Civion

 Hello from the UK !

I live in Lincolnshire (near the Humber Bridge if you want to google map where this is)

Having given up cigarettes about 6/7 years ago I want something to treat my self to every weekend, so this will be a 1 or 2 cigars a week hobby for me.

I didn't realise how obscene the prices are though, so I think its best all round that the wife doesn't know, I am caring like that, thinking of her blood pressure.....

Got myself a very small selection of cigars to start with and another 14 on the wish list which will be arriving this week, I think having around 20 in the tuperdore at any one time is more than enough to work through, so when I get down to 10 I will get another 10 or so. That should be enough to keep things ticking along

I am starting off with mild cigars and will gradually increase as I become accustomed.

The hardest part of starting out is knowing what to purchase, I am reading/watching as many reviews on mild cigars as I can. Unfortunately a lot of the higher rated cigars are

 1. not available in the UK
 2. medium/full strength

so I am left with picking from a variety of cigar producers and hoping the few reviews I have seen are accurate. Eventually I am hoping to get a 'daily' cigar that I can reach for if I want one during a weekday and continue to try as many different premium ones at the weekends, but that's going to be a fair bit in the future.

If anyone has any tips then please let me know, one thing I have seen quite often is that cigars should be smoked sitting down and not while walking, that's a shame as I do like to have a walk each evening after work, and it was nice to have a cigarette whilst I did so.

Anyways, I will continue to browse the site and will put up some reviews once I get a feel for this new hobby

 Cheers !

Welcome from LA!

Finding reviews you can trust can be hard.  I generally trust the reviews at halfwheel, but of course any review is subject to that person's preferences and particular palate, etc.  But halfwheel will tell you if they bought the cigars they reviewed and if that manufacturer is an advertiser on their site, so they try to be transparent on things like that.  Reading their reviews has helped me find cigars I really like that I wouldn't have otherwise considered.

You'll find plenty of review info around here, but again, it depends on who is reviewing it and if their wheelhouse is anywhere close to yours.

Enjoy the hobby, and let us know when you expand into that 2nd and 3rd tupperdor!  It happens... :lmao:

Nice intro Civion. Welcome to CG. Don't listen to the guy's who said you should sit while smoking a cigar. Taking a stroll while burning a nice cigar is perfectly acceptable. Unless you get dizzy or lightheaded while smoking, then definitely sit while enjoying a cigar.
I am not concerned about what you think as I can tell you don't do it often.

I used to be a people person, but then people ruined that for me.

Welcome!  Its fine to walk with a cigar, but you just won't enjoy it as much because you will not be paying it the same attention that you would if you were sitting and relaxing. When we had a dog, I always had a humidor full of "dog-walker" cigars - cheap cigars that didn't have much complexity but satisfied the urge to enjoy a cigar. Out dog know which humidor that was, and would jump up and down when he saw me reach for it because he know it meant that we he was going for a long walk!

Welcome from the states! I feel your pain for those outside the us.  We get a ton of great cigars and are spoiled for choice.
