Title: I lost my damn cutter!
Post by: Bob Cordell on 09/28/2010 09:28 PM

I had a real nice double blade guillotine cutter and somebody's carried it off!

I got a little knife and cut a V but it mangled the head a bit! I've rubbed the head on a brick back and forth slowly to scratch off a toke hole as well.

I aint biting the head off like a Clint Eastwood movie, whats you solution in a pinch?

Some turd lifted my cutter!

That sucks!

Fingernails do work well in a pinch.

I got 2 double blade stainless steel guillotine cutters for $0.50 each on cbid. They are actually pretty good.  I could send you one.

A razor sharp knife around the cap of a parejo will get me by most times.

No bueno. Those steel cutters from cbid are nice though.

I have friends that just use a wooden matchstick to poke a hole.  Seems too restrictive to me, but I guess you could just poke a few holes to open it up.

QWhen caught w/o my Xikar, I've used a very sharp knife. Carefully.

Mine's an Swiss Army Officer's pocket knike that I've carried in my watch pocket for years.

Bummer! I lost my cutter a few days ago and tried using a cheap plastic freebie that came with sa sampler from CBID I think...it was awful, it absolutely demolished my poor innocent cigar...:( the only thing I could think of doing after that was sacrificing it in a small fire...so I did :)

If I was without my normal cutter, I'd grab one of my backup cutters, or my punch.

If I don't have a cutter, I will use a sharpened pencil.  I will bite a torpedo.

I whine, bitch, and carry on until somebody gets tired of my shyt and lends me a cutter to shut me up.

What kind of Cigar Geek has only one cutter??

For as much as you order, you should have at least half a dozen "freebie" cutters sitting around.  Did you check in the pockets of that fancy smokin' jacket of yours?

At least someone didn't lift your turd cutter!

I've been without a cutter a couple of times.  If I have a ball-point pen handy (the kind with a clicker on top), I un-screw the pen barrel, and use the male threaded end as a punch.  It's kind of shaped like a punch...just have to be careful because, no kidding, they're usually quite dull.  Gets the job done though.

I've also used a box cutter.  Didn't slice the cap, I used the corner of the cutter to cut a circle in the cap and then pinched off the part I cut out.

Also you can use a large nail as a punch.  Don't use a screw though, it'll grab the wrapper and tear the crap out of it.

You got this one right, you only had one cutter Bob?  The only one I lost was when the little rat bastards broke into my car and stole my cutter and a Ronson Jetlite

Go get yourself 50 good cutters, I'm sure the people stealing from you could use a few extras in case they lose them.

I wonder if a Dremel with a fine grinder tip could make a nice little indentation on a parejo shaped cigar?

I'll need to remember the sharpened pencil trick, although I cut vs. punch.  I suppose you could use a sharp knife, especially with torpedos.

You could use the cutting wheel attachment for your torpedoes.

I've found if you use alternate means of cutting, you tend to be more successful if you moisten the tip first... that's what she said.

Considering this is actually a 2010 Thread that Kent (our resident Jesus of threads) resurrected last week, I'm pretty confident Bob either found a new cutter by now, or he just plain quit smoking cigars since he could no longer cut them

You could just smoke it backwards I suppose. Then you wouldn't need to cut it.
