I just lit one up now. Burns and draws well.
I haven't been to the devil site (cigarbid) in years and made a small purchase there a few weeks ago. Okay fine, it wasn't small, but with tax and delivery each stick, all 205 of them, cost $2.38. There is not a single stick in the bunch that is not worth $2.38, in fact, most of them would cost 2-10 times more at any other sight any day of the week. This is not a plug for cbid, just a happy observation.
Needed a re-light...the burn is very straight, the taste starts out milder and woodsy and it's medium bodied so far.
So I un-expectedly scooped up 5 x 10pk of of the Cohiba Red Dot Churchill @$2.50 a stick. This same stick goes at CI for $495 per box of 25 or $19.80 each. This is a huge difference no doubt. One place is way overpriced for what you get, and the other, imo, underpriced a little. My question to my fellow herfers is: what is the skinny on this brand? Also, most other blends in the cohiba line can also be had in the $3 range with careful bidding.
Im still puffing on a medium bodied stick here and there is not much change to the taste profile so far, perhaps a little generic even, but I'm not disliking it.
I smoke three times a day everyday and my budget is limited to smoking $2-$4 cigars. I find that with frugal shopping, almost all sales or discounts only, there is plenty of cigars out there in that range that are pretty good: Ava Maria, Padilla, 5 Vegas, Diesel, Oliva, CAO, etc etc. Anyone else out there smoke "budget" type cigars?
So I cut this Churchill in half and I'm finishing it up. It's just reaching a medium plus body and remains smooth, still burns even, and notes of leather and earth wrap it up.
This one hour session cost me $1.25 and left me happy and satisfied. Was I wowed, not really, but after 25 years of puffing I rarely get wowed with cigars anymore, even with the $5-$20 sticks, which I do indulge in from time to time.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!
