Title: Has anyone left a cigar outside over night
Post by: Romeo on 06/07/2011 07:53 AM
Has anyone left a cigar outside over night in the ashtray and went out the next day and finished it? :smoker2:

Can't say I have.

Plenty of times....sometimes more than one night...sometimes I have a cigar and want a little more so I'll have the last third or quarter, or inch of something left over from the day or two before.

I'd say it has to depend on where you live & the time of year.  Here in Western Washington, chances are slim to none that a cigar can be left outside overnight and finished the next day.

Same here.  I've done it once or twice before, usually during the summer.  They don't fair well in 90+ degree temperatures and 75%+ humidity.

Tried to a couple times but the cigar always exploded.

If I wanna save a cigar for another round the next day, I purge it, cut it and store it in a tube overnight. (I have a glass tube just for half smoked cigars)

In NY state, if you leave a cigar out overnight, it will explode (swell and split) because the temp drops so far at night I think.

Nope.  Nothing against you folks who do, I just don't.  If I only smoke half of a cigar, that tends to signify that I'm not enjoying that particular stick.  And if I don't enjoy something the first time around, I'll probably enjoy it even less upon re-lighting.

Yup and it does stink sometimes. I usually slice off the bad bit and exhale the first puff and then it settles down. This is assuming the Raccoon did not get it.

Never have done that. I don't think I would want to either.

I have a number of times, usually they do ok, as stated before, as long as the weather is on your side.

I have, but try to smoke them the same day, since I live on the coast and humidity can be a problem when a cigar is left out too long.

Its hit or miss if they are smokeable the next day.  Depends on humidity and heat, as Nate said.  Of the dozen times I've tried this, 75% were brittle and hot ashes flaked off too easily.  Flavor in 90% of them was not nearly as good as when it was started, or even downright awful.  Its rarely worth the effort for me.

Where I live the summer humidity is too much - 75% to 90% or more. On a really humid day I'm doing well if I can smoke a whole cigar before it becomes a soggy mess.  Leaving one out overnight would require dry-boxing it for a week ... just not worth it.

Like KennyG, I have a large tubo that I can store it in - after purging and clipping - if I really feel the need to save the thing.

I've got the exact opposite problem...No humidity at all.  Sometimes I can't get a whole cigar smoked before it dries out too much and the wrapper starts breaking up.  Especially on a thinner wrapper.  On a hot, windy, dry day, I almost have to go with a Connecticut Broadleaf or some other thick wrapper, hence the La Flor de Cano I had earlier.  With 10% humidity, 25 mph wind and 101 degrees, my choices can be pretty limited sometimes.

I've done it a couple of times. The humidity is usually pretty good in this area so they tend to be okay if it is only a day or so.  So long as they don't get wet I haven't had any problems.

Tried it once and it was not worth the effort to relight it.  It didn't have the smoking and flavor characteristics of a fresh cigar.  I just alot myself enough time to smoke a cigar without interruption or I don't smoke one

I've never tried to fire on up again after being out for the night.  They don't usually look very appealing after the morning dew hits them.
