IMO, a noob should be someone that hasn't had the opportunity to sample a lot of cigars.  If you try to put a time restriction (been smoking 6 months or less or been smoking more than a year), then it creates problems.

I think that you know if you are a newb or not.

Even if you have been smoking 30 years but have only been smoking Muniemakers and Dutch Masters and are now trying handmades you are still a newb.

If you have been only going at it for about 6 months but have been doing a cigar a day, trying different brands and building up a respectable collection. then probably not.

It is up to the individual whether they feel that they are still newbs or have moved to a higher level.

Compared to a lot of you guys, I'll probably feel like a newb for a long time to come. Then there is the unattainable, like Kyle. I'm still looking for the jealous / drool emoticon.

I think that a good newbie test is when you look at something like the CI kitchen sink sampler.  If you think that would be great to try, you are still a newb.  When you look at it and say, it's got some ok stuff in there but also a lot of crap that I won't smoke, then you have left the newb category.

Thats a great litmus test example, Jason.  Although its hard to disparage any sampler that has a El Mejor Emerald Robusto in it!          :barf:

And I thought it was cool... :shamebag:

A newb is somebody that doesnt stick around long enough for a FOG to learn your real name from your screen name!

Sometimes I dont take the time to learn your name unless you stick around and do a split or get in on a pass and dont fukk it up!

A standup guy in a pass goes a long way!

Unless your name is Twinky, Pauliane, Markinde or Texlewee!

Texlewee really burns my ass!!!!!!!!!

I would like to be someone's newb.  If I still qualify.  Only been smoking about 3 months.  Less than 75 total cigars probably with a variety of  only about 35-40 different kinds.  These are certainly estimates but not too far off.

Send me a list of some brands you have yet to try and we can work something out.

Actually they weren't that bad! One of the best out of the bunch IMO, was Gurkha's Park Avenue 44, and the Rocky Patels were nice too.

The thing is I really like "samplers" because I find that having cigars that I never tried before so cool. But also just having a bunch of different cigars and seeing all the different bands is such a cool thing for me. So for me I rather have 10 5-packs of some good cigars than have 2 boxes of 2 favorite cigars, because even if there good, there's a loss of excitement that comes from having a variety.

My 2¢

P.S. I figured out how to type ¢!
You type 0162 while holding down alt on the number pad!

Moderators or other dudes with some pull...would you like me to maintain an actual thread with a list of FOG's who have agreed to take on newbs...the order that newbs shall contact them in and the completion of each trade? it seems like there is a bit of interest here and it's a good resource for people I believe :)

I think it's really quite difficult sometimes to define "n00b" (or newb).

You know, I've been smoking cigars since some of you were a glint in your old man's eye -- but even now, I'll pick up a cigar (from my stash, from a retailer, from a friend, etc.) that I haven't smoked in a long time but I remember that I hated it before, or loved it before ... and this time the cigar changed my mind completely.

Every time that happens to me, I feel like a newb again.  That Macanudo that you love today will bore you to death as taseless tomorrow.  That Camacho that is overwhelmingly OMG strong is your go-to smoke tomorrow.

It changes.  But most of us are still N00bs, just in a different way.

That's actually a good idea, but I'm not a moderator and I don't have any pull around here.... :-(

You could just start a thread and keep track that way, right?  Like post up who is looking for a FOG sponsor, and then once the sponsor steps up, open the thread to another noob.  Kind of like how we do the Wishlist PIF.

Of course :D It would probably look something like this:
FOG's
1:FOGMASTER1 (pending trade with Newb-a-sauraus Rex)
2)SirFOGgenheimer (Now Up)
3)BeenFOGed alot
4)FOGgin in the USA
5)FOGs, a Mans Best Friend.

A newb would then see this and say...ok I need to PM SirFOGgenheimer, in which case they would post it in the thread. The list would be updated to show that both FOGMASTER1 and SirFOGgenheimer are pending trades and then BeenFOGed alot will be up.
