I have recently found a great love of Armagnac. In my opinion it is nicer than Cognac although Cognac is still great. Either brandy is a good accompaniment to a nice cigar. Any thoughts?

I'm a huge fan of all three.

However, up here on the Maine coast, while a good cognac is easy to find, Armagnacs are rare and Calvados is almost non-existent. :(

I'm not much of a drinker but I sure enjoyed a German brandy whilst I was stationed in the territory. It was Asbach Uralt and we could get it at the Class VI store for about $5 a bottle. Wasn't very smooth but it was sure tasty on a cold night. I think it might go well with a good Nicaraguan stick.

Asbacj Uralt is available most anywhere now, even here locally!  I don't drink much, but I do keep a bottle of Asbach on hand and enjoy a snifter every now and then.  Great stuff and IIRC around $20.

Have never tried it, but you've peaked my curiosity.  Is it plentiful in the U.S.?

Never had either. Have been thinking about trying some scotch though

A bottle of Asbach Uralt lasts me a long time, but AFAIK it's readily available at most half-decent liquor stores.

BTW, if you like outdoor winter activities, bring a flask of Asbach Uralt along for the ski-lifts, snowmobiling, ice fishing, etc.

You can not beat a good Cognac

I always have a bottle of Asbach Uralt around. There was always a bottle in the house growing up for special occasions. I still have a shorty from time, but mostly with relatives.

I have had cognac. Have never even heard of the other two.  Are they like rum?  I like rum.

I really enjoy a good Cognac when I can afford it! Armagnac and Calvados are also nice but harder to find around here... On a side note, a friend of mine was convinced that Armagnac had to be made in Armenia. It made me chuckle to hear him explain it.
