.

That would be why I was asking Tim, our resident retailer.

$40-50 per stick!  :-0  That better be one of the best cigars in the world.

At $40-$50 per stick I'll let somebody else try one and then read their review.  $50 will buy quite a few Punch Rothschild oscuros.

Yeah, I'll pass at that price.  It will be interesting to hear if Tim's shop has them or if he's heard anything about them.

Yeah, but if you buy the $650/20 you get a really cool box / humidor made out of old wine barrels!  http://nhcigars.com/Second-Growth-Cigar.asp

But actually ... the cigars are blended and produced at Davidoff. The packaging is immaculate.  The only "reviews" I have been able to find are just copy/paste from the blurb on the Second Growth website.  It seems pretty obvious to me that they are using the limited production and packaging to try to attract the elitists of the world.  The fact that there were only 300 boxes available in the U.S., and that they are still being sold at NH tells me something ...

Not sure if we will be getting any to be honest. Davidoff rep is coming around next week though so I can inquire and maybe score a sample. :shades:
