Public API? Download database?

I tried reaching out to the CigarGeeks team via their "Contact Us" page, but I haven't heard anything. Taking a chance here...

I've always wanted to experiment with making a cigar "Online Humidor" inventory tool, but the big blocker is always the data. Is there any way to download the database? Alternatively, is there any way to access a REST API (or something similar) to query the database?

I don't think there is any way to do API integration with the CigarGeeks DB.  From what I remember, the DB and it's data is proprietary and owned by the website, and is not licensed for free use.  The admins can speak to the issue more than I can though.

Yeah, I figured as much. In the spirit of what they claim on their "Who we are?" page (http://www.cigargeeks.com/WhoAreWe/), I was hoping I was wrong.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Cigar Geeks database and it's data is proprietary and owned by this website.  We have an online humidor inventory tool for you to use for free, as well as some other nice features such as moving a cigar to the "already smoked" category, or randomly selecting a cigar for you to smoke from your inventory, and even a "wishlist humidor" where you can keep track of cigars that you don't own yet but would like to try.

But welcome to our community.  Why don't you head over to the Newbie introduction area and post something about yourself?

I may be wrong!  I would say to speak to SenorPablo, and make sure you have written permission before using any CG data in any capacity.  Just like ODbL licensing and stuff, it has to be done right, with certain obligations on the licensing of your own product.

I just know that when they had the mobile app going, it kind of changes the nature of what the database is, and the value it has as part of the community.  Between the hosting costs and monthly gift card giveaways, the owners certainly don't take a profit.
