Ken @ Xikar emailed me today. The hygrometer I sent in tested 3 % low using the Boveda pack calibration kit actually read 75% RH in their lab that was @ 75.8%. He sent me a pic of my hygrometer during the test, and I will post the pic later, I am on my iPhone.  With that in mind, my Hygroset and my Calibre IV are reading 2 - 3 % low using the Boveda Calibration kit. He also sent a link to a video about Xikar hygrometers and properly salt testing:

Long and short of it is: salt test/ Boveda will get you close but not completely accurate depending on the conditions that you calibrate at.

So the moral of the whole story is, if you are close, be happy and walk away. Life is too short to worry about 1 or 2 % RH

Thanks for the update Don. Good to know I shouldn't obsess about it anyway.

I enjoyed reading through this thread. It got me to wondering, it seems like a lot of hygrometers with calibration are going the way of the dodo bird. Anyone know why? I can't imagine it costs any significant amount more to manufacture a calibration knob, and it just seems like a complete oversight to think it would never need to be calibrated.
