Hi, Lou.  Welcome to CG!  Don't mean to sound skeptical, but you show up today out of the blue and start not one, but two, threads asking about our thoughts on the negative responses in CA to one of our own member's letter to the editor.  Funny how you knew which cigar board to come to . . . I don't think that our CG brother mentioned CG in his letter.  :?:

My guess is that you are either associated with CA or one of their advertisers, or you're a reporter.

If I'm wrong, then please call me out on it.  If I am correct, then kindly state your intentions and you will find that we are all MORE than happy to share our opinions.  Thanks!

Odds are, it was just Christopher62 trying to think of a clever way to begin the conversation. If you search the forums, you'll see he hasn't posted on CG in the last month, yet was able to post a reply in 10 minutes.

Regardless, now I, too, have to go to the mailbox to see if I got mine.

It definitely was not Christopher.  I can track that stuff, plus he's always been a very stand up guy.

I also don't see why someone would come on the site to stir this up so I think we need to give HeresJohnny the benefit of the doubt.  Not exactly a warm reception for a new member.  :-(

You might want to make sure his check clears before you start talking about Corey in such a manner. ;-)

Seriously, though, we're a pretty tight-knit community around here, sometimes to a fault.  We can be quick to pass judgment.  We're also pretty good about owning up to our errors and lapses of sensibility, so like Corey, I apologize if anything we've said has ticked anybody off.

Welcome AMD

I have used your products for years.  Much less expensive than Intel.

(Thread Hijack in Progress!)

During my interview with AMD last week, I mentioned that I felt my writing skills stayed sharp because of my hobby/habit of writing about cigars constantly. I was feeling really relaxed, evidently, because I tend to stay away from the topic of tobacco with employers. You never know when you are going to lose a chance because the hiring manager is anti-tobacco...

Anyway, the next day I was told by the recruiter that they wanted to see writing samples. I sent them training work I had developed, but got a second call: "they want to see your writing about cigars" the recruiter said with a question mark in his voice...

 :-0

...so I sent them a link to my CG reviews along with their own ID and password!

I'm still wondering if they got to this review: "I suppose if you licked buttholes for a living, the flavors of this cigar would be a step up. Slightly."

Well, I started it, because I too am very protective of this site and its members.  I did welcome HeresJohnny (Lou) and then I asked a straightforward question, and I am ready to accept being tarred and feathered if I am wrong.

So, Lou, please don't let me intimidate you.  Please join us in the discussion.  As you can see they are all ready to hang me for my lack of manners.  Mea culpe! :-(

Lou,

You are more than welcome here, trust me!  Feel free to post away!  Get into the mix and let us know who you are!  We can be jerks without a doubt, but PLEASE don't let our somewhat sophomoric behavior run you off so quickly.  You didn't start the earthquake, we did.  Believe it or not, having known these guys and gals for going on a couple of years now, I can honestly say that this is the most friendly place I've found on the net.  I know more about some of these folks than people I've met face to face and call friends.

Get to know us a little more before you make any hasty judgments.  We really are a good bunch, even that Cordell fellow.  We've just been through some troll issues and have had some high dollar passes go missing.  I hope you can understand our defensive nature.  Take it all with a grain of salt.  Hang out and have some fun with us.  If anyone gives you a hard time from here on out, they'll have to deal with me!

Sincerely,

Dave

Lou,

I think to understand the reaction to this thread, it would be helpful to know that the person who wrote the letter to the editor you referrred to is a member here at Cigar Geeks.

Your opening remarks in this thread "... what the hell did that guy (Dearborn Heights) say to get everyone so pissed off??? "  seemed kind of inflammatory to me, and somewhat of an rebuke of Christopher62.  Perhaps others had the same reaction.

Then you'll be the ONLY one on this forum who doesn't!

Welcome, Lou.  I'm sorry to see you had a rocky introduction to the Geeks.  Don't worry about that though since we have the collective attention span of a gnat and will soon forget all abo...

Seriously, there is no flaming on this site but there is frequent lively discussion which sometimes gets a little out of bounds.  No one is ever seriously hurt and I can only recall one person marching off in a full bore huff.  And they took offense at comments about Chelsea Clinton, of all people.  Most times all you have to do to stifle an argument is toss in a verbal rabbit and everybody goes hounding off after it.  Gives a new meaning to ADHD.  Don't be shy.

Again, welcome.   :welcome:

QuoteHeresJohnny - 9/1/2010 7:21 AM geez, i'm sorry to start such a earthquake on this board. ..... guess i didn't make such a great first impression. ... this wasn't exactly the 'welcome' i had hoped for. lou

Gotta agree with Les here...remember the saying about "sometimes you don't get a second chance to make a first impression" is very true here.  Not having a history about you...how you interract, how you joke, how you talk, how you think...what you're all about will tend to raise antennaes not only here but anywhere.  Guess it's on you Lou to take another stab at making another impression.  People here are pretty decent and accepting but at the same time protective of a place they call home.

Welcome Lou!  Sorry for the jump to conclusions that happened.  We're normally better than that.

"Lou", welcome to a site of well-mannered frivolity and intellectual chitchat amongst cigar-smoking brethren of goodwill.

Good day sirs!

When I worked in a restaurant one of the cooks would always pick up the phone when I walked in the kitchen and say "Rich, Dee's on the phone?"  "Dee's?"  To which he'd respond "DEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZ Nuts!"

I admit, I've been a little paranoid about people online ever since that chick I met online turned out to be a dude.  :-0 QUOTE]

I hate it when that happens  :-(
