Room 101 Farce Esteli 660 4 Star Rating
By: tuck0411 (05/23/2024 04:44 PM)
Humidor time: 128 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 70, foot - 60
Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of dark wood, coffee, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was quite tasty with just enough spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (31/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20)

Overall impression: Got a 10-pack of these awhile back from Cigar Page when they were on sale. I'd previously tried a couple of Farce blends (not Esteli) and those were both pretty good so I figured this probably would be as well.  And it was, with both flavors and construction getting the job done. Will definitely enjoy smoking up the rest of this batch and will likely pick this up in other vitolas as I see them on sale.  (31/35)

I Am Stunned
Review by Richard on 19 May 2024
I have never smoked an ersatz Cuban before, however, as I am down to my last two Montecristo No.1s Habanos in my humidor, I figured I'd give it a try. This one was highly recommended and I like the Belicoso shape, and it was wonderfully affordable. So, I bought a 5-Pack and I am very glad I did. This cigar is made perfectly. The feel, the draw, the color, the aroma both before lit and the smoke, and the blend was perfect. I could easily substitute this for several proper Cubanos and not lose a thing in the transition. I think I've found another permanent resident of my humidor.

Solid, oily, dark brown, almost reddish, wrapper, no veins   PLA hint of barn; PLT wine barrel; PLD moderate.  A pretty quick toast & light, an even burn, a moderate draw, & faintly barn-y wood.  Aged wine barrel wood, a bit of leather & some white pepper in mouth & nose are the leads.  Strength is upper medium.  The wood, a mixture of oak, hickory & charcoal, intensifies in the 1st 1/3.  Later coffee bean adds its note.  By the 1/2 the wood & coffee rule, & the pepper has faded & turned black on the retro.  The strength is full now.  The finale profile & finish are wood & coffee with touches of earth & leather.  Potent flavors but the body is only medium.

Humidor time: 127 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 60, foot - 51
Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a firm pack with no soft spots.  Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium+ profile with a spicy retro and notes of dark wood, spice, and a hint of coffee. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was quite flavorful with just enough spice in the mix and an overall sense of quality tobacco being present. Strength was about medium. (32/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn was slightly wavy but self-correcting through the first third with the ash falling past 1" leaving a small cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (19/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their "Brian's Box" selections awhile back. First smoke I've had from this brand which appears to be a United Cigars sub-brand. Very enjoyable it was with both flavors and construction getting the job done and I'd easily smoke it again. (32/35)

A firm stick, some mottling of the medium brown wrapper, one vein & good oils.  PLA green wood & earth; PLT corky plywood; PLD moderate.  An easy toast & light, a moderate draw, an even burn, & a dry wood smoke.  Starters are wood, mustiness & a bit of herbal spice in mouth & nose.  Flavor strength is medium.  The wood rules the 1/3, the already-spare spice fades & some dirty earth & a touch of coffee bean join.  The wood gets ashy in the 2nd 1/3.  Past the 1/2 the wood ash backs down, the coffee is more defined & the profile smooths out some.  The finish is coffee, earth & wood.  The body is medium.  Mostly smokeable.

Humidor time: 155 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 59, foot - 50
Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a double shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a full-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of black pepper, black coffee, leather, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors mellowing just a bit through the first third but otherwise staying consistent throughout. Very tasty, overall, with just enough spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (31/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, smoke volume on the low side of optimal, and an even burn to start. Smoke output gradually improved through the first third and reached optimal about 1" in. The burn was slightly wavy but self-correcting through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining mostly optimal from the first third on. (18/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their "Brian's Box" selections awhile back.  Pretty enjoyable full-bodied smoke with nice flavors and decent construction. It wasn't quite as good as 2022's version but better than the three previous years (according to my reviews of those sticks). Definitely good enough to smoke again. (30/35)

Rock hard, dark brown, slightly mottled, oily wrapper, pig-tailed cap, 1" shag foot, no veins.  PLA barn wood; PLT old wood; PLD moderately easy.  A quick toast & light, a moderately easy draw, a fairly even burn, & a dry wood smoke.  Binder/filler gives wood, faint coffee & even fainter BBQ; little spice.  Strength is medium plus.  The profile turns earthier & picks up leather when the wrapper ignites.  The coffee builds into the 2nd 1/3 & the BBQ goes away.  The profile remains pretty constant through the rest of the cigar.  Wood, leather, earth & coffee are the notes & the finish.  The body is medium plus.  Not a bad smoke.

Humidor time: 154 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 68, foot - 63
Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a medium+ profile with a spicy retro and notes of light wood, spice, and citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent through the first half or so with the body increasing a bit in the 2nd half. Pretty flavorful, overall, although it missed my wheelhouse by a bit what with the citrus note being a bit too up-front for my palate. Strength was about medium. (29/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, smoke volume on the low side of optimal, and an even burn to start. I quickly gave it a second shallow V-cut and this helped to bring smoke output to optimal shortly into the first third. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/2" leaving a small cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal from the first third on. It was a slow-burner on top of being a big stick, clocking in at nearly 2 1/2 hours from light to nub. (20/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their monthly selections awhile back. Pretty nice long smoke, although as mentioned, the flavors weren't completely my thing. This was the 2nd vitola I've had from this blend, the first being a robusto also from PCC, and my review of that one shows a similar experience with the flavors although it seems the citrus note was stronger in this one than in the robusto.  Decent smoke, in any case, but for this type of blend I can think of several other brands I'd rather smoke. Very firm core, medium brown wrapper, a couple small veins & a nice oil sheen.   PLA sweet wood; PLT deep earth; PLD moderate.  A fairly easy toast & light, a mod draw, an even burn & a faintly earthy-woody smoke.  Starting notes are earth, faint wood & a good dose of black pepper in mouth & nose.  Flavor strength is well over medium.  The 1st 1/3 flavors are a little rough but start to settle in the 2nd.  Leather notes join & the pepper eases in the mouth.  Past the 1/2 the wood & pepper pick up & the leather fades back.  The rest of the cigar is about the same with none of nuttiness of the original.  The body is medium plus. Doesn't really stack up.

Appearance and construction: A couple minor veins, a light sheen, box-pressed, and a moderately soft pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of charred wood, leather, coffee, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note and this was nothing unusual for a maduro blend but still very tasty and satisfying. Strength was about medium. (31/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling on my shirt at one inch leaving a small cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as part of their monthly "Farm Rolled" pack awhile back. Can't go wrong with anything from AJ and this was yet more proof of that. Good smoke! (31/35)
