I can't believe there are people in GA who actually voted for this guy because most of the people I know who live in the state seem fairly rational. Here's another of Representative Johnson's incredible episodes...a speech in support of keeping the Federal Helium Reserve alive. And the Federal Helium Reserve is another joke all in its own self...

I guess maybe we could use that helium to fill balloons attached to Guam so it doesn't tip over.

Naw, they've gone to hot air balloons powered by Congress. Trouble is that Congress produces so much hot air they can't get the balloons to land!

Okay, this is so outrageously stupid that I even went to snopes.com but couldn't find it.  So I googled it.  This is real.  This is our money.  This is pathetic.

Yup...  Been going on for ever. Just across the way from me.  I just wish that some enterprise would be able to purchase that reserve and let the market dictate where things go from there.  I've seen helium shortages in the past few years because only a portion of the reserve is sold with private enterprise making up the remainder of available supply, and that volume hasn't mathed demand, since Helium is used in a lot of other applications beyond balloon filling.  I've read that hospitals have had difficulty obtaining it as it is used in MRI machines.

The laws of supply and demand are fundamentally straight forward. The helium industry makes good money when it is in short supply. If you look close enough, I would wager his back pocket gets a little heavier every time he talks about it.
