We have a today's smoke thread, so I figured we should have a coffee thread to accompany it.
Today was a dunkin donut pumpkin spice. Still going through it from the beginning of fall. It's ground coffee that I make myself since there isn't a dunkin in sight from the Denver area. The pumpkin spice isn't the best in my opinion, so I'm just trying to use it up.
What's your coffee today?
Folger's Gourmet Blend in my cup...usually every morning. Brewed strong and black. Although I enjoy the rarer blends I also like plain old Folger's.
My office has free Starbucks House Blend, ground and brewed a cup at a time. Although I really don't like Starbucks, it is better than the alternative - Maxwell House or nothing.
Starbucks Via Italian Roast.
From Costco. Pleasant Hills Farms Gourmet Selection. I make it the night before and wake up to it every morning. Better than supermarket coffee and cheaper than Starbucks, Seattle's Best, Austin Chase, Forza etc........
My coffee is whatever the chow hall serves up, which is better than most. :-)
I drink 2 cups a day.
San Francisco Bay brand French Roast from Costco brewed strong.
4 - 6 cups per day.
Well it's maxwell house today, and most days for easy morning coffee. Otherwise it's usually whole bean Eight O'Clock. Depending on the day I drink from 2- 12 cups a day. :-)
Not being a big coffee drinker, I thought this was another "guess the size" thread.
Like cigars, for me, it's a lot about value.
I try to stock Berkley & Jensen Guatemalan Dark Roast beans (2.5 pound bags), $12.95. BJ's is an East Coast chain of food warehouse stores (like Cosco and Sam's) and I grind the beans (very fine) daily.
I stock up when I visit family, since the closest BJ's is 90 minutes away, I'm not a member but my in-laws are and they live near BJ's.
If I run out and can't get to BJ's to restock, there are a couple local coffee roasters who make decent dark roasts at about double the price of my BJ's brand.

I have a BJ's close to where I work, so I'll have to give that roast a shot. Thanks for the tip.

NP, Nathan.
I may be a little off on the price but if so, not by much. I started buying this brand more than a dozen years ago when I lived in NH (it was $7.95 back then) and like most things, it's gone up, but is still an exceptional value. BJ's also stocks 2.0 - 2.5 lb. bags of other house brands, such as 100% Columbian Supremo, Hawaiian and others. They also sell Starbucks at a reduced price but of course, it's still a lot more $$ than BJ's blends.
Of course, BJ's requires a membership (I think it's $40 a year for family membership) but when I was a member, they'd mail us promotions like $10 "Valued Member" cerificates on occasion and monthly member-only coupon books on tons of items. If you have a freezer, you can make up that membership fee in no time on their meat alone.
Nothin' says lovin' like BJ's in a cup! Saaayy, now! That's pretty catchy!

Heh!
"Peet's" French Roast, fresh brewed is unbeatable!!
At work drinking the free Crappola that they supply us with. No complaints though, it could be nothing. I drink way too many cups to count while on nights.
Looking forward to a nice pot of Blue Mtn. blend when I get up tomorrow. Tonight's my last shift for three days so I should have time to enjoy a cigar with that coffee. :dancing:

It's sorta like a missile launch with the hatch cover popping off before the missile goes...same principle
Brewed up some Dunkin Dark (Dunkin Donuts) for the guys at work. It went over well. Only one guy thought it was too dark for him... Sissy! Dunkin coffee was on sale at Target, so I stocked up on pretty much every flavor.
Dunkin Donuts and coffee are pretty good. Too bad we do not have stores in CA.

Had a few Hampton Inn " Robusts" and Panera "Hazelnut" Aaah life on the road. I miss my homebrew. :-(
Some Columbian blend from the office with cream and sugar. Not sure who makes it, but it works for me.
made a pot of Harry and David's Moose Munch flavored coffee. Its' like drinking candy!
I'm trying out a new French press with some Columbian Supremo this morning. The coffee is great in the drip pot so it should be much better from the press.

Ah! The French press worked great! Very nice cup of smooth, strong coffee. I was tempted to try some of the espresso beans I fetched home the other day but I've already got enough caffeine on board to last the rest of the day.
The same thing we've been brewing at the school for over five years . . . San Francisco Bay French Roast.
We, too, tried the French Press and loved it. But we sent it back in a week.
The problem is you can't keep the coffee hot in a French Press unless you make just enough to serve immediately. With just the two of us, having to come back an make more coffee two or three times each morning for our second and third cups got old fast.
I see that they now offer an update to the French Press that's insulated stainless steel instead of the classic Pyrex version, but that wasn't available back when.
Got a French press, and am very happy with it. Made some fresh ground Kenyan last night.

We don't intend to completely abandon Mr. Coffee. It will still do yeoman's duty most mornings. The French press will be reserved for those times when I feel like messing around with it and making that extry special cup. Granted, the classic glass version won't keep the coffee hot long but any leftovers can be decanted into a vacuum cup or thermos. I fully intend to consume the product before it has a chance to get cold though.
Makes me think I should grind some of them Sumatra beans Santy put in my stocking for my evening cup...

I use the cold, leftover coffee for iced coffee. Great stuff.
Yesterday : Starbucks Sumatra
Today: Maxim coffee mix (with the creamer and sugar already in the pre-measured packet). Paired with a Cubao No. 5
French Vanilla from Wawa. It's a cheap and quick pick me up.
I'm almost through my thermos of Yuban. The. I'll have to figure something else to drink to keep the withdrawal headache away
Damn caffeine addiction
Found some holiday egg-nog flavored coffee in the back of the cupboard this morning, so brewed it up. Great for a nostalgic moment, and a nice changeup from the usual french roast.
Never could stand the taste of coffee. Maby because growing up on the farm my folks would drink the
stuff out of the red can that would sit on the counter for months at a time. I was thinking of getting a
french press and some gourmet coffee to see if my tastes have changed.
What would you coffe experts recommend?
I live in a town of 250 people, no fancy coffee shops around here.

Coffee, like so many other things (beer/cigars), is an acquired taste. I couldn't stand the stuff until college, and even now, I'm not a fan of the big chains (Starbucks/DD).
I'm not an expert, but I've found some good info here:
http://www.coffeereview.com/
My coffee today is a blend of 50% Dunkin Donuts Dark ground coffee and 50% Sumatra Decaf I roasted about 5 days ago.
Lot's of flavor from the sumatra decaf, and the Dunkin Dark gives it enough caffeine to make it a pick me up cup.
Added 2 sugars, one milk and it tastes terrific ! ! ! !

I really like this one and the price($8 per pound) is good. However there shipping rates($7.95 for 1 pound) suc. I used to get it through a local shop that recently closed down thanks to the Starbucks(can't stand most of there stuff) invasion. They charged $10.?? a pound vs the $8.00 a pound online. It was worth it so that I did not have to drive to downtown Houston. But with there shipping rates I may have to start driving there. Maybe I can check into what it would cost me to ship you out a pound next time I venture downtown. If your interested I'll give it a whirl but it may be a bit before I get downtown. There regular Blue Mountain is even better but a bit to costly at the rate I drink coffee. I think it is ~$30 a pound.
Edit: Today's cup would be another tall serving of the crap they give us at work. It ain't much but it's free and has caffeine in it.

I do that too sometimes when I'm at work because it never fails, I pour a cup of coffee and then I get a call to leave and by the time I return the coffee is cold. Instead of dumping it out I'll just have iced coffee.

I had a project with them a couple of years ago. They run like a government subsidized company, spend lots of money, go through the motions, and produce very little.

Hmm I was seriously hoping they would bring some good cars to market. I don't agree with subsidizing businesses, too bad. I work for a manufacturing company, it's always make it faster cheaper and better. Startup companies, and emerging technology companies tend to spend lots and produce little.
