Title: The Father in Law Bomb
Post by: Robert LG on 03/18/2011 09:10 PM
I'll first apologize that this will not hit any of the fellow geeks here I just needed to share this.

Last weekend while fishing at his property with my daughter and smoking San Cristobals that I provided my father in law offered to fix the window motor in my wife's car.  He is an ex-glass man and his best friend is still in the glass business.  They have tools that make this job easier than what the average guy might have including me.  Well, yesterday they delivered the car back to us(yeah I did not even have to go get it) and much more than the window motor was repaired.  The windshield that had a large crack in it was replaced.  The headlight covers that were very hazy due to age were polished back to a nice clear state(much safer at night).  The car was washed.  On top of all of this he would not let us pay for anything.  A gesture like that cannot go unpunished.  As much as he liked the San Cristobals I bombed him with 10 Clasico's today and will continue to send mortars his way.  In my book he is a very deserving recipient.

Both of my Father-in-laws were great guys unless you talked to my Mother-in-laws.

When Stan, my first FiL, passed away, I think I was the only one that cried.  He was a coarse old !@#%$er.  He'd been a boat builder up in NY and had moved his family down to St. Augustine in the early 1970's.  The 70's fuel crisis put a damper to the pleasure boating industry, so Stan went into the land-clearing business.  A couple of dump trucks, bulldozers. etc later, he'd built his own little empire.  Unfortunately, some of the folks into refuse disposal also followed him down to Florida and ran him out of business.

My second FiL, Leroy, was a "deadbeat Dad" until Hunter was born.  Mary Ellen, my wife's mother, packed Diana and her sister up and left.  Leroy liked to booze it up a bit and it got to the point Mary Ellen had enough.  She moved herself and the kids from Chicago to Quincy, FL, then Tallahassee, and finally Montgomery, AL.

Leroy, it seems, had a big problem with the fact that Lee, my sister-in-law and my wife's older sister, had married a black man.  After Diana gave birth to our son Hunter, I got Diana back in contact with her father, and subsequently, him back in contact with his other daughter.  Leroy has since passed away, but I think he was glad to know he had some great grandsons.

RIP Stan and Leroy!  Have your Gin and Tonic and Old Style, respectively speaking, and smile down on us!

Great going Rob...  Just so long as they go to someone who enjoys them and we're all happy 'round here.

That's a great gesture on your father in law's part ... good for him!  I am sure the return bombings will be appreciated :-)
