I personally think we should have one or two causes that we support. One of those is cigars for the troops and another is the Toys for Tots. So, beyond that...I would suggest no additional fundraising.

I agree fully that these go fund me things are outta hand. I seen one for someone who couldn't afford food for there cats and dogs, now i know pets are family but if you cant afford food for your pets you probably should have pets.

The exception, in my mind would be for one of our own. A member who falls on hard times like heath issues or other extreme problems.

Never been asked to fund a gofundme or been to the site.

I happily contribute to causes that I agree with throughout the year.

There are shysters all around us, and yes, some of these go-fund things are sketchy. Not knowing who is doing the fundraising, I'm pretty skeptical to begin with. Now, the drunk driver who got hurt, and needs help?...I can see the point of view that says, hey, you did this to yourself, so you must suffer. Makes sense, do the crime, do the time. But, consider the fallout...who else does this affect? Who are you really helping? The wife who is struggling to pay the bills because her husband made a poor decision? The kids, who could really use new clothes, let alone food, because dad was a selfish prick? Maybe this guy was taking care of elderly parents, who couldn't take care of themselves without his help...which he failed to think about before making a decision he will regret for a long time...and now they suffer because of his actions...Point being...one action can affect many people, and all at once...the simplest of actions can help reduce the damage...give...love...simple!

FYI, my buddy on the bike is single and could afford to sit in the bar daily when he couldn't get back to work.
Yeah I guess I should have forked up some of my cash so he didn't run out of beer money.

I see that we have a Blind Geeks Pass going on right now.  Maybe we should have a fundraiser to help them.  It is sad that there are so many sight impaired members on the site.  :shades:

FYI...then don't give him money. There are plenty of examples of who to help and who not to. I'd be hard pressed to help him, given the facts. But, follow your conscience, and follow your heart...

This is an age where people can easily set up stories to defraud society and the amount of scammers who devote their days to extract money from people is at an all time high.  Now having said that there are legit causes for helping others and it's in our interests to vet these kinds of causes with verified evidence and then....if we want to donate it becomes our choice according to our own budgets to give.  What I don't like is those people who know how to put the "arm" on others to guilt them into giving to causes or fundraisers.  If I gave to every fundraiser that I've been asked to donate I'd be flat broke and would have to go online and start a GoFundMe account.  This is another ridiculous thing that has started with people who make up these stories to get money...shameful.
