Title: 2022 FFL Cigar Geeks (looking for a new commish this year)
Post by: johncw on 07/23/2022 01:28 PM
Happy July Geeks,

It's almost August so figured it's time to get the league started. First I want to give everyone in the league last year a chance to rejoin first then if there are spots open I will open it up to all the Geeks. Again this year we will all be putting up 5 cigars ($7+) and one really nice cigar ($12+). I'm requesting everyone send me the cigars again this year. Regular season winner gets the ($12) cigars. Winner of the playoffs gets everyone's 5 cigars and 2nd place of the playoffs gets the 5 cigars 1st place put up.

We will again try and do a Online Draft and Google Herf. Only takes about an hour.

Also try and log in to NFL.com and go to the league again.

Gronkman Style (John) - Cigars  in
Chief the Whole F'n Show (Ken) in cigars in
Redneck Warriors (Jason)

I'm going to have to sit this out. I know of at least 4 weekends I'll be traveling and time will be limited.

However, if you end up short a spot I'll take it so you have a full group.

Need to check in with rman. Then we'll see where we are with players. Would like to do late in Aug or early Sept draft again if that works for most of everyone.

No response from Rman. So we can ride with 10 or try and get 2 to make 12. Thoughts?

My brother would play or not play, so that's cool. I think we should try to pick up 2 geeks if we can, if not then my bro would sit out and we can roll with 10. But we have a few weeks to see if anyone else would like to join!! It really has been a fun laid back/ but competitive league since I've joined!

So geeks if your on the fence step right up to the longest running fantasy football league on cigar geeks!! For you chance to win fabulous prizes!!! Do you have wait it takes to bring home the coveted trophy?! Well let's see if you have what it takes against 11 other cigar smoking, football fanatics!!! (That was my promo, how'd I do) :smoker: lol

Let's get 2 more geeks and make it a full league!!! :bigthumbs:

Ahhh ok...so he's in lol. We still need 2 more Geeks  it's a fun league geeks! I'm not a salesmen, but league is always more fun with more people :smoker: would be great to fill the last 2 spots, but 10 will work as well. We"ve got a few weeks though so if you are on the fence, we'd love to have you!!!

Thanks, John!  Monday 9/5 works for me (my birthday, actually...so I assume you'll all go easy on me!).

For scoring, did we include the following last year?

Kickoff and Punt Return Yards:1 point per 25 yards
Kickoff and Punt Return Touchdowns:6 points

It's pretty unusual to give points to individual players for return stuff (usually just TDs to the Defense and ST's), but I'm all for trying something new.  Just might change the research I do...

Yup we've always played this rule, it's why Tyreek Hill and Cordell Patterson had some real good value there a couple of years lol - there's still a few "dual threat guys" - one of the little things we do differently :smoker:

Sept 5th works for me as well John! Thanks again for keeping this going! And as for my real my real brother, this is fantasy football bro, 2nd place is the 1st Loser, put your game face on lol

Last couple of years I've just set it to auto generate an order right before the draft... If everyone would like to know before hand we can certainly do that as well.

I didn't make any changes to any scoring or positions. If we roll with 10 we can add another flex spot if everyone is agreeable.

Have we decided to keep it at the current time (9pm Eastern)?  Just want to make sure I'm on...only supposed to be 110 F outside at that time here in balmy California...LOL...Looks like I'll be chilling in the house without a cigar this year.

It is 9pm eastern. Not sure I can change it even if we wanted to. Or we could split the difference to 930eastern. Last year it took about 1 hr to complete. I'll go with the consensus here.

I'm central so it's 8pm for me, I can for sure understand the East Coast time geeks not wanting to shift more, it does go pretty quick. I'm fine either way...I get up early as well, but again I'm central time so it's not as a big of deal to me, if good with whatever everybody wants to do :smoker: happy Labor Day!!! And good luck!!! :smoker:

Very strange things happened. I went into last night's game down 27 points to win our super bowl. I have Joe Burrow as my qb so there is a possible way for me to win. The unbelievable injury happened to a Bill's player causing the game to be suspended. No word from the NFL if the game will be made up. Hopefully the Bill's player will make a full recovery.
Title: Re: 2022 FFL Cigar Geeks
Post by: johncw on 01/04/2023 11:55 AM
Ken and Adam, I,m going to wait and see how the app handles the game being suspended. It's a very unfortunate event happening on championship weekend in most leagues. Our league is for fun but also understand there is a hefty prize at stake as well. I was very excited to see hiw this played out, but when someone's life is threatened like that on a routine play it is really scary.

If they make up the game I believe the stats should count. If they don't I'm honestly at a loss

John

Makes sense. If they don't make up the game I'm sure we can figure out a solution. No worries.

100% agreed...what a tragedy! I of course was watching and it was going to be an exciting finish!! I hear he is doing better, which is great news! Agreed as well, let's see how this is handled, it's not just our league, there's a ton of fantasy championships on the line, so I'd think they'd come up with some type of solution. And Burrow and for sure put up 30+. If not and they for some reason cancel the game, I say we can split the winnings Chief. Nobody wants to win or lose like that so makes sense to me brother. It's been an amazing season as usual it's unfortunate it's ending like this, but at any rate we don't have to make this difficult
Title: Re: 2022 FFL Cigar Geeks
Post by: chief791 on 01/06/2023 08:09 AM
I totally agree. Let's see what happens and I am totally fine with splitting the winnings. It's been another great season. I always have the best time in this league. Thank god this young man is making great strides at recovering. What a scary situation.

It looks like they are going to cancel the game. Very unfortunate situation all around. Ken let's spilt the winnings, congratulations on a great season!! I was really looking forward to it coming down to the last Monday night game of the season, and Burrow got off to a hot start for sure, was going to be an epic game!! I really wanted my revenge for you dropping "a league record" 198 points on me earlier in the season!! Congrats again!

John thank you again for hosting and running the league I always have a great time in this league, it's a fun league and I've enjoyed playing every year, I'm already looking forward to next year!!

I also again read that Hamlin was still slowly recovering, so let's all keep praying for that young man!!

I totally agree. Great season Adam and as usual I really enjoyed this league. I play in 3 different leagues every year but this is my favorite by far. Love the cigar aspect of it. Thank you again for all the extra work you put in here. Can't wait for next year. Congratulations Adam on your great season. I am In total agreement on splitting the prize. I believe it is a very fair way to resolve this ordeal and we both walk away with a nice prize. Easy fix and a fair one.

Not a problem guys. I'll make sure you get each others prize packs and will just randomly split the rest between you both.

Chuck, don't worry haven't forgotten about you either. Regular season sticks will go out once I receive Jason's buying.

Thanks
John

You are the man John...thanks again for running the league. Appreciate you splitting them up for us! :smoker: can't wait for next season! Love playing in this league with you guys

I had a note a couple months ago the league being setup...I know John has been busy, and was going to step aside being Commish, but decided to stick it out the last couple of years, I hope so as well, always a fun league :smoker:

Hey everyone, sorry I've just had a lot going on. I'd like to see if anyone would be interested in taking over the commissioner's spot moving forward? I believe I can assign co commissioner's duties and then remove myself. So please let me know if you are interested and would love to see this get back to 12 teams.

John

I just don't have the time, or I would step up. Anyone out there willing to? I will offer up a 10pk to the new commish who commits...yes, cigar bribery!!

I'll kick in a 5"er for the new Commish as well. I'm starting a special assignment out of town for work in November...be great to get back to 12 teams, need a new geek!

To keep it together, I don't mind running it, as long as everyone is fine with the way I run baseball.  I am not on as much anymore, I am available, but there's not a ton of daily hands on, I let the league run and pay up when its over.  If that is cool, I don't mind keeping the band together.

We've got no traction on this to pick up another geek. I'm in enough fantasy leagues already. As much as I love this league, and playing with everyone it's just not as fun with 10 teams. We honestly, if you look at the calendar, only have 11 days to pick a draft time we can agree on, and get another geek to make it a full 12. I'll step aside and let Mr Cordell play, and he'd make 10. I'll still shoot you over a 5"er Stogie for stepping up and trying to keep this together if you guys end up having a league. That was a solid move brother, it's a shame, but it seems like the interest has really fallen off the past 2 years. It's fine it happens to these leagues all the time. Again, I'd really prefer not to play another year of 10 teams. Good luck to all, it's been a fun ride for sure I'd love to see it keep going, but there's just not enough interest it seems. Thanks again! John you've been an amazing Commish! Stogie I'm sure you'll make a great Commish as well! Again good luck to all!

I can't speak for my brother IndyGopher, but he doesn't smoke cigars much at all anymore and I picked him up a couple of years ago to help fill this league. Again I can't speak for him, I'll reach out and see if he wants to play, but I'd guess if I'm getting out, then he probably won't want to be in either. I text him n ask him to post. Thanks again to all for trying to keep this league going. Just doesn't look like it's going to happen. No traction all month, it really is a shame. Thanks again John & good luck to the rest of you guys!

Hey everyone, I just talked with Adam and I'm going to bow out this since he's not playing.  I've not been active in the cigar world for a while anyway, so it seems like the right time to step away. Appreciate you guys letting me play the past couple years and hope you enjoyed my sticks since I never won lol!

Well I guess it doesn't look good for our league. Hopefully we can pull it off but it doesn't look good. I'm still in if we can fill the slots up. Im fine with a 10 team league. Still Don't have a draft day.

Hey y'all...are we doing this?  I'm totally in if we do but we are running out of time...10 teams is fine with me!
