Just an update on my Coffee Roasting.

Have been roasting coffee and drinking it for about a month now. I have made 4 different coffees in many small roasting batches.

Columbian
Sumatra
Paupa new guinnea
Mexican

I am hooked !  it's like the difference between instant coffee and real ground coffee !

I Shared the "home roasted" coffee beans with  8 people so far.
4 of them said it was the smoothest coffee (read that no bitterness) they ever had.
2 people commented the ground coffee didn't smell like folgers or maxwell house at all.... they thought it smelled earthy, and too pungent. But they liked the flavor of the coffee.
2 people have asked me to sell them some of my home roasted coffee.

No one so far has said the home roasted coffee tastes bad, or "no different" from a store bought coffee.

I think I'm on to something here.

Oh, let me tell you about the pairing of a nice cigar..... and a cup of home roasted coffee. It's the BEST !!!

Awesome to hear your having success with your coffee journey, and I know what you mean about having a cigar with a good cup of coffee!

Yes, so far I have to say I like the Mexican coffee roasted to a city roast +  level. The beans are dark, oily and very aromatic. I made some on Saturday and even I was impressed with the flavors.

I have some more coffees on order from sweet marias so my favorite may change. I really am enjoying the variety of flavors, and the aroma !! fresh roasted coffee has a smell like nothing else !

The more I read this, the more I want to try this. If I see air popper somewhere I'm grabbing that thing.

Hey question for you Ken,

After using the air popper for the coffee beans do you thing that it affected the machine in a strong enough way that it would be making coffee flavored popcorn if I went back to using it on kernels?   hmm coffee flavored popcorn...

nah I'd piss people off if that happened lol.

That coffee sounds so awesome.  I don't smoke a cigar everyday, but I have about 3 cups of coffee everyday.  Have you considered sending a 'java bomb'?  :?:  :dancing:

Coffee flavored popcorn, now that's an idea !  I've heard of popcorn flavored icecream...... I thought that was bizarre.

I told the family that I would not make popcorn in the Hot air popper after I started roasting beans in it. My kids rejoiced and were happy !!!!
