Solid, some shallow tooth, multi-colored wrapper, no veins & uneven oils. PLA bits of grass, earth & wood; PLT fermenting wine; PLD moderate. An easy toast & light, a moderate draw, an even burn, & a sandy wood smoke. Openers are spicy cedar, earth, & a hint of herbal spice. There is a touch of mintiness & a faint citrus tang. Strength is medium plus. This is an interesting cigar. Earthy brown, woody tan & grassy green- the wrapper drives the profile. The entire smoke is a kaleidoscope of flavors based on what part of the wrapper is burning & the finish follows. The body is medium plus. Truly an experience. (93)

Humidor time: 225 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 71, foot - 62 Appearance and construction: A few minor veins, a light sheen, box-pressed, a fragile wrapper with a bit of wrapper damage, and a moderately soft pack with no soft spots... Gave it a double shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (7/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of charred wood, black pepper, leather, spice, and a hint of dark chocolate. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors mellowing a bit through the first third but otherwise staying consistent throughout. Very tasty, overall, with plenty of spice and rich, maduro-ish goodness to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (32/35) ![]() Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. The burn continued a bit wavy but self-correcting through the 2nd third and things were otherwise uneventful down to the nub. Draw and smoke output remained optimal throughout. (20/20) Overall impression: Another great "Farm Rolled" smoke from PCC. No idea what this one is with a band on and if I hadn't known it was a Dominican-made stick, I'd have guessed it came from Nicaragua. I'd imagine it at least has some leaves from that country in the blend as it had a much more Nicaraguan type of profile than anything from the DR. Great smoke, in any case, and I'd definitely smoke it again. (32/35) Burn time: 1:36 Rating: 91

A firm, light-skinned stick, no veins & decent oils. PLA sour hay & a touch of barn; PLT wheat flakes; PLD easy. An easy toast, light & draw, a dead even burn, & a hay & wheat smoke. Starters are hay, wheat, earth, & light toast with little spice in mouth & nose. There are no transitions but the flavors are smooth & not overbearing at any point. The flavor strength is medium. Passing the 1/2 it is apparent that the beginning will be the end. This cigar has the profile of a true Connecticut. The finish is as the profile- hay, wheat, earth & toast with little spice. The body is medium. A fine smoke for the medium minded. (90)

Humidor time: 224 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 62, foot - 64 Appearance and construction: A few minor veins, a light sheen, and a moderately soft pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single clip with the guillotine and PLD was open. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of charred wood, leather, spice, and a hint of something sweet. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent through the first third after which the sweet hint faded through the remainder. Pretty tasty, overall, although it missed my wheelhouse by a bit and didn't seem like anything all that special. Strength was about medium. (28/35) ![]() Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a cone. The burn continued a bit wavily through the 2nd third and then got lopsided going into the last third and needed a touch-up before reaching the nub. Draw and smoke output remained optimal through the first two thirds but dropped a bit in the last third while it was getting lopsided. It was a fast-burning smoke, clocking in at well under an hour from light to nub. (15/20) Overall impression: This one came from Small Batch as one of their COTM selections awhile back. Given the brand name on the band, expectations were raised and then duly let down given the stick's performance and it's kind of mediocre flavor profile. Not the first stick I've had from this brand that's done that. Suffice to say it's not one I'd go out of my way to smoke again. (27/35) Burn time: 0:54 Rating: 78

Humidor time: 223 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 71, foot - 61 Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a double shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately tight. (8/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of wood, spice, and a hint of citrus. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent until the last third when I also started getting a hint of something minty and this stuck around through the remainder. Pretty tasty, overall, but not quite in my wheelhouse for this type of blend. Strength was about medium. (30/35) ![]() Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, smoke volume on the low side of optimal, and an even burn to start. The burn was a bit wavy but self-correcting through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/2" leaving no cone behind. Following the ashing, smoke output was still slightly sub-optimal so I gave it a single deep V-cut on top of the initial cuts and while this had no immediate effect on smoke output it did gradually start improving and reached optimal part way through the 2nd third. The burn got lopsided in the 2nd third and a touch-up was needed. Things then continued mostly uneventfully through the remainder although smoke output did drop a bit in the last third before reaching the nub. (16/20) Overall impression: This one is a La Zona stick so I thought it might be Espinosa's Habano blend, but I don't thing it was after smoking it. I'm pretty familiar with that blend and it's one of my favorites of that type, but this one seemed to be a bit off from that one so it's probably something else. Decent smoke, but the flavors, as mentioned above, didn't quite do it for me and construction was a bit sub-par with the stick being a bit too tightly packed for its own good. Good enough to smoke again, though, although I wouldn't go out of my way. (29/35) Burn time: 1:42 Rating: 83

Construction is excellent with an attractive wrap. It came in cellophane which I'm a fan of. I gave it a v cut and didn't cut beyond the cap. Lighting wasn't an issue and it provided a consistent even burn. Lot with a 3-torch lighter. First draws were filled with a heavy cream and as it went into the first quarter toasted marshmallow took its place. Small retro-hale was pleasant. Ash came off about 1/4 of the way down when setting it in a rest. 1/3 of the way in mild peppercorn notes emerged and was pleasant on the tongue with marshmallow still in the background. Medium body emerged. Slightly uneven burn but no touch-up required. More layers of flavor emerging that are beyond my palate. Slightly woody and a hint of grass. A mild sweetness is emerging on exhale. Half way through a solid medium body emerges. Smoker notes and a more covered tongue. Touch up with the torch required as it began to burn at an angle. Creamy notes took a back seat and some hay came out. Retro hale became spicier and hotter. I actually just pushed too much through and stung my nose. Touch up required again after 1/2,but it was very mildly uneven and probably not necessary. Removing the band when the burn was an inch above showed that a sticker glue or more glue was used as it still required a bit of force. Came off clean and didn't affect the wrapper at all. The band is quite pretty and will be held onto for my collection. As it burns down from 1/2 to 1/4, slightly harsh flavors emerged but it's not overwhelming. This could be from me puffing too frequently,or it nearing the end of the cigar. The ash has held up well since it fell off in the beginning, requiring a heavy finger tap to drop it. An uneven ember emerged from the dropped ash with the touched up side being further out than the non touched up side. The flavor notes have held steady since 1/2 way through with a mild increase of wood. Final thoughts: Pretty darn good for 10 bucks. I'd smoke this again if in the mood for creamy/marshmallow flavors, but it wouldn't be a daily smoke. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Solid, near black, slightly mottled, pig-tailed flat cap, closed foot, one small vein & decent oils. PLA chocolate cake; PLT sour milk cocoa; PLD moderate. An easy toast & light, a moderate draw, an even burn, & a soft wood smoke. Opening notes are gentle wood, earth & a bare hint of herbal spice in mouth & nose. The earth takes on a background note of bitter coffee & chocolate. The strength is medium plus. At the 2nd 1/3 start the bitterness eases & by the 1/2 the chocolate is exerting itself more. Into the final 1/3 the coffee takes the lead with the earth, wood, & bits of spice & chocolate following in the profile & finish, The body is medium plus. A nice smoke. (91)

Humidor time: 221 days Humidimeter reading: Head - 71, foot - 64 Appearance and construction: A few minor veins, a light sheen, box-pressed, a red cloth foot-band, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (9/10) Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of wood, coffee, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note and this was decently flavorful but it missed my wheelhouse by a bit. Strength was about medium or a bit better. (27/35) ![]() Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, smoke volume on the low side of optimal, and an even burn to start. I considered giving it another V-cut but I held off in the hope that smoke output would improve on its own. The burn was a bit wavy but self-correcting through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/2" leaving no cone behind. The burn continued wavily but self-correcting through the 2nd third and I finally gave it a second shallow V-cut after the 2nd ashing when smoke output had not yet improved. The 2nd cut helped to improve smoke output slightly but it was still a bit below fully optimal. The burn continued a bit wavy but self-correcting through the remainder and down to the nub. Draw and smoke output remained on the low side of optimal throughout. (16/20) Overall impression: This one came from Privada CC as one of their "Brian's Box" selections awhile back. A reasonably good smoke but, as mentioned, it was slightly sub-par with both flavor and construction. I'd smoke it again just to see if a second sample might treat me better. Firmly packed, dark brown wrapper, no veins & decent oils. PLA sweet earth; PLT faint corky wood; PLD moderate. A fairly easy toast & light, a moderate draw, an even burn needing no work, & a sweet wood & leather smoke. Aged leather, oak tones & a small dose of black pepper in mouth & nose lead off. There is a toasted nut quality w/a bit of tang- roasted walnuts? The flavor strength is medium or a bit over. The profile remains pretty constant till the 1/2 when the wood becomes more prominent & a mix of woods. The flavors are nice through the end & the finish is wood, leather, nuts & a little spice. The body is upper medium. Another fine BLTC. (93) |
