I don't much care for most heavy brown beers or ales.

More and more local brews are sprouting up around here -- it's always fun to sample them

Parkbrau and the seasonal Parkbrau Perminator (Germany) my all time fav but very hard to find around here.

Dogfish Head (especially their IPA draughts) -- the Squall is superb but also hard to find  http://www.dogfish.com/brews-spirits/the-brews/occassional-rarities/squall-ipa.htm

Samuel Adams brews are all very good (Latitude IPA is a favorite).

Lately I've been drinking mostly Harpoon Irish Ale (seasonal) which will be gone for another year soon ... :-)

The Guinness Foreign Extra Stout is amazing with a good maduro.  Drank one recently while smoking a Rocky Patel Edge Sumatra.  What a great combination!  Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout and Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout are also amazing with cigars of this sort.  Really, any good stout will work, especially the ones with the high ABVs.

There's amazing beer from all over the world, and much of it is surprisingly reasonably priced and readily available.  Try as much of it as you possibly can.  :-)

You hit it on the head w/ the guiness foreign extra stout... Love that stuff.... Nate
i've never seen the golden shower, so if its a limited release and there's some more, maybe you can grab me a 4/6pak and i'll meet you somewhere to give you the money.... (maybe sat. night poker!) :shy:

I love Chocolate Milk Stout by Terrapin brewery (i've bought 2 cases of it since it became available) Recently bought a case of Abita's Summer (Strawberry) lager.. great crisp fruity beer that can actually be used to introduce a woman who "doesn't drink beer" to drinking beer..... Bought a 4pak of Gonzo Imperial Porter,
couple bottles of KBS, and a 4pak of Weyerbacher Heresy (Imperial Oak Aged Stout) (Their answer to KBS and a great one at half the price ($9.99/4pak vs 20-25 for KBS), a couple bottles of Porterhouse stout, and a couple of bombers by Lost Abbey (New to GA but the guy at the liquor store claims they're amazing brews!)

I've never seen the Dogfish Golden Shower - just saw it online.  If I get a chance, I'll look at the local Total Wine.

I've found that you can't go wrong with  Dogfish Head; even if they do give you a golden shower.

You know for a second nate i thought you were pulling my chain brotha!
In fact stopped in tower last night asked the beer rep for it and he couldn't
even find it in the system! Turns out that its out of production, but thanks to
you piquing my curiousity i found my favorite beer on the planet last night!

Terrapin Monk's Revenge, It's a belgian style imperial IPA! You talk about
good and smooth, and RICH... this beer is the s**t! I would honestly take it
over KBS anyday... I also found out that weyerbacher makes a beer called
insanity... i personally think its their true answer to KBS, but we'll see one of
these days i'll be able to afford it! *lol*

Blue Moon the best domestic?  You mean, including all of the domestic micros?  If so, you'll have to excuse me while I  :lmao:

If you want a more authentic-tasting witbier that's brewed domestically, try Witte from Brewery Ommegang.  They're a little brewery in Cooperstown, New York and their stuff is consistently incredible.  Try anything you can find from Ommegang.

EDIT: I felt it was dickish to dis a man's brew of choice without recommending an alternative that he might enjoy more, so I came back and inserted the Ommegang recommendation.

I haven't had enough micro brew domestics to really include them. But IMHO yes best :dancing:

Ah, my edit was too late!  Seriously, try the Witte from Brewery Ommegang and see what you think.  I think you'll love it if you already dig Blue Moon.   :-)

I had a Blue Moon one night and it was rank! :barf: You know the old keystone commercials with the guy that has the bitter beer face, that was me. It was awful. I don't remember which Blue Moon it was but it was bad. Not sure if that's the way it is or if it was just a bad beer. I had about for sips and left it. The waitress offered another and I told her no! Makes me not want to try another Blue Moon.

Although I wouldn't say it is the best domestic, you are right - Blue Moon with orange is very good.

Yeah, that was a little dickish, but your recommendation of Ommegang is spot on.  The brewery is only about an hour west of here, and a cool place to visit. Its only about 15 years old, and they built it to mimic a real Belgian brewery.  They have entertainment events, but sometimes these can be a bit too political for me, like the upcoming "Levon Helm Band with Special Guest Arlo Guthrie - Concert to Fight Fracking".

Here is the link to the brewery's site:

Brlesq:

I'd love to visit the Ommegang brewery at some point.  I just love how authentic their beer tastes.  It's the closest thing you can get to authentic Belgian brew manufactured in the United States.  Have you had their Three Philosophers?  I think that one is my absolute favorite.  Their Chocolate Indulgence is a hell of a stout, too.  And their dubbel is great too, a totally worthy alternative to Westmalle and Chimay (I usually reserve those two for drinking around the holidays).

Another good dubbel, if you like those, is the Brother David's Belgian-style Double Ale from Anderson Valley Brewing Company.  Very solid and reasonably priced.

EDIT: Punctuation/formatting errors.  Fixed 'em.

I'm gonna have to agree w/ you Bryan, I'm just not a Blue Moon fan or a fan of any of the wheat based beers.  They often have a sour character that I just don' t like.

As I understand it most people do, but personally I don't like much of anything sour.  I tend to prefer bitters which is what makes me like the IPA and ESB.

Most people can't handle real Lambic.  It is too sour for them.  I love it though.   We have a microbrewery that makes it a few miles away from where I live.

My buddy is a brewer in Seattle and is really into sour beers (he's currently making a sour Cherry Stout in port barrels). He mentioned that some of his favorite sour beers are from Cantillon. It's pricey stuff, but apparently delicious! I can;t wait to get my self some bottles of this stuff. You guys should give it a try.

EDIT: Forgot to mention. The Consecration Ale form Russian River Brewery is pretty damn tasty as well!

The stores in my area just recently started carrying Ommegang.  I'll have to check it out.

And :word: for the comments on Dog Fish Head.  Great beers.  One of the things I look forward to most in the fall is when their Punkin' Ale comes out.  For summer beers, Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse is my favorite. I probably need to widen my summer-time choices. I have a buddy who loves Lindeman's Raspberry Framboise, but it's a bit too sweet for me.
