Why do this when they just got a huge cost savings in oil?

Last week I shipped out a pass and had an interesting discussion with the mail clerk.  She said that the 6-day parcel posts will take weeks because it goes from truck to truck cross country but every trucks waits at the next destination until it's full.  It's supposedly their way of 'saving gas money'.  When I mentioned that's not a problem anymore I got the "We lost $XX billions dollars over the last year" I just rolled my eyes.  My best guess on the price increases is to recoup all that "lost money".
