Hello everyone,
One of my favorite drinks to pair with a good stogie is a God Father. I have not smoked a cigar with it, that it didn't go well with, but that's just me. Any way give it a shot and see what you think.

God Father-
2 to 2&1/2 parts decent single Malt Scotch
1/2 to 1 part Amaretto
1 splash water

MMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMM

Try it and tell me what you think

sounds great minus the Amaretto

I said the same thing when I was told to try it lol. It really is good though. Don't use so much amaretto it over powers it. Use just enough so you barely taste it and sweeten it up. It's usually about 1/2 to 1 part amaretto.

Very interesting . . . I don't see why this wouldn't be good.  A Rusty Nail uses Drambuie (a sweet liquor) and scotch.  So this one is worth a shot (or two!)

Hey! How come Habana is written on here with a Sharpie ?!?

A day without whiskey is like . . . just kidding, I have no idea!

Thank God for Drambuie...and I've had the 'Rusty Nail' often enough to decide I'd rather drink Drambuie straight up.  In order to really get the full benefit of the Rusty Nail is get a really good scotch and Drambuie then pour over filtered ice and just a light lemon twist.  I found that good ice makes for a better drink..cleaner and at best..Drambuie is better all by itself but know that for some it's too sweet.  For this reason alone I love Drambuie because it gives you enough sweetener to counteract any cigar that tends to want to put too much nicotine in your system.

A great drink minus the water and the fancy sweet stuff........ :lmao:

I like scotch and Ameretto, I'll have to try mixing them one day, I used to enjoy rusty nails as well, but its been quite a few years since Ive had one.

Worth a shot I suppose, never know until you try it.  Although I normally prefer my scotch with 2 ice cubes, that's it.   Been thinking about picking up some whiskey stones though.  Anyone use those?

I like both as well. I'll have to give it a try.

FNA

One should really save single malts for appreciation on their own.

Blended scotch is fine for this drink in which the flavor of the Scotch is masked by the Amaretto even at a 3::1 ratio.

"I have not smoked a cigar with it, that it didn't go well with"

Do you folks really find that cigars you like don't go well with drinks you like?  I sit down with an Irish whiskey rocks and whatever I smoke, i like both the drink and the smoke.  Same is true for beers, other cocktails, booze and liquors.  Likewise Port wine.

If you do sometimes or often think "Yuck, this cigar doesn't go with my _______." what is it about the smoke or drink that is off-putting?  Does it ruin an otherwise good smoke or drink?

Jackal

I will give this a try tonight.

I'll do what I will and I'll drink what I please
I'll smoke what I like 'till I cough and I wheeze
I'll drink and I'll whore and every pleasure realize
For this time tomorrow I may die

I guess your right FNA, however some cigars and drinks complement each other better that others... Just like food. I am not going to eat mash potatoes and gravy with sushi and I love both foods.
I have found that any cigar that has a mild sweetness and especially a mild fruitiness to it goes outstanding with the god father. But that's just my taste... That's why I posted it for other people to try and see what they think.

I think it's interesting to see what others have found as far as pairing cigars with libations.  Even though I have my choices it still gives me ideas on other things that look like a good idea.  We get used to things over a lifetime and sometimes miss out on something because we limit ourselves to things we already are used to.  Discovery of new things is something that I am finally starting to do and it's working out pretty good.

sounds like an interesting combination though i prefer single malt straight up on the rocks and at least twelve years old...i am a proponent of the good old bourbon manhattan with a good cigar especially with a top shelf whiskey and vermouth
why isnt phonetic spelled like it sounds?

This is a very nice drink but I recommend a ratio of about 4:1 or 5:1. And don't waste your single malt. Use a decent blend like Dewar's.

I bought my brother a bottle of 18 year old Single Malt Yamazaki for his 60th birthday. It was a smooth whiskey with a hint of vanilla and an earthy nose to it. Unfortunately, you can't call it Scotch since the water is from Japan but, it sure is good stuff. It went well with a couple Cuban Cohibas sitting on the deck looking out over  Lake Norman in North Carolina. I am about to return to the lake house(in two weeks) for a bit of a reunion and only hope his brother-in-law has stocked the humi with some more good Cubans before he returned back to England.
